Abdominal Manipulation and Qi Circulation
The abdominal manipulation method transmitted by the Buddha is essentially a form of *Yungong* (Qi circulation, i.e., the movement of internal energy guided by intention). However, these nine acupoint massage diagrams have slight variations. Practitioners of internal martial arts often adopt and frequently use this method. If internal skill has been attained, external manipulation is not necessary; it is only used concurrently when accumulating *Qi* (vital energy). When encountering illness, applying this method to the affected area yields the most miraculous results.
Furthermore, regarding the abdominal massage method, one may practice *Yungong* before sleeping or sleep before practicing *Yungong*. However, for the sleeping posture before and after manipulation, one must select a position from the preceding "Supine Posture Diagrams" to ensure safety and avoid harm.
This is the method for dispelling disease and prolonging life, namely the Abdominal Rubbing and Massage Diagrams.
Figure 1:
Press the middle and ring fingers of both hands at the *Xinwo* (epigastrium/heart pit), and rub in a clockwise circular motion twenty-one times.
Figure 2:
Using the middle and ring fingers of both hands, rub downwards from the *Xinwo*, moving while rubbing, until reaching the high bone below the umbilicus (the pubic symphysis).
Figure 3:
Using the middle and ring fingers of both hands, rub upwards from the high bone towards both sides, moving while rubbing, until reaching the *Xinwo*, where the two hands meet.
Figure 4:
Using the middle and ring fingers of both hands, push straight down from the *Xinwo* to the high bone twenty-one times.
Figure 5:
Use the right hand to rub around the umbilical abdomen twenty-one times, moving from left to right.
Figure 6:
Use the left hand to rub around the umbilical abdomen twenty-one times, moving from right to left.
Figure 7:
With the left hand, gently pinch the soft rib area on the left side over the lumbar-kidney region, with the thumb forward and four fingers supporting from behind. Then, using the middle and ring fingers of the right hand, push straight down from under the left breast to the groin (thigh cleft) twenty-one times.
Figure 8:
With the right hand, gently pinch the soft rib area on the right side over the lumbar-kidney region, with the thumb forward and four fingers supporting from behind. Then, using the middle and ring fingers of the left hand, push straight down from under the right breast to the groin (thigh cleft) twenty-one times.
Figure 9:
After completing the rubbing and massaging, sit in a cross-legged meditation posture (*Diezuo*). Press the thumbs of both hands beside the knees, with the four fingers curled and pressing on the knees. Slightly hook the ten toes of both feet. Rotate the chest first to the left then forward, then to the right then backward, rotating twenty-one times. Then, following the previous method, rotate from right to left twenty-one times.
When rotating the body to the left, swing the chest and shoulders out past the left knee; when swinging to the right, lean over the right knee; when swinging backward, arch the back and retreat. In general, do not force the rotation to completion; do not rotate quickly, and do not exert excessive force.
Whenever performing abdominal rubbing, one must concentrate the mind and clear thoughts. Lie supine on a flat mat with a low pillow, feet together, toes flexed. Rub lightly and move slowly. Completing the first eight figures in sequence constitutes one set (*Du*). Each time practicing, complete seven sets continuously, then rise and rotate twenty-one times. Follow this routine: perform as morning practice upon waking in the early morning, as noon practice during the Shen hour (3-5 PM), and as evening practice before going to sleep at night. Three sessions per day is the norm. If busy, the morning and evening sessions are indispensable. Beginners should perform two sets per session; after three days, five sets per session; after another three days, seven sets per session. This is suitable for both men and women, except for pregnant women, who must avoid it. Remember this well.
Explanation of the Complete Diagram
The complete diagram contains comprehensive principles, making the subtleties of biological generation and transformation easier to perceive. Heaven and Earth are based on *Yin-Yang*; *Yin-Yang* governs movement and stillness. The human body is also a manifestation of *Yin-Yang*. *Yin-Yang* manifests as movement and stillness. When movement and stillness are appropriate, *Qi* and Blood flow smoothly, no diseases arise, and one can fulfill their natural lifespan. If led astray by emotions and desires, one permanently violates the balance of movement and stillness. Excessive movement damages *Yin*, causing *Yang* to become excessive; excessive stillness damages *Yang*, causing *Yin* to become excessive. Moreover, if *Yin* is damaged, *Yang* has nothing to rely upon and is also injured; if *Yang* is damaged, *Yin* has nothing to generate and is also injured. Once injured, the mechanism of continuous generation and change is blocked. Without methods to guide and unblock it, the source of biological generation cannot be activated. The method of abdominal rubbing uses movement to transform stillness, and stillness to initiate movement, aligning with *Yin-Yang* and complying with the Five Elements. It stimulates vitality and facilitates miraculous transformations, thereby harmonizing the upper and lower parts, distinguishing and regulating *Yin-Yang*, eliminating the old and generating the new, enriching the Zang-Fu organs, expelling various exogenous pathogens, and eliminating endogenous diseases. It tonifies deficiency and drains excess. The principles of decline and growth respond infinitely. Why rely on alchemical elixirs? There is naturally the effect of dispelling disease and prolonging life.
