Zi Bei (Purple Shell) has a sweet taste and is non-toxic. There is a stone in its head, shaped like a chess piece. It primarily treats Shi Lin (lithuria/urinary calculi). It can be ground and taken orally, or burned into ash powder for consumption. When cooked with vegetables as a soup, it opens the appetite and benefits Qi. Dried and eaten, it is called Xiang (sound: xiang). Roasted and eaten, it treats the digestion of melons into water, and also treats sudden abdominal distension, food stagnation, and acute diarrhea-dysentery. When first caught from water, it can make sounds; at night, it emits light. It is also said that wild ducks have stones in their heads, believed to be transformed from this fish. It is produced in the East Sea. (Currently attached)
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to Chen Shiliang: Shi Shou Yu (Stone-head Fish) is neutral in nature. Ri Hua Zi states: Take the occipital bone from the brain, burn it into powder, and take with water to treat Lin syndrome. Dietary therapy: Made into dried Xiang, it resolves retained food, treats Zhong E (sudden evil invasion), and is not suitable for fresh consumption.
Zi Bei has a sweet taste, is warm, and non-toxic. Consuming it makes one fat, strong, healthy, and radiant. This is a small fish in the Ru Xue (Milk Cave), which often feeds on milk-like water, thus benefiting humans. Long-term consumption strengthens the body more than milk, resembling Ying Ji (British chicken), with functions similar to milk. (Currently attached)
Chen Cangqi's "Wu Du Fu" states: Jia Yu (auspicious fish) comes from Bing Xue. Li Shan's annotation states: Bing day emerges from the cave. Now it is not so; Bing refers to the sun-facing cave. All are boiled cliff stones.
Zi Bei has a sweet taste, is neutral, and non-toxic. It opens the appetite and promotes the free flow of the Five Zang organs. Long-term consumption makes one fat and strong. Zi Bei (Purple Shell)
Brightens the eyes and eliminates heat toxins.
Tang Ben Zhu states: Its shape resembles a shell, round, two to three inches in diameter. Produced in the East and South Seas, with purple spots and white bones. (Tang Ben previously attached) Minister Yuxi et al.'s Tu Jing states: Zi Bei, the "Ben Jing" does not record its origin province. Su Gong's annotation states: Produced in the East and South Seas; currently abundant in the South Sea, it is also known as Ya Luo (polished snail). Its shape resembles a shell but is round, two to three inches in diameter. The Danzhen Yi-Li people collect it as currency; northerners only use it for polishing objects. Respectfully noting Guo Pu's annotation of "Er Ya": Yu (pronunciation: zhi qi qie), yellow-white pattern. Meaning yellow as base, white as pattern dots. Yu Quan, white-yellow pattern. Meaning white as base, yellow as pattern dots. Current Zi Bei uses purple as base and black as pattern dots. There are extremely many types of shells; ancients considered them treasures, and this Zi Bei was especially valued by the world. During Emperor Wen of Han's time, the King of Nanyue presented five hundred Zi Bei. Later generations devalued it due to abundance, and it is rarely used in medicine. Also, the purple variety of Che Ao (cockle), fishermen also call it Zi Bei. Che Ao is frequently used in recent formulas treating carbuncles and ulcers; its shell is burned to ash and applied to sores. Both South and North Seas have it, collected anytime. People also eat its meat, stating it tastes salty, is neutral, and non-toxic. It resembles Clam, but the meat is less tender. It can also resolve alcohol toxicity. Those from the north have coarse shells, unsuitable for use.
Yan Yi states: Zi Bei, two to three inches in diameter, deep purple with black spots on the back. The "Ben Jing" states it should be calcined to retain its properties and used in eye drops.
