Chuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Sheng Puhuang (Typhae Pollen) (each 1 qian)
This powder is specifically used to treat tongue swelling caused by yin fire in women; applying it externally causes the swelling to subside immediately. For treating mu she (wooden tongue, characterized by stiffness and swelling of the tongue), first wipe the affected area with ginger dipped in borax, then apply this formula externally, which is also effective.
For female patients, as well as male patients suffering from throat conditions resulting from excessive sexual activity, leading to sudden loss of voice or throat swelling, this formula can be used. However, it must be confirmed that the condition is a yin syndrome before treatment. The original name was "San Yun Dan".
Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Yanxiao (Natrii Sulfas), each 2 qian; Pengsha (Borax), 1 qian; Puhuang (Typhae Pollen), 5 fen; Chuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma), 4 fen; Zhusha (Cinnabaris), 2 fen; Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum), 3 fen.
This powder is a miraculous remedy for throat diseases caused by wind-heat. If treating zou ma gan (gangrenous stomatitis, a severe necrotic ulcer of the mouth) or gu chao feng (osteomyelitis of the jawbone) causing tooth loss and other severe conditions, it should be used in conjunction with a formula for removing necrotic tissue. For tang lang zi (elongated or edematous uvula), burn Sangpiaoxiao (Mantis Egg Case) until carbonized but retaining its nature, grind into fine powder, add a small amount of Borneolum Syntheticum, and insufflate into the throat for immediate relief; using Ma Bo (Pleurotus Eryngii) in combination is also effective. For various bones stuck in the throat, adding Jixingzi (Impatiens Seed) ground into powder will cure it. [Editor's Note: To treat various bone obstructions, Dengxin Cao ash (Junci Medulla Ash) taken with warm water cures it; chicken bones are treated with Ramie fiber or sesame oil; fish bones with garlic, white sugar, or olive; bamboo or wood splinters with iron rust; swallowed needles with a lodestone and Mirabilite; hair wrapped around the throat is treated by ingesting ash from one's own fever; snail shells stuck in the throat are treated with duck saliva. Each substance has its specific countermeasure, opposing yet complementary, embodying a cyclical principle of reason, each with its dedicated formula. Do not rigidly rely solely on Jixingzi. Jixingzi refers to Impatiens seeds, chosen for their rapid and acute action.]
Qiancaogen mo (Root of Rubia Cordifolia powder). This medicine specifically eliminates hard masses. Mix Qiancaogen mo into Liansha San and insufflate it; the hardness will soften immediately.
The original book used "Ru Gen" (Rubia cordifolia root). In modern times, ignorant people do not know what it is, and pharmacies do not stock it, so Qian Gen (Rubiae Radix et Rhizoma) is used as a substitute. [Editor's Note: "Yuewei Caotang Biji" records that in the Western Regions, there is a flying insect named Ba La. If a person is bitten by it, death is inevitable. Only by eating Qiancaogen and applying it to the wound can recovery occur. It is noted that Wulumuqi produces much Qian Gen, and its juice can dye a new crimson color, indicating that Qian Gen indeed originates from Tibet, whereas those sold in markets are mostly counterfeit. The classic text mentions "Si Wu Lei Gu Yi Ru", where "Ru" refers to Qian Gen. Given the current doubt about substituting Qian Gen for "Ru", this clarification is provided.]
