According to records, infants suffering from smallpox has been a long-standing issue. Since the Song Dynasty, a method of "induced smallpox" (Yin Dou) emerged. This involved blowing smallpox matter into the nasal cavity, allowing it to transmit sequentially through the five Zang organs, guiding the toxin to exit outward. This can be described as a method with rapid results and significant efficacy. However, it still cannot guarantee absolute safety or perfection; it is excellent but not yet flawless. In Guangdong, there is a method of cowpox inoculation, introduced from overseas. This method uses cowpox as the vaccine, likely inspired by observing the prescription for preventing smallpox using white cattle lice recorded in *Bencao Gangmu* (Compendium of Materia Medica). Regarding the inoculation technique, it selects acupoints from the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian, specifically named "Xiaoshuo" and "Qinglengyuan". According to ancient acupuncture methods, a sharp knife is used to pierce the skin membrane, and the smallpox fluid is applied to the point. Once the pustule fills and the scab falls off, all follow the normal cycle, permanently eliminating the risk of recurrence. The reason for this is that the smallpox toxin is inherited congenitally and deeply hidden in the Kidney. The Qi of the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao is formless and communicates with the Qi of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney. The *Neijing* states: "Shaoyang governs diseases generated by the Kidney," and also: "Shaoyang is affiliated with the Kidney." When the smallpox fluid enters via the Hand Shaoyang Meridian, it can directly reach the Kidney Meridian, drawing out the deep-seated toxins from the Kidneys, and then expelling them back through the acupoints of the Hand Shaoyang Meridian. Therefore, the number of lesions corresponds exactly to the number of punctures, without generating complications. Furthermore, no herbal medicine is required, and the child's diet and play remain normal. This is truly infallible. Compared to the nasal blowing technique, is this not even more perfect? Upon my appointment in Yanjing, I witnessed this method and admired it. Worrying that the technique might not spread widely, I recorded it specifically to append it to the end of the classics, so it may be transmitted to the world and future generations. This is indeed my humble intention to protect children.
(Note: Volumes 23 to 25 of *Jinkui Yaolue* were judged by former sages to be later additions. Deleting them to prevent confusion between genuine and spurious content certainly demonstrates unique insight. However, deleting them entirely might leave those fond of ancient texts regretting incompleteness. It is better to temporarily preserve these theories for reference. Here, their original text is recorded without any annotations to distinguish them.)
**Formula for Reducing Deficient Heat of the Five Zang Organs and Adjusting Bupleurum Drink according to Seasons:**
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) [Note: Text says Chaihu/Bupleuri Radix, correction based on context "Chaihu Yinzi"] -> Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, 柴胡) (8 fen) Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术) (8 fen) Arecae Pericarpium (Dafubinglang, 大腹槟榔) (4 pieces, including peel and seed) Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi, 陈皮) (5 fen) Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma (Shengjiang, 生姜) (5 fen) Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng, 桔梗) (7 fen)
For the three winter months, use slightly more Bupleuri Radix.
Bupleuri Radix Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Arecae Pericarpium Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma Platycodonis Radix Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhishi, 枳实)
For the three spring months, reduce Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma compared to winter, and add Aurantii Fructus Immaturus.
Bupleuri Radix Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma Arecae Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma Platycodonis Radix Aurantii Fructus Immaturus Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草)
For the three summer months, add Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma compared to spring, retaining Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma.
Bupleuri Radix Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma Arecae Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma Platycodonis Radix
For the three autumn months, same as winter, but with slightly more Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium.
All ingredients are chopped and divided into three doses. One dose is boiled with three sheng of water to obtain two sheng, taken warm in three portions. Administer every time a person walks four or five li. If the four limbs feel congested, add a little Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma. Divide each dose into three small portions. Each small portion is boiled with one sheng of water to obtain seven ge, taken warm. Combine the dregs for another boil, resulting in four total servings.
**Long-term Consumption Heleli Pill Formula:**
Terminalia Chebulae Fructus (Helile, 诃黎勒) (3 liang) Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (3 liang) Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Nongpo, 浓朴) (3 liang)
The above three ingredients are powdered, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of mulberry seeds. Take 20 pills with wine, increasing to 30 pills.
**Sanwu Beiji Pill Formula:**
Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang, 大黄) (1 liang) Crotonis Fructus (Badou, 巴豆) (1 liang, peeled, core removed, roasted and ground into paste) Zingiberis Rhizoma Siccum (Ganjiang, 干姜) (2 liang)
The above medicines must be fresh and pure. First, grind Rhei Radix et Rhizoma and Zingiberis Rhizoma Siccum into powder. Grind Crotonis Fructus into it and process together for one thousand beats to make a powder. Mixing with honey to form pills is also good. Store in a sealed container to prevent gas leakage. It treats various sudden abdominal and cardiac disorders. For poisoning or evil qi invasion causing abdominal distension, sudden pain like needle pricks, shortness of breath, locked jaw, or sudden death (Shi Jue), take 3-4 pills the size of soybeans with warm water or sour vinegar. If the medicine does not descend, lift the head and pour it down; recovery should occur shortly. If not recovered, give three more pills. Bowel sounds should be heard, followed by vomiting or purging, leading to recovery. If the jaw is locked, teeth must be pried open to administer.
**Zishi Hanshi San Formula for Treating Shanghan to Cure and Prevent Recurrence:**
Fluorite Rubra (Zishiyingshi, 紫石英) (10 parts) Fluorite Alba (Baishiyingshi, 白石英) (10 parts) Halloysitum Rubrum (Chishizhi, 赤石脂) (10 parts) Concha Arcae (Zhongru, 钟乳) (10 parts) Trogopterori Excrement (Gualougen, 栝蒌根 - Note: Text says Gualougen which is Trichosanthes Root, usually Tianhuafen, but listed here as part of formula) (10 parts) Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) (10 parts) Platycodonis Radix (10 parts) Clam Shell (Wenge, 文蛤) (10 parts) Podophylli Rhizoma et Radix (Guijiu, 鬼臼) (10 parts) Kaolin (Taiyi Yuliang, 太乙余粮) (10 parts) Zingiberis Rhizoma Siccum (Ganjiang, 干姜) Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi, 附子) Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 桂枝) (peeled, 4 parts each)
The above thirteen ingredients are pounded into a powder. Take one cunbi with wine.
**Emergency Rescue for Sudden Death:**
Crush Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus (Xie, 薤) and extract juice to instill into the nasal cavity.
Another prescription:
Cut the comb blood of a rooster, blow it into the nasal cavity using a tube.
Pig lard the size of a chicken egg, mixed with one sheng of sour vinegar, boiled and poured into the throat.
Apply chicken liver and blood to the face, surround with ash; immediate revival.
Fourteen soybeans, mixed with egg white and wine, swallowed completely.
**Rescue for Sudden Death with High Fever:**
Alumen (Fanshi, 矾石) half jin, dissolved in fifteen dou of water, soak feet up to the ankles.
**Rescue for Sudden Death with Closed Eyes:**
Straddle a cow facing the deceased's face, crush Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus juice and instill into ears. Blow Powder of Sophorae Flos (Saojiao, 皂角) into the nose; immediate effect.

**Rescue for Infant Sudden Death with Vomiting and Diarrhea, Etiology Unknown:**
One pill of dog feces, squeeze juice and administer. If dry, boil in water to extract juice.
**Shi Jue (Corpse Revival) with Pulse Movement but No Breath:**
Qi blockage causes stillness and apparent death. Treatment:
Insert powder of Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii (Changpu, 菖蒲) into the nasal cavity and blow. Place powder of Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 桂枝) under the tongue.
Another prescription:
Take one square cun of hair from the left temple, burn to ash, mix with wine, and pour into the throat; immediate revival.
**Huanhun Tang for Sudden Death due to Evil Invasion:**
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) (3 liang, nodes removed) Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, 杏仁) (17 seeds, peeled and cores removed) Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (1 liang, roasted)
The above three ingredients are boiled in eight sheng of water to obtain three sheng. Strain and allow patient to swallow gradually. Treats all cases of evil invasion.
Another prescription:
Radix Allii Tuberosi (Jiu Gen, 韭根) (one handful) Pruni Mume Fructus (Wumei, 乌梅) (3-7 pieces) Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) (half sheng, roasted)
Boil the above three in ten dou of water. Boil the patient's comb in it for three boils. If the comb floats, the patient lives; if it sinks, the patient dies. Decoct to three sheng, strain, and drink gradually.
**Rescue for Hanging Death:**
Death from morning to evening, though cold, is treatable. Death from evening to morning is harder, likely due to excess Yin. However, in summer when nights are short and hot, it is still treatable. If the chest is slightly warm, even after a day, it is treatable.
Slowly untie the rope; do not cut it. Lay the body on bedding. One person steps on both shoulders, gently pulling the hair taut. Another person presses and rubs the chest repeatedly. Another person massages and extends the arms and legs. If stiff, gently force flexion and extension while pressing the abdomen. After about the time it takes to cook a meal, breath exits the mouth, breathing resumes, eyes open. Continue holding and pressing, do not release. Do not exhaust the patient. Shortly after, give a small amount of Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) and rice gruel to moisten the throat, allowing gradual swallowing. If two people blow air into both ears using tubes, this is the best method, ensuring survival.
**Rescue for Poisoning/Exhaustion Death:**
Do not let the body get cold; cold leads to death. Treatment:
Wrap a bent grass belt around the navel. Have one or two persons urinate into it to warm it. Alternatively, use hot mud mixed with bent grass, or press a heated clay bowl bottom or wheel hub against the navel to allow urine flow. This is for emergency situations without hot water. Urine should be warm. Mud and wheel hubs are cold, but in summer, hot mud or warmed wheel hubs can be used.
**Rescue for Drowning:**
Bury the body in over two dan of kiln ash from head to foot. Water will discharge from the seven orifices, and life returns. Tested on flies drowned in water; burying them in kiln ash revived them.
**Treatment for Horse Falls and All Bone/Tendon Injuries:**
Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang, 大黄) (1 liang, sliced, added when decoction is ready) Burnt Crimson Silk (Feibo, 绯帛) (palm-sized, burnt to ash) Burnt Human Hair (Luankua, 乱发) (egg-sized, burnt to ash) Burnt Old Cooking Cloth (Chuandan Bu, 炊单布) (one chi, burnt to ash) Burnt Mat Grass (Baipu, 败蒲) (one handful, 3 cun pieces) Peach Kernel (Taoren, 桃仁) (49 seeds, peeled, cores removed, roasted) Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (size of middle finger joint, roasted and chopped)
Decoct the above seven ingredients in urine from a young boy according to quantity. Add one large cup of wine, then add Rhei Radix et Rhizoma. Strain and take warm in three doses. First, decoct half a mat made of Baipu for bathing. Cover with clothes and blankets for a moment. After several bowel movements, pain relieves immediately. Reddish discharge and bathwater are due to blood stasis.
