After the severe winter, there must be the warm spring. From this, we know that within heaven and earth, if there is no convergence (storage), life cannot arise; if there is no harmony and centrality, life cannot arise. This is the natural principle. Nowadays, people, ignorant of the principle of storage (winter conservation of essence), indulge their desires, exhaust their kidney essence, and dissipate their true qi without limit. When they find themselves unable to conceive, some claim it is due to cold blood, others say it is due to cold semen, and administer drying and heating agents, thereby further depleting their true yin. How can they have children? Generally speaking, the cause of infertility lies not only with the woman but also frequently with the man. Men who engage in sexual activity excessively, ejaculating too much, may have semen as clear as water or as cold as ice. Those with endless worries and high ambitions also find it difficult to father a child. The heart governs the spirit (Shen); when ejaculation occurs, the spirit wanders outward, injuring the Ministerial Fire (Jun Huo) so that it fails to descend. The kidneys govern wisdom; when overworked, wisdom becomes chaotic internally, causing Kidney deficiency so that it fails to ascend. When the upper and lower do not interact, and water and fire do not intermingle, it has never been known for conception to occur. (Those seeking offspring should accumulate merit, then regulate desires and preserve essence, naturally receiving good children from Heaven. Relying solely on medicine is not only ineffective but potentially harmful; be cautious. I have elaborated on this in my *Records of Clinical Cases*. Additionally, men with congenital impotence, women with abdominal masses (Jia Shan), and those who are obese and fleshy all show signs of infertility; one must not treat them rigidly based on a single pattern. For treatment: if caused by excessive sexual fatigue with semen clear as water and cold as ice, Liushen Wan (Six Divine Pills) is indicated. If essence is exhausted, Wuwei Jingjing Wan (Five-Flavor Essence-Replenishing Pill) is indicated. If essence is just beginning to decline and cannot project far, Liu Zi Wan (Six-Seed Pill) is indicated. If constitutionally weak with Qi and Blood deficiency, Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) plus Cervus Antler (Ronglu) is indicated. If there is excessive thinking and flourishing Heart Fire preventing desire regulation, Dafengsui Dan (Great Phoenix Marrow Pill) is indicated. Intermittently take Liushen Wan, morning and evening, and before bed take Dingzhi Wan (Stabilizing Will Pill) or Anshen Wan (Calming Spirit Pill). If confirmed as deficiency-cold, Guzhen Wan (Solidify Truth Pill) may also be taken. Symptoms such as impotence and numbness should still be addressed according to their respective disease categories. For women, infertility requires regulating the menses. Refer to the Menses Regulation section. (Regulating menses primarily involves soothing the Liver and nourishing Water. Liver Qi disorders are particularly severe in women, often presenting as fullness and distension under the left hypochondrium, nausea, and vomiting, all stemming from congenital Liver Blood insufficiency. Treatment via nourishment brings balance. Misusing draining methods is dangerous. If Blood deficiency leads to hyperactive Liver Qi attacking the Stomach epigastrium and invading the legs, causing vomiting upon eating and leg cramps leading to spasms and convulsions, this indicates Liver disease entering the collaterals due to insufficient Blood flow. Do not adhere to the notion that "the Liver has no tonification method" and recklessly use draining agents; instead, nourish Water to generate Liver Wood, following the principle that Liver and Kidney share the same source.) If there is heat in the body, Zengsun Dihuang Wan (Modified Rehmannia Pill) and Aifu Danggui Wan (Mugwort and Ligusticum Angelica Pill) are indicated. Intermittently take Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). If constitutionally weak with Spleen-Stomach Qi deficiency failing to nourish the Chong and Ren vessels, Buzhong Wan (Tonify Middle Pill) is indicated. If the physique is solid but prone to depression and anger, leading to irregular menses and inability to conceive, Zhufu Wan (Boiled Aconite Pill) or Xiangfu San (Cyperus Powder) are indicated. If obese and fleshy, unable to conceive, the Baotang Method (Uterus-Cleansing Method) from *Excellent Prescriptions* and sit-guidation methods may be adopted. Also, regularly take Jingyan Yutai Wan (Experienced Fetus-Nourishing Pill). If indeed constitutionally weak, irregular lifestyle, and indulgence in raw/cold foods lead to uterine deficiency-cold and inability to conceive, Yutai Wan (Fetus-Nourishing Pill) is primary; Renzi Wan (Renzi Pill) may be taken intermittently. During medication periods above, strict abstinence from sexual intercourse is required for efficacy. Even thoughts must not be lightly stirred; once Heart Fire moves, true essence will follow and leak away, rendering previous efforts futile. Be vigilant! Note: The principles of seed-conception involve four aspects: 1. Selecting the ground, 2. Nourishing the seed, 3. Timing the moment, 4. Applying to emptiness. What is ground? Mother's Blood. What is seed? Father's Essence. What is timing? The convergence of Essence and Blood interaction. What is applying to emptiness? The initial stage of discarding the old and generating the new. Ancient methods set the standard at thirty hours after menstruation ends; beyond this, the uterus closes, and even if intercourse occurs, pregnancy does not result—this is the principle of timing. Ultimately, clearing the mind and reducing desires is the supreme excellent method. In my thirty-plus years of treating obstetrics and gynecology, encountering major dangers and crises, achieving eight or nine out of ten recoveries, was all due to correct application of tonification, not following the vulgar trend of prioritizing symptom relief and blood stasis removal. My *Records of Clinical Cases* contain many selected examples; reviewing them will increase knowledge."
