[Perch]
Nature: Neutral. Benefits the five zang organs, strengthens sinews and bones, harmonizes the stomach and intestines, and treats edema (water qi). Consuming it in moderation is beneficial to humans; making it into sashimi (kuai) is particularly good. When dried, it is very fragrant and delicious. Although it has slight toxicity, it does not cause disease to manifest. Another view states: excessive consumption may induce accumulations (pi) and sores/swellings; it should not be eaten with milk or cheese.
*Shi Liao Ben Cao* (Food Therapy Materia Medica) records: Nature neutral. Mainly treats calming the fetus and tonifying the middle jiao. Making it into sashimi is especially excellent.
*Yan Yi* (Expanded Meaning) says: Perch benefits the liver and kidneys, tonifies the five zang organs, and harmonizes the stomach and intestines; it is suitable for consumption. It rarely causes disease manifestation, which is indeed the case as stated by Zhang Ding.
[Softshell Turtle / Big Softshell Turtle - Yuan]
Nature: Neutral, slightly toxic. Treats hemorrhoids, kills parasites, and excessive consumption induces coughing and sores/scabies. The shell can be used in incense to stimulate various aromas. The tail, when burned to charcoal, treats intestinal wind with bloody stool, metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, and postpartum dysentery. The fat, when burned, attracts mice. [The above two types are newly supplemented. See Meng Shen and Ri Hua Zi.]
Chen Cangqi says: Pungent flavor, non-toxic. Mainly treats five types of "wild pheasant diseases" (likely referring to specific parasitic or skin conditions), kills parasites, induces coughing, the shell emits various aromas, tail ash stops postpartum dysentery, and the paste/burned fat attracts mice.
(Note: The text fragment "becomes black ash" appears disjointed here, likely a transcription error or continuation from previous context regarding processing.)
[Marine Medicine / Conch-like description]
According to *Yi Zhi* (Record of Strange Things): Grows in the South Sea. Has male and female distinctions, greenish-blue color, shape similar to almond kernels. To verify authenticity, first hold it in the mouth to warm it, then place it in vinegar. The male and female will chase each other and unite shortly after, subsequently laying eggs like millet grains; this indicates authenticity. Mainly treats difficult labor in women; holding it assists delivery.
[Another Marine Medicine / Sandworm-like description]
According to *Nan Zhou Ji* (Records of Southern Provinces): Grows among rocks in the South Sea mountains. Its form resembles a silkworm, size like a thumb, sandy texture very white, resembling jade powder. Salty taste, greatly warm, non-toxic. Mainly treats deficiency-wasting with cold qi and various wind syndromes causing limb immobility. Long-term consumption makes one's complexion lustrous, tonifies deficiency and emaciation, lightens the body, prolongs life, and prevents aging. Those who find it difficult to distinguish authentic ones are often deceived by those who use water to knead kudzu root starch and burnt lime, using comb teeth to create imprints; these are fake. Even if consumed, they provide no benefit but rather harm the person; use with caution.
Remaining texts from Chen Cangqi on twenty-one types.

Tao Hongjing says: Yuan meat has tonifying properties. This old yuan can transform into a demon/spirit. According to analysis: Yuan carapace has the same functions as softshell turtle carapace. After roasting and soaking in wine, it mainly treats scrofula (luoli), kills parasites, and expels wind from malignant sores and stubborn scabies/itching. The meat mainly treats dampness, various evil qi and gu poison, and eliminates the toxicity of hundred medicines. Zhang Ding says: The paste applied to iron...
Wood and stone mechanisms. Extremely difficult to kill; even after removing all flesh, the head still bites objects, and it can be used to trap hawks.
*Shi Liao Ben Cao* says: Slightly warm nature. Mainly treats evil qi of the five zang organs, kills hundred insect gu poisons, eliminates toxicity of hundred medicines, and reconnects human sinews. Additionally, applying the paste to iron and rubbing it makes the surface bright.
