Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (Boiled, 8 qian) Radix Ophiopogonis (5 qian, dried), Radix Dolichandroneae Spathulatae (5 qian, boiled until soft), Cortex Phellodendri Amurensis (3 qian, roasted), Radix Trichosanthis (5 qian), Natrii Chloridum (3 qian), Indicum (1.5 qian), Radix Scrophulariae (4 qian, stir-fried), Frost of Persimmon (1 liang), Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati (2 qian), Borneolum Syntheticum (1.5 qian).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix and form pills as described previously, coat with Sparganii Pollen, and suck one pill. This pill is specifically for treating soreness and swelling of the throat caused by deficiency fire. [Commentary: The previous prescription focuses on the Heart, Lung, and Stomach, thus treating excess fire. This prescription focuses on the Liver, Spleen, and Kidney, thus treating deficiency fire. It is an essential medicine for physicians.]
Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (8 fen), Yudan (5 fen), Fructus Fritillariae Cirrhosae (1 qian), Ash of Junci Medioflexi Caulis (5 li), Frost of Persimmon (8 fen), Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis (1.5 li), Radix Trichosanthis (1 qian).
Grind the above herbs evenly, mix with white honey to form a paste, swallow frequently, and hold in the mouth for immediate effect. This paste is specifically for treating conditions such as pharyngeal lichen planus (Hou Xuan) and laryngeal polyps/tumors (Hou Jun). If the condition is severe, take other decoctions concurrently and use insufflation powders. For treating throat spines (Hou Ci), avoid using Yudan and Menthae Haplocalycis Herba. If signs of severe consumptive disease with exhaustion of body fluids and blazing fire are present, it should not be used.
To prevent toxic pathogens from attacking the Heart.
True Mung Bean Powder (1 liang), Resina Boswelliae (de-oiled, 5 qian), Ash of Junci Medioflexi Caulis (a small amount). [Commentary: When I treat warm pathogenic factors complicated by toxicity that counter-flow and trap in the Pericardium, I often use a formula with Mung Bean Coat stir-fried with Flos Lonicerae Japonicae and Cinnabar-coated Juncus Medioflexus Caulis as guides, which is very effective. This shows that medication must be flexible and not rigidly adhered to a single method.]
Cinnabaris, Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis (each 1 qian), Resina Boswelliae (pure powder, 3 qian).
Grind the above herbs together into fine powder, mix evenly. Decoct 1 liang of raw Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis in water to make a strong decoction, mix with one spoonful of the powder, and sip slowly from time to time. [Commentary: This prescription is not as clear and agile as the previous one; it is proposed to add Calyx Forsythiae Cum Corde, Semen Gossypii Herbacei, and Mung Bean Coat for simultaneous decoction, which would be more appropriate. If phlegm and saliva are excessively obstructing, consider administering Kongyan Dan (Control Phlegm Pill) in small doses.]
Treats cough caused by phlegm-dampness and rebellious Qi.
Fructus Fritillariae Cirrhosae, Radix Trichosanthis, Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis.
Decoct the above three herbs in water and take orally.
