(That is, Shenqi Wan [Kidney Qi Pill], seen in the chapter on Miscellaneous Diseases of Women.) It treats lower back pain due to Xu Lao [deficiency-consumption syndrome], urgency and tension in the lower abdomen, and difficulty in urination. This pill is the primary treatment.
It treats various deficiencies caused by Xu Lao [deficiency-consumption syndrome] and numerous diseases induced by Wind pathogen.
Shuyu (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) (30 fen), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (7 fen), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (6 fen), Fuling (Poria) (5 fen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (20 fen), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (6 fen), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (6 fen), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (6 fen), Douhuangjuan (Sojae Semen Praeparatum) (10 fen), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (6 fen), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) (100 pieces), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (10 fen), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) (10 fen), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (5 fen), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) (5 fen), Fuling (Poria) (5 fen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (5 fen), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (5 fen), Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) (10 fen), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini) (10 fen), Bailian (Ampelopsis Radix) (2 fen).
The above twenty-one herbs are ground into powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of a bullet. Take one pill orally with wine on an empty stomach; one hundred pills constitute one dose.
The song states: Thirty parts Shuyu and twenty parts Gancao, three parts Ginger, two parts Bailian, and a hundred dates. Jiegeng, Fuling, and Chaihu each at five parts are uniform; Renshen and Ejiao each at seven parts are sought. Furthermore, six parts of other herbs allow the pill's efficacy to be achieved. For Wind pathogens, myriad ailments, and various deficiencies, regulating Yin and Yang is considered the supreme treasure.
Wei Nianting said: The Yuan Qi [original qi] of humans resides in the Lung, and the Yuan Yang [original yang] resides in the Kidney. Once depleted, it is difficult to recover quickly. It relies entirely on post-heaven food qi to nourish and benefit it. Xiong, Shaoyao, Dihuang, Maidong, and Ejiao nourish blood and yin. Chaihu, Guizhi, and Fangfeng dispel evil and dissipate heat. Xingren, Jiegeng, and Bailian direct qi downward and open depression. We fear that patients with deficiency and heat may reject tonifying medicines from the upper jiao. Therefore, we scatter the evil heat and open the rebellious depression, so that qi and blood become smooth, allowing tonifying medicines to be accepted. This is the most appropriate and unchangeable principle.
It treats insomnia accompanied by vexation due to Xu Lao [deficiency-consumption syndrome].
Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen) (2 sheng), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) (2 liang), Fuling (Poria) (2 liang), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (1 liang).
The above five herbs are boiled in eight sheng of water. First, boil Suanzaoren until six sheng remain. Then add the remaining herbs and boil until three sheng are obtained. Divide into three warm doses.
The song states: Boil two sheng of Suanzaoren first to make decoction; Fuling and Zhimu, two liang each, assist well. Xiong and Gancao, one part each, regulate mutually; after taking, one sleeps peacefully and soundly.
You Zaijing said: When awake, Hun [ethereal soul] resides in the eyes; when sleeping, Hun hides in the Liver. In cases of Xu Lao [deficiency-consumption syndrome], Liver qi fails to nourish, so Suanzaoren is used to tonify and astringe. However... (text ends here)
