Li Dongyuan stated: Although there is a saying that treating dampness requires promoting diuresis, if dampness enters from the exterior into the interior, using moist-draining and diuretic agents to eliminate it is lowering again after having lowered, exhausting yang qi, and thereby increasing yin. Therefore, using wind herbs that raise yang will lead to recovery. The general principle states: "When dampness prevails excessively, one must assist with wind herbs to pacify it." I believe that using wind herbs for dampness disease is to assist ascending and floating qi to move stagnant dampness, not to defeat dampness with wind. Furthermore, when dampness is located in the upper part or on the exterior, it often accompanies wind qi; only sweating can remove it. Are Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), and Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) wind-dispelling substances capable of performing the task of moving dampness?
