The meridians with abundant Qi and Blood must be remembered: the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian and the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian.
There are six meridians with scanty Blood and abundant Qi: the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao (Triple Burner) Meridian, the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian, the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian, and the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian.
The meridian with abundant Blood and scanty Qi is the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian; the others are the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian, and the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian.
Lung Meridian as Master, Large Intestine Meridian as Guest:
The Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian has abundant Qi and scanty Blood. Symptoms include chest and heart Qi distension, heat in the palm, asthma, coughing, and unbearable pain in the suprascapular region (Quepen), swelling and dryness of the throat, abnormal sweating, pain in the anterior-medial shoulder and between the two breasts, phlegm accumulation in the diaphragm causing a sensation of air deficiency, and diseases generated by this meridian. Which acupoints should be selected? The Yuan-Source point Taiyuan (LU9) and the Luo-Connecting point Pianli (LI6) can guide you.
One may needle the Yuan-Source point of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian (The Yuan-Source point is Taiyuan (LU9), where the Lung Meridian passes. It is located at the radial end of the transverse crease on the palmar side of the wrist, corresponding to the pulse at Cun Kou). Subsequently, needle the Luo-Connecting point of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian (The Luo-Connecting point is Pianli (LI6), three cun above the wrist crease, diverging to connect with the Taiyin Meridian).
Large Intestine Meridian as Master, Lung Meridian as Guest:
The Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian runs alongside the nostrils. Symptoms include facial pain, toothache, swelling of the cheeks, yellowing of the eyes, dry mouth, runny clear nose or epistaxis, bi-syndrome of the throat, unbearable pain in the anterior shoulder, and the thumb and index finger being governed as one unit. Selecting Hegu (LI4) and Lieque (LU7) is miraculous; needling these two points generally treats such diseases.
One may needle the Yuan-Source point of the Hand-Yangming Large Intintestine Meridian (The Yuan-Source point is Hegu (LI4), where the Large Intestine Meridian passes, between the metacarpal bones). Subsequently, needle the Luo-Connecting point of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian (The Luo-Connecting point is Lieque (LU7), one and a half cun above the lateral wrist crease, crossing where the index finger extends, diverging to connect with the Yangming Meridian).
