Treats the condition of *Zhuanjin* (muscle cramps/tetany). The patient's arms and legs are stiff and straight. The pulse runs from the cun to chi positions in an upward direction, presenting a slightly wiry (*Xian*) quality. If the cramping extends into the abdomen, this powder is the primary treatment.
Grind chicken excrement white (*Ji Shi Bai*) into a powder. Take one *cun bi* (a square-inch measure) as a dose. Mix with six *liang* of water. Stir well and take warm.
The verse states: Cramping extending to the abdomen with a slightly wiry pulse; Liver Qi invading the Spleen is no coincidence. The Chicken is the Wood animal, its excrement is Earth; grinding them together utilizes the principle of similarity for miraculous efficacy.
You Zaijing commented: The *Neijing* states, "All sudden stiffness and rigidity belong to Wind." In cases of cramping extending to the abdomen, it is due to deficiency of Spleen Earth allowing Liver Wood to overact upon it. The Chicken corresponds to the Wood element.
Treats *Yinhu Shanqi* (scrotal hernia). Characterized by asymmetry in size (one side larger than the other) and intermittent movement up and down. This formula is indicated.
Araneus (*Zhi Zhu*, Spider) (14 pieces, stir-fried until charred). Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, *Guizhi*) (half tael).
Grind the above two ingredients into a powder. Take 1/8 of a *cun bi* as a dose, mixed with water for administration. Take twice daily. It may also be formed into honey pills.
The verse states: *Yinhu Shanqi* persisting for a long time is difficult to cure. (The scrotum is a Yin pathology; the odor is fishy and foul like the musk of a fox.) Asymmetry in size (sometimes leaning left, sometimes right); ten fried and pounded spiders paired with half a tael of Cinnamon Twig is appropriate.
Note: For this condition, using Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) would be more potent than using Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig).
Wang Jinsan commented: The Spider has a Yin and fierce nature, appearing and disappearing unpredictably; it can settle wind hidden in darkness. Its efficacy lies in the shell, capable of draining stagnant Qi in the Lower Jiao. Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) is aromatic... [Text appears truncated here]
Treats Ascariasis (*Hui Chong Bing*). Manifesting as spitting saliva, heart pain, and episodic attacks. When toxic drugs fail to stop the symptoms, this formula is indicated.
Gancao (Licorice Root, *Gancao*) (2 taels). Baifen (White Powder, likely Lead Carbonate or similar, *Baifen*) (1 tael). Baimi (White Honey, *Baimi*) (4 taels).
Take the above three ingredients. Add three sheng of water. First decoct Gancao (Licorice Root), reduce to two sheng. Strain out the dregs. Add Baifen (White Powder) and Baimi (White Honey). Stir and mix well. Decoct until the consistency resembles thin porridge. Take one sheng warm.
Recovery.
The verse states: Heart pain and excessive salivation caused by roundworms; frequent attacks with toxic drugs do not relieve pain. One tael of White Powder, two taels of Licorice, four taels of Honey.
Decoction requires attention to sequence.
Note: Baifen (Lead Powder) is effective at killing parasites. Here it is mixed within Gancao (Licorice Root) and Baimi (White Honey). The strong sweetness masks its inherent toxicity/nature. This is known as first enticing the parasite, then attacking it.
