"Zhu" (Infectious/Transmitted Disease) means to stay or remain, indicating that this illness is continuous, stagnant, and lingering. Upon death, it may also transmit/infect those around the deceased. When a person attends a funeral or approaches a corpse, if their constitution is deficient, they will be affected by the pathogenic qi, which then lodges in the meridians and zang-fu organs. If they come into contact with a coffin or witness funeral rites, the disease is triggered, causing stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, potentially leading to vomiting; thus, it is called "Sang Zhu" (Funeral Infectious Disease).

"Zhu" means to stay or remain, indicating that this illness is continuous, stagnant, and lingering. Some individuals, due to crying and grief, have their emotions stirred, causing deficiency in the zang-fu organs. Inauspicious and evil qi then enters the abdomen, making the limbs feel heavy. Subsequently, if they cry themselves or hear others crying, they feel melancholic and unable to control their sorrow, with grief persisting endlessly; thus, it is called "Ku Zhu" (Crying Infectious Disease).

"Zhu" means to stay or remain, indicating that this illness is continuous, stagnant, and lingering. Some individuals are infected by epidemic pestilence qi that causes death. The residual misfortune does not cease but flows and transmits to descendants and relatives. The symptoms obtained are similar to those of the deceased; thus, it is named "Yang Zhu" (Residual Misfortune Infectious Disease).

"Zhu" means to stay or remain, indicating that this illness is continuous, stagnant, and lingering. During banquets for auspicious or inauspicious occasions, external evil and toxic qi enters the five zang organs along with food and drink. It sinks and stagnates internally and flows externally, causing heaviness in the limbs and colicky pain in the heart and abdomen, with the condition alternating between remission and exacerbation. Since it is contracted through diet, it is called "Shi Zhu" (Food Infectious Disease).

"Zhu" means to stay or remain, indicating that this illness is continuous, stagnant, and lingering. This occurs because Kidney Deficiency allows pathogenic invasion, impairing the smooth transmission and distribution of fluids. The Kidney and Bladder are exterior-interiorly related and both govern water metabolism. The Bladder is the fu organ of fluid accumulation, and Kidney Qi extends downward to the yin region. If Kidney Qi is harmonious, it can properly transmit and distribute fluids; if deficient, it cannot. The Spleen and Stomach are exterior-interiorly related and both govern the Earth element. The Stomach is the sea of water and grain, and the Spleen governs the muscles of the body. The nature of Earth is to overcome Water. Now, since the Kidney fails to transmit fluids, Water Qi becomes excessive and overflows, causing the Spleen and Stomach to become weak and unable to overcome Water. Consequently, Water Qi scatters to the four limbs and corrodes the five zang internally, leading to bodily edema and abdominal distension. The condition lingers for a long time, alternating between mildness and severity; thus, it is called "Shui Zhu" (Water Infectious Disease).

"Zhu" means to stay or remain, indicating that this illness is continuous, stagnant, and lingering. Generally, when Blood and Qi are deficient and injured by Wind Pathogen, initially the pathogen resides in the skin. Later, upon repeated exhaustion of Blood and Qi and emptiness of the bone marrow, the pathogen flows and stagnates. This depletes Blood and Qi, causes muscle wasting, and makes the bone marrow feel intermittently hot, or causes sweating. The body becomes emaciated with visible bones; thus, it is called "Gu Zhu" (Bone Infectious Disease).
