Mao Peng Chen: Dampness obstructs the meridians, with alternating chills and fever. The pulse is wiry and soggy; the tongue coating is yellow and slippery. There is thirst, and coldness in the dorsum of the feet penetrates to the bone. It is appropriate to use Xuanming Guiling Ganlu Yin (Cassia Twig, Poria, Licorice, and Dew Drink Decoction modified). (March 29)
Poria (Bai Fuling, 4 qian), Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 2 qian), Talcum (Huashi, 4 qian), Bombyx Batryticatus (Wan Can Sha, 2 qian, wrapped), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 7 fen), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 3 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao, 1.5 qian), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Jiangshu, 1 qian), Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix (Fangji, 1.5 qian), Trichosanthis Radix (Gualougen, 3 qian), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie, 3 qian).
Commentary by Shao Jie: Dampness stagnates the Yang Qi of the Spleen and Stomach. The Spleen and Stomach are connected by membranes; when pathogens lodge here, alternating chills and fever occur. The Spleen governs the four limbs, hence edema often appears in the feet. Treatment employs Guiling Ganlu Yin to guide the dispersion of dampness and unblock Yang Qi.
Certain Patient: Chills and fever persist without clearing. The pulse is soggy and rapid; the tongue coating is slippery and white. Cough has slightly decreased. This indicates Damp-Heat obstructing the Qi Level. It is appropriate to treat the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian, assisted by bland diuretics. (April 18)
Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 3 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Xian Banxia, 1.5 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride (Chao Qingpi, 0.8 fen), Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Baikouren, 0.8 fen, taken with liquid), Poria (Fuling, 4 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Chao Tianqin, 1.5 qian), Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus (Chuanbei, 1.5 qian), Talcum (Huashi, 4 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Guang Juhong, 1 qian), Arecae Pericarpium (Dafupi, 3 qian), Bambusae Folium (Danzhuru, 1 pill).
Take three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Damp-Heat obstructs the Qi Level, causing chills, fever, and cough. The presentation resembles Pulmonary Malaria; thus, the intent of Banbei Wan (Pinellia and Fritillaria Pill) is borrowed to resolve chills and fever. Simultaneously, Lung Qi is cleared and肃ified to leach out Damp-Heat.
Certain Patient: Cough and upward reversal have ceased. The pulse is wiry; the tongue coating is white with a slight yellow root. Stool is loose; urine is red and dysuric. This indicates accumulation of Damp-Heat.
Trichosanthis Pericarpium (Gualoupi, 3 qian), Talcum (Yuanshuashi, 4 qian), Tectonae Herba (Tongcao, 1.5 qian), Amomi Pericarpium (Kequ, 1.5 qian), Red Poria (Chiling, 4 qian), Curcumae Radix (Guang Yujin, 3 qian), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike, 1.5 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Pogostemonis Herba (Shengtoucao, 1.5 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Xinhuiqi, 1.5 qian), Cocted Hordeum Sprout (Chao Guya, 3 qian).
Decoct in clear water for three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Damp-Heat accumulates; Spleen deficiency causes loose stools. In treatment, aromatic Qi-regulating herbs are added to damp-leaching methods so that dampness easily descends. However, Xingren (Prunus Armeniaca Seed) excels at draining Lung Qi; once Lung Qi descends, it may adversely affect loose stools.
Ma An Zhao: Damp-Heat injures Qi, with alternating chills and fever, cold limbs, vomiting and reflux, free passage of stool and urine, weak deep pulse, yellow slippery tongue coating with slight whiteness on sides, and epigastric stuffiness. It is appropriate to use Xuanming Guiling Ganlu Yin modified, especially guarding against syncope changes, pending stabilization. (June 16)
Poria (Fuling, 3 qian), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie, 3 qian), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Xian Banxia, 1.5 qian), Pogostemonis Herba (Huoxiang, 2 qian), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 8 fen), Polyporus (Zhuling, 1.5 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Tianqin, 3 qian), Fermented Sorghum (Jiaoqu, 4 qian), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu, 1.5 qian), Talcum (Huashi, 4 qian), Sojae Semen Praeparatum (Dadoujuan, 3 qian).
Decoct in clear water for two doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Dampness obstructs the Qi Level, condensing and suppressing Clear Yang, which stagnates and transforms into Heat. Diaphoresis is strictly contraindicated; sweating leads to spasms and syncope. Now imitating the intent of Guiling Ganlu Yin, using damp-leaching and heat-clearing to unblock Yang is the correct treatment.
Yifeng Pang: Damp-Heat causing chills and fever. The pulse is wiry and soggy; epigastric fullness with Qi stagnation, abdominal pain, and loose stools. Temporarily harmonize the middle and promote dampness drainage.
Areca Seed (Caoguo, 5 fen), Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (Sheng Xiangfu, 3 qian), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Xian Banxia, 1.5 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride (Chao Qingpi, 0.8 fen), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Chuanpu, 1 qian), Red Poria (Chiling, 4 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Chao Tianqin, 1.5 qian), Talcum (Yuanshuashi, 4 qian), Arecae Pericarpium (Dafupi, 3 qian), Aucklandiae Radix (Guangmuxiang, 7 fen), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Weilingxian, 1.5 qian).
Decoct in clear water for three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: The Spleen loses its function of transportation and transformation; the Stomach loses its digestive authority. Damp-Heat accumulates in the diaphragm, causing alternating chills and fever, Qi stagnation, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. This formula opens the Membrane Source, strengthens the Spleen, harmonizes the Stomach, regulates Qi, and leaches dampness, all being very safe and effective.
Shengling Xu: The Middle Jiao is not harmonized; Qi rushes causing epigastric stuffiness. The pulse is sluggish and choppy; Damp-Heat accumulates. It is appropriate to smooth Qi and harmonize the middle.
Linderae Radix (Wuyao, 2 qian), Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 3 qian), Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (Sheng Xiangfu, 3 qian), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike, 1.5 qian), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Nongpu, 1 qian), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie, 3 qian), Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum Fermentatum (Chenxiangqu, 1.5 qian), Rosae Rugosae Flos (Meiguahua, 5 flowers), Ostreae Concha (Sheng Muli, 4 qian), Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli (Jineijin, 3 qian), Tectonae Herba (Tongcao, 1.5 qian).
Decoct in clear water for four doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Muli Zexie San (Oyster Shell and Alisma Powder) is a specialized formula for treating water qi stagnation below the waist. Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) can raise the clear Qi from water; Muli (Ostreae Concha) can resolve damp-turbidity obstruction in the Lower Jiao. Master Ye Tianshi made good use of ancient formulas; when using Muli Zexie San, he only took these two ingredients, not using the original formula entirely. This case also follows this intent. Because of Qi rushing and epigastric stuffiness, Jineijin (Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli) is added to regulate Qi. It is indeed an excellent agent for treating accumulated Damp-Heat.
Shengling Xu: Stomach Qi has slightly revived, but dampness remains uncleared. The tongue coating is slippery, tender, and yellow; the pulse is soggy. Sensation of heaviness in the lower back. Leaching and draining are appropriate.
Red Poria (Chiling, 4 qian), Pogostemonis Caulis (Huogeng, 2 qian), Amomi Pericarpium (Kequ, 1.5 qian), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Xian Banxia, 1.5 qian), Pogostemonis Herba (Shengtoucao, 1.5 qian), Gardeniae Fructus (Jiao Zhizi, 3 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Hordeum Vulgare Sprout (Guya, 4 qian), Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 3 qian), Tectonae Herba (Tongcao, 1.5 qian), Sojae Semen Praeparatum (Dadoujuan, 3 qian).
Decoct in clear water for three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Residual dampness flows into the Lower Jiao after illness. Treatment uses acrid dispersal, assisted by heat-clearing, to preserve the fluids of the Yangming. This shows profound insight. The dampness spreads from the Upper and Middle Jiao to the Lower Jiao. Thus, the method remains opening and dispersing the Upper and Middle Jiao; if the source is clear, the flow becomes clean naturally.
Anchang Ye: Damp-Heat is not yet cleared. The pulse is soggy and fine; the tongue coating is thin and slippery. Afternoon chills in the back and sudden fever. It is appropriate to treat with Xuanming Guiling Ganlu Yin modified.
Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 5 fen), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Jiangshu, 1 qian), Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 3 qian), Lophatheri Herba (Danzhuye, 1.5 qian), Poria (Fuling, 4 qian), Hypsorum (Hanshuishi, 3 qian), Talcum (Yuanshuashi, 4 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie, 3 qian), Polyporus (Zhuling, 1.5 qian), Dendrobii Caulis (Chaihu, 3 qian).
Decoct in clear water for four doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Damp-Heat is not yet cleared; Spleen Yang is suppressed. The modification of Ganlu Yin is excellent. However, Chaihu (Dendrobii Caulis), while nourishing Stomach fluids, may risk retaining dampness.
Lizhu Wu: Tongue coating is slightly yellow; pulse is fine and rapid. Back chills and limb numbness; epigastric obstruction and bi-syndrome. This belongs to Damp Pathogen. It is appropriate to warm the Gallbladder and dispel pathogens.
Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Xian Banxia, 1.5 qian), Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (Zhishi, 1.5 qian), Pogostemonis Herba (Shengtoucao, 3 qian), Curcumae Radix (Guang Yujin, 3 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi, 1 qian), Gardeniae Fructus (Jiao Zhizi, 3 qian).
Two doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Damp-Heat spreads through the Triple Burner, blocking Qi mechanism and preventing circulation. Body fluids coagulate into phlegm-fluids, causing epigastric obstruction. Phlegm blocks the Qi mechanism. Therefore, the treatment adds Xiebai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus) and Xingren (Prunus Armeniaca Seed) to Wendan Tang (Warm the Gallbladder Decoction) to unblock Yang in the chest. Then back chills and limb numbness will be removed. Add Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) and Chi (Perilla Seed) to drain long-stagnated heat; add Shengtoucao (Pogostemonis Herba) to cleanse stale Qi and awaken the Spleen and Stomach. This formula derives from Wang Mengying’s teachings and is worthy of emulation.
Yifeng Li: Tongue color is yellow and slippery, root thick; pulse is soggy and fine. Dizziness and limb soreness, aversion to cold with slight fever, frequent urination, and constipation. It is appropriate to treat with Ganlu Yin modified. (May 23)
Poria (Fuling, 4 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Chao Tianqin, 1.5 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Areca Seed (Zaorebangle, 3 qian), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 5 fen), Talcum (Yuanshuashi, 4 qian), Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix (Fangji, 1.5 qian), Cocted Hordeum Sprout (Chao Guya, 4 qian), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie, 3 qian), Polyporus (Zhuling, 1.5 qian), Sojae Semen Praeparatum (Dadoujuan, 3 qian).
Decoct in clear water for two doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: The Yang Qi of the Spleen and Stomach is depressed by Damp-Heat and fails to rise. Treatment clears Damp-Heat and supports the Spleen. Then all ailments will recede.
Anchang Gu: Dampness obstructs the Lung and Wei (Defensive) levels. The pulse is wiry; the tongue coating is slightly yellow. Frequent hiccups; urine is red. The condition is severe and dangerous. It is appropriate to diffuse Lung Qi, pending stabilization. (July 18)
Trichosanthis Pericarpium (Gualoupi, 3 qian), Tectonae Herba (Tongcao, 1.5 qian), Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Fructus (Daoudouzi, 3 qian), Pogostemonis Herba (Shengtoucao, 3 qian), Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus (Jing Chuanbei, 1.5 qian), Curcumae Radix (Guang Yujin, 3 qian), Red Poria (Chiling, 4 qian), Belamcandae Radix (Shegan, 1.5 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Guang Juhong, 1.5 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Diospyroi Fructus (Shidi, 7 pieces as guide), Loquat Leaf (Pipaye, depilated, 5 leaves).
Two doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Dampness obstructs the Lung and Wei levels; phlegm formation congests the damp-diaphragm, leading to red urine and hiccups. Clearing and diffusing Lung Qi is the correct treatment.
Yifeng Jin: Tongue coating is slippery and slightly yellow; head distension and limb flaccidity; pulse is soggy and fine; cough and upward reversal. This belongs to Damp-Heat. It is appropriate to treat with Baohe Wan modified. (June 22, Bingwu Chuyi)
Fermented Sorghum (Jiao Liuqu, 4 qian), Crataegi Fructus (Shanzha, 3 qian), Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 3 qian), Pogostemonis Caulis (Guang Huogeng, 2 qian), Forsythiae Fructum (Lianqiao, 3 qian), Red Poria (Chiling, 4 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Sojae Semen Praeparatum (Dadoujuan, 3 qian), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Xian Banxia, 1.5 qian), Pogostemonis Herba (Shengtoucao, 1.5 qian), Talcum (Yuanshuashi, 4 qian).
Decoct in clear water for three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Externally acquired dampness, stagnating in the Qi level, causes cough and headache. Internally generated dampness, due to careless diet, lodges in the Middle Jiao, causing Spleen and Stomach to lose digestion. The Spleen governs the four limbs; now blocked by Damp-Heat, limbs become flaccid. Treatment focuses on resolving accumulation and leaching dampness, belonging to the pattern of Damp-Heat with food retention.
Yuzhuang Shen: Malaria pathogen has been eliminated. The pulse is wiry and soggy; Damp-Heat remains. Tongue coating is slippery and white. Recurrent epistaxis. Clearing and draining is stable. (May 17)
Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 3 qian), Pogostemonis Caulis (Huogeng, 2 qian), Sojae Semen Praeparatum (Dadoujuan, 3 qian), Hordeum Vulgare Sprout (Guya, 4 qian), Gardeniae Fructus (Jiao Zhizi, 3 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Dan Tianqin, 1.5 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Tectonae Herba (Tongcao, 1.5 qian), Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Kouren, 0.8 fen, taken with liquid), Talcum (Yuanshuashi, 4 qian), Pogostemonis Herba (Shengtoucao, 1.5 qian).
Decoct in clear water for three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Blood flowing through the clear orifices exits from the nose, anciently called "Nu" (epistaxis). This case is caused by Yangming Damp-Heat transforming into fire, forcing blood to overflow upwards. Thus, clearing and draining Damp-Heat remains the fundamental therapy.
Anchang Xu: Tongue coating is yellow, slippery, covered with gray; pulse is wiry and soggy. Stomach feels dull; dorsum of feet is swollen, urine is red. This belongs to Damp-Heat. It is appropriate to treat with Yueju Wan method modified. (July 12, Bingwu Ershiqi)
Fermented Sorghum (Jiao Liuqu, 4 qan), Angelica Dahurica Root (Baizhi, 0.8 fen), Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 3 qian), Pogostemonis Caulis (Huogeng, 2 qian), Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (Xiangfu, 2 qian), Poria (Fuling, 4 qian), Talcum (Huashi, 4 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Xinhuiqi, 1.5 qian), Gardeniae Fructus (Jiao Zhizi, 3 qian), Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli (Jineijin, 3 qian), Cocted Hordeum Sprout (Chao Guya, 4 qian).
Decoct in clear water for three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Damp-Heat lodges in the Spleen and Stomach, accompanied by Qi depression and food retention, causing foot swelling and red urine. Thus, Yueju Wan (Six Depression Pill), the main formula for treating six depressions, is modified.
Yifeng Hu: Damp-Heat attaches internally. Epigastric stuffiness and constipation, bone-steaming fever, sluggish pulse, thick tender yellow tongue coating, swollen and cold feet. Clearing and draining is appropriate. (June 15)
Bombyx Batryticatus (Wan Can Sha, 3 qian), Trichosanthis Seed (Gualouzi, 3 qian), Fermented Sorghum (Jiao Liuqu, 4 qian), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Chao Zhike, 1.5 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian), Red Poria (Chiling, 4 qian), Talcum (Yuanshuashi, 4 qian), Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli (Jineijin, 3 qian), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Xian Banxia, 1.5 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Dan Qin, 1.5 qian), Arecae Pericarpium (Dafupi, 3 qian), Liquidambaris Fructus (Lulutong, 7 pieces).
Three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Thick yellow tongue coating, epigastric stuffiness, and constipation indicate Damp-Heat stagnating in the Yangming. Merely clearing heat and purging pathogens only scatters wandering heat but cannot remove the accumulated pathogens in the Stomach. Therefore, in the clearing-draining formula, Can Sha (Bombyx Batryticatus) and Lou Ren (Trichosanthis Seed) are added to guide damp-turbidity downward.
Yifeng Xu: Tongue coating is yellow covered with gray; tidal fever; pulse is wiry and soggy. Damp-Heat accumulates in the meridians; loose stools and red urine. Temporarily clear heat and drain dampness, fearing transformations. (August 9, Dingwei Ershiqi)
Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Chao Zhimu, 1.5 qian), Trichosanthis Pericarpium (Gualoupi, 3 qian), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Xian Banxia, 1.5 qian), Red Poria (Chiling, 4 qian), Areca Seed (Caoguoren, 1.5 qian), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Chao Zhike, 1.5 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Tianqin, 1.5 qian), Tectonae Herba (Tongcao, 1.5 qian), Arecae Pericarpium (Dafupi, 3 qian), Talcum (Yuanshuashi, 4 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian).
Decoct in clear water for two doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Damp-Heat accumulates in the Membrane Source. The Membrane Source is where the Spleen and Stomach connect. Excess dampness causes loose stools; excess heat causes tidal fever. Using Caoguo (Areca Seed) to treat Taiyin cold and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) to clear Yangming heat, combined, they are excellent for treating alternating chills and fever caused by dampness lodging in the Membrane Source.
Certain Patient: Damp-Heat has not subsided. Pulse is sluggish; tongue coating is thick and slightly yellow. Foot dorsum soreness and epigastric stuffiness. Temporarily harmonize the middle and clear/drain. (May 18)
Bombyx Batryticatus (Wan Can Sha, 3 qian), Fermented Sorghum (Jiao Liuqu, 4 qian), Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 3 qian), Pogostemonis Caulis (Huoxiang geng, 2 qian), Red Poria (Chiling, 4 qian), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Nongpu, 1 qian), Talcum (Yuanshuashi, 4 qian), Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli (Jineijin, 3 qian), Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix (Fangji, 1.5 qian), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike, 1.5 qian), Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (Xiangfu, 3 qian).
Decoct in clear water for three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Summer body pain belongs to dampness; one should use Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) and Can Sha (Bombyx Batryticatus), as stated by Master Ye Xiangyan. Using this for foot dorsum soreness is indeed symptomatic medication. The use of Liuqu (Fermented Sorghum) and Jijin (Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli) implies food retention. Nongpu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) and Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) are used to relieve epigastric stuffiness. The remaining ingredients are bland diuretics, helping to eliminate lingering Damp-Heat. Huogeng (Pogostemonis Caulis) and Xiangfu (Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix) regulate Qi; once Qi mechanism turns, Damp-Heat departs naturally.
Damp-Heat Jaundice: Pulse is sluggish; tongue coating is slippery; face and foot dorsum are puffy. The condition is extremely severe. Clearing and draining is appropriate, pending stabilization. (August 3) Zhu Shutian
Yinchen Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Mian Yichen, 3 qian), Sojae Semen Praeparatum (Dadoujuan, 3 qian), Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli (Jineijin, 3 qian), Benincasae Exocarpium (Dongguapi, 3 qian), Red Poria (Chiling, 4 qian), Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Baikouren, 0.8 fen), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Xinhuiqi, 1.5 qian), Coix Seed (Sheng Yiren, 4 qian), Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix (Fangji, 1.5 qian), Talcum (Huashi, 4 qian), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Guang Xingren, 3 qian).
Decoct in clear water for three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: When dampness and heat combine, stagnation and depression do not resolve. Unable to reach the exterior or penetrate the interior, they inevitably evaporate into jaundice. Here, acrid-bland herbs drain dampness, causing internal stagnant Damp-Heat to descend. The jaundice resolves through urination.
Xizhuang Huang: Trauma injuring sinews from falling/swelling. Swelling, obstruction, and pain at the Huantiao point. Pulse is soggy with strong left side; tongue coating is yellow and slippery. Damp-Heat causes diarrhea. Temporarily harmonize collaterals, clear heat, and drain dampness. (August 19, Wushen Chuyi)
Pheretima (Gan Dilong, 1.5 qian), Baidye Jian (2 qian), Coix Seed (Chao Yiren, 4 qian), Pogostemonis Caulis (Huogeng, 2 qian), Cao [Missing Character] (3 qian), Poria (Fuling, 4 qian), Tectonae Herba (Tongcao, 1.5 qian), Plantaginis Seed (Cheqian, 3 qian), Arecae Pericarpium (Dafupi, 3 qian), Chaenomelis Fructus (Muqua, 3 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Xinhuiqi, 1.5 qian as guide), Mori Ramulus (Sangzhi, approx. 1 chi).
Three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Due to trauma injuring sinews, dampness stagnates causing swelling and obstruction. Qi stagnation and collateral blood stasis lead to blockage and pain. Thus, Dilong (Pheretima), [Missing Character], and Sangzhi (Mori Ramulus) are used to unblock collaterals. Because dampness excess causes diarrhea, spleen-strengthening and damp-leaching agents are used to clear heat and stop diarrhea. Moreover, Yiren (Coix Seed) and Muqua (Chaenomelis Fructus) are excellent for treating soreness and pain of leg sinews caused by Damp-Heat obstruction.
Yifeng Pang: Tongue coating is slippery and white; pulse is soggy and fine. Epigastric stuffiness, red urine, profuse sweating. Harmonize the middle and clear/drain is appropriate.
Fermented Sorghum (Jiao Liuqu, 4 qian), Pogostemonis Caulis (Huoxiang geng, 1 qian), Cocted Hordeum Sprout (Chao Guya, 4 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Xinhuiqi, 1.5 qian), Red Poria (Chiling, 3 qian), Amomi Pericarpium (Kequ, 1.5 qian), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike, 1.5 qian), Pogostemonis Herba (Shengtoucao, 3 qian), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Chuanpu, 1 qian), Tectonae Herba (Tongcao, 1.5 qian), Lophatheri Herba (Dan Zhuye, 1.5 qian), Nelumbinis Folium (Heye, 1 corner).
Three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Turbid dampness rising causes epigastric stuffiness; stomach heat steaming internally causes sweating. The disease is in the Qi level of the Middle Jiao. Therefore, opening the Damp-Heat in the Middle Jiao Qi level, combined with harmonizing the Stomach, is the treatment.
