The practice of medicine is a profession that holds the power over life and death, and it is by no means an easy task. As long as one harbors a compassionate heart to save others, extensively studies various medical texts, carefully observes patients during clinical practice, and prioritizes human life above all else, even if one has not attained the scholarly level of sages, as long as one can clearly distinguish and explain deficiency and excess, cold and heat, exterior and interior, and yin and yang, and prescribe medications appropriately, one will naturally avoid harming patients. However, in obstetrics, one must be especially cautious and strictly adhere to established principles. A slight error may result in the loss of the fetus and even injury to the mother, which would inevitably lead to resentment? Regarding the postpartum period, the body is generally characterized by a deficiency of qi and blood. Mr. Danxi stated: "Even if other symptoms are present, they should be treated as secondary." This is indeed an eternal maxim; one should follow the prescriptions formulated by former sages and select them appropriately, absolutely avoiding fabrication that could mislead people. Formulas such as Wuyou San (Worry-Free Powder), Foshou San (Buddha's Hand Powder), and Shenghua Tang (Life-Generating Decoction) have stood the test of time for millennia and should not be treated with negligence. I often observe that contemporary physicians treat postpartum conditions entirely contrary to proper methods, blindly fabricating novel prescriptions under the name of "Shenghua," yet lacking the true intent of "generating life." If applied to women with robust constitutions, recovery might occur by chance; but for those with frail constitutions, disaster will strike immediately. Regarding postpartum sweating, one must guard against the escape of primordial yang; regarding diarrhea, one must guard against the sinking of middle qi; regarding panting and urgency, one must guard against the upward reversal of lochia. These are all extreme taboos in the postpartum state. Postpartum fever, however, is a common occurrence. It arises because the lower yuan is empty, leading to internal heat due to yin deficiency. Simply using Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Tongbian (Child's Urine) will resolve the fever. Occasionally, there are cases of stagnant blood, wind invasion, food stagnation, or milk stasis; each must be diagnosed according to its cause and treated accordingly. For wind invasion, use Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) and Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong); adding Hei Jingjie (Black Schizonepeta) to the blood-nourishing formula is sufficient. During childbirth, the body is weak, joints are open, and couli (pores/interstices) are insecure, making it easy for pathogens to enter and exit. If one forcibly induces sweating to release the exterior, primordial yang will escape, resulting in certain death. For food stagnation, simply add Guya (Sprouted Grain) and Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel) to spleen-regulating herbs. Since spleen deficiency leads to impaired transformation and transportation, warming yang herbs should be used to assist the spleen and warm the stomach, thereby restoring function. One must understand that when pathogenic factors exist postpartum, treatment should always combine tonification with elimination; there is no rationale for eliminating without tonifying. Some untrained novices without proper transmission boldly use formulas containing Chaihu (Bupleurum), Huangqin (Scutellaria), Qianghuo (Notopterygium), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia), Shanzha (Hawthorn), and Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) to treat Shanghan (Cold Damage diseases), forgetting the postpartum condition. This causes mild cases to become severe and severe cases to result in death, causing significant harm, which is truly terrifying. Moreover, Zhongfeng (Wind Stroke) is mostly caused by blood deficiency. The Neijing states: "To treat wind, first treat the blood; when blood flows, wind extinguishes itself." Mr. Zhang Jingyue understood this principle and proposed the theory of "Non-Wind" (Feifeng). These discussions apply to healthy adults, who still require such caution; how much more so for postpartum women whose liver blood is empty and who generate internal wind from deficiency? Heaven and Earth possess the virtue of loving life; should we not be prudent in this regard rather than treating human life as a trivial matter? I feel pity every time I witness such situations. Therefore, I compiled the *Obstetric Core Methods* into a book. These are effective experiences accumulated over decades, understood in the mind and applied by the hand, concise yet comprehensive. Letting families of parturients use it as a standard ensures the safety and recovery of lives. Once physicians have a standard, their actions will be free from error. Alas! Only those with wisdom and flexibility can discuss this path.
