Pediatric diseases caused by food stagnation and phlegm-heat damaging milk intake generally involve disorders of the Liver and Spleen.
Disorders of the Liver are common in children, as they are in adults. The Liver typically presents with excess (Shi syndrome); the Kidney typically presents with deficiency (Xu syndrome).
Sanleng (Rhizoma Sparganii), Ezhu (Rhizoma Curcumae), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Qingpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), Maiya (Fructus Hordei Germinatus), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Fuling (Poria), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis). Grind the above herbs into fine powder and take with water.
For vomiting and diarrhea due to damaged milk intake, add Shanzha (Fructus Crataegi). For vomiting and diarrhea due to seasonal qi pathogens, add Huashi (Talcum). For fever, add Bohe (Herba Menthae).
For vomiting and diarrhea, Yiyuan San (Beneficial Prime Powder) can be used. The five tonifying and five purgative formulas of Qian Shi (Qian Yi) are all applicable.
Fever, mouth ulcers, latent heat in the palms, phlegm-heat, phlegmatic wheezing, phlegmatic cough.
All should be treated with the "Unblocking" method (methods to purge pathogenic factors via emesis or catharsis); for severe cases, Gouti San (Melon Stalk Powder) is used; for mild cases, a powder of Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis) and Chixiaodou (Semen Phaseoli) is used. It must be taken mixed with juice from pickled sour vegetables. After vomiting, Tongsheng San (Universal Salvation Powder) honey pills should be taken.
There are two types of convulsions: one is due to phlegm-heat, manifesting as acute convulsion (Ji Jing Feng), which should be directly purged and cleared; the other is due to Spleen deficiency, manifesting as chronic convulsion (Man Jing Feng), which has a poor prognosis and requires nourishing the Spleen.
Li Dongyuan stated: For chronic convulsion, first strengthen the Earth (Spleen), then disperse wind pathogens.
For acute cases, only use methods to descend fire, resolve phlegm, and nourish blood.
For chronic cases, only use Zhusha Anshen Wan (Cinnabar Calming Spirit Pill), seeking efficacy within blood-nourishing prescriptions.

Grind the above into fine powder, decoct Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) soup to make a paste, and form pills the size of a chestnut. Take one or two pills per dose. For acute convulsion, take with Bohe (Mint) decoction; for chronic convulsion, take with Jiegeng (Platycodon) and Baizhu (Atractylodes) decoction.
