Song of Taboos for the Nine Palaces and Koushen (Buttock Deity)
The Kun position corresponds to the ankle; the Zhen position corresponds to the fingers, teeth, and upper area; the Xun position corresponds to the head, breasts, and mouth; the Dui position corresponds to the face, back, eyes, dry areas, hands, and arms; the Gen position corresponds to the neck, waist, knees, and ribs; the Li position corresponds to the elbows, feet, and abdomen, cycling in rotation.
Diagram of Taboos for the Nine Palaces and Koushen
This method was established by Shennong. The rule is: in the first year, it starts from the Kun position; in the second year, from the Zhen position; proceeding annually in a clockwise flight through the Nine Palaces, repeating cyclically. At the location reached by the passing year, the corresponding body part governed must be strictly avoided for acupuncture and moxibustion; if mistakenly violated, it may lightly cause carbuncles and sores, or severely lead to death. Take heed!
Song of Taboos for Human Spirits in Nine Regions
In the first year, the spirit is at the umbilicus; in the second, at the heart; in the third, reaching the elbow; in the fourth, at the throat; in the fifth, at the mouth; in the sixth, at the head; in the seventh, at the spine; in the eighth, at the knees; in the ninth, at the feet. Count sequentially in rotation; these locations are taboo for acupuncture and moxibustion.

Do not treat the head on Jia days; the throat on Yi days; the shoulder on Bing days; the heart on Ding days; the abdomen on Wu and Ji days; the waist on Geng days; the knees on Xin days; the [kidneys/feet] on Ren days...
The above avoidances largely do not conform to the principles of *Suwen* (Basic Questions), but are theories of later diviners. Only the seasonal avoidances align with *Suwen*. It suffices to avoid these, along with Koushen and daily human spirits. However, in cases of acute illness, there is no need to avoid even human spirits and Koushen.
