Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian
The Well point of the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian is Shaoshang (LU 11).
When a person suffers from abdominal distension, wheezing and coughing, pain in the supraclavicular fossa (Quepen), irritability, heat in the palms, pain in the shoulder and back, and sore throat with swelling, it is because the meridian passes through the diaphragm into the lungs, crosses horizontally past the axilla (Yunmen, Tianfu), and descends through Chize (LU 5) to reach Shaoshang (LU 11). Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Shaoshang (LU 11) of the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian, located on the radial side of the thumb near the corner of the nail. Insert to a depth of one fen, perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation (twisting or lifting-thrusting six times), employing the Great Puncture method (needling the opposite side: left for right symptoms, right for left symptoms), retaining the needle for the duration of a meal. Alternatively, moxibustion of three moxa cones may be applied.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian
The Well point of the Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian is Shangyang (LI 1).
When a person suffers from qi stagnation and fullness, tight pain in the chest, irritability and heat, continuous wheezing, and rapid breathing, it is because the meridian enters the supraclavicular fossa from the shoulder tip and connects with the lungs; its branch rises straight up from the supraclavicular fossa along the neck. Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Shangyang (LI 1) of the Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian, located at the radial corner of the nail of the index finger. Insert to a depth of one fen, perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation, employing the Great Puncture method (left for right, right for left), retaining the needle for the duration of a meal. Alternatively, moxibustion of three moxa cones may be applied.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian
The Well point of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian is Lidui (ST 45).
When a person suffers from stifling sensation in the heart and abdomen, aversion to fire/light, palpitations upon hearing noise, epistaxis, cracked lips, malaria, mania, foot pain, abdominal distension resembling drum (Qi Gu), sores and scabies, and cold teeth, it is because the meridian originates at the lateral side of the nose (Yingxiang), intersects at the root of the nose, descends along the lateral side of the nose, enters the upper gum, emerges to circle the lips, and intersects at Chengjiang (CV 24). It then follows the posterior aspect of the jaw downwards, emerges at Daying (ST 5), follows Jiache (ST 6), and ascends to the front of the ear. Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Lidui (ST 45) of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian, located at the lateral corner of the nail of the second toe, approximately the width of a leek leaf where the nail meets the flesh. Insert to a depth of one fen, perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation, left for right.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian
The Well point of the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian is Yinbai (SP 1).
When a person suffers from corpse-like syncope (Shi Jue - sudden collapse resembling death) or sudden death, with pulses still beating like those of a normal person, but due to Yin excess in the upper body causing pathogenic factors to accumulate upwards, rebellious Qi, chaotic Yang Qi, and blockage of the five collaterals leading to stagnation and obstruction, the condition resembles corpse-like syncope with moving pulses but unconsciousness. This occurs when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian, Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian, Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian, Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, and Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. These five collaterals are critical to life.
First, needle the Well point Yinbai (SP 1) of the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian; second, needle Yongquan (KI 1) of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian; third, needle Lidui (ST 45) of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian; fourth, needle Shaoshang (LU 11) of the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian; fifth, needle Shaochong (HT 9) of the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian. For these five Well points, insert to a depth of two fen, performing the "Six Yin Number" manipulation on both sides. If not cured, needle Shenmen (HT 7); if still not cured, blow air into both ears using a bamboo tube, blocking the mouth of the tube with a finger to prevent leakage, blowing as hard as possible until the meridians unblock, repeating this extreme blowing three times per ear. For severe cases, apply moxibustion of three cones to Weihui (Baihui, GV 20). Needle anteriorly and posteriorly to a depth of two fen, perform sedation twice, then apply moxibustion.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian
The Well point of the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian is Shaochong (HT 9).
When a person suffers from heart pain, irritability and thirst, arm jue (coldness or pain in the arm), hypochondriac pain, stifling heat in the heart, dementia and forgetfulness, epilepsy, and mania, it is because the meridian originates in the heart, its branch runs alongside the throat from the heart system, emerges posterior to the pisiform bone, goes straight from the lung, travels along the medial aspect of the axilla, follows the medial elbow down the arm, reaches the wrist passing through Shenmen (HT 7), and enters Shaochong (HT 9).
One may needle the Well point Shaochong (HT 9) of the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian, located on the ulnar side of the little finger near the corner of the nail, approximately the width of a leek leaf. Insert to a depth of one fen, perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation, right for left. If applying moxibustion, use cone-sized grains of wheat, three cones. If not cured, needle Shenmen (HT 7) again.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian
The Well point of the Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian is Shaoze (SI 1).
When a person suffers from swelling of the jaw, stiffness of the neck making it difficult to look back, shoulders feeling as if being pulled out, elbows feeling as if broken, pain in the elbow and arm, and pain on the lateral side, it is because the meridian originates at the little finger, passes from Shaoze (SI 1) through Qiangu (SI 2), ascends along the medial aspect of the arm to the shoulder, enters the supraclavicular fossa, heads towards the axilla, connects with the heart, follows the pharynx down through the diaphragm to the stomach; its branch rises from the supraclavicular fossa to the neck and cheek, reaches the outer canthus, enters the ear, follows the cheek into the nose, and obliquely crosses the zygoma. Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Shaoze (SI 1) of the Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian, located on the ulnar side of the little finger where the nail meets the flesh, approximately the width of a leek leaf. Insert to a depth of one fen, perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation, left for right. If applying moxibustion, use cone-sized grains of wheat, three cones.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian
The Well point of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian is Zhiyin (BL 67).
When a person suffers from pain in the head, neck, shoulder, back, waist, and eyes, spinal pain, hemorrhoids, malaria, epilepsy, yellow eyes with tearing, and epistaxis, it is because the main pathway of the meridian emerges from the brain, descends separately to the neck; its branches descend separately from the inner arms; and its collaterals ascend, following the forehead to the vertex. Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Zhiyin (BL 67) of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian, located on the lateral side of the little toe, approximately the width of a leek leaf. Perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation. If not cured, needle Jinmen (BL 63) to a depth of five fen, apply moxibustion of three cones; if still not cured, needle Shenmai (BL 62) to a depth of three fen, recovery occurs after walking the distance of ten li. In cases of falling injuries with blood stasis retained in the abdomen, causing fullness and inability to walk, first administer purgative medicine, then bleed the vessels anterior to RanGu (KI 2) for immediate relief. If not cured, needle Chongyang (ST 42) to a depth of three fen (Source point of the Stomach Meridian) and Dazhuan (LR 1) until bleeding occurs (Well point of the Liver Meridian).
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian
The Well point of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian is Yongquan (KI 1).
When a person suffers from sudden heart pain, acute abdominal distension, and fullness supporting the chest and hypochondrium, it is because the meridian penetrates the liver and diaphragm, entering the interior of the heart. Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Yongquan (KI 1) of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, located in the depression of the sole of the foot. Insert to a depth of three fen, perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation until bleeding occurs, which induces immediate hunger and desire to eat. Employ the Great Puncture method (left for right). For chronic conditions newly exacerbated, needling will cure within five days, or apply moxibustion of three cones.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian
The Well point of the Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian is Zhongchong (PC 9).
When a person suffers from sudden heart pain, heat in the palms, chest fullness and distension, hand spasms and arm pain preventing flexion and extension, swelling in the axilla, red face and yellow eyes, excessive laughter, it is because the meridian originates in the chest, belongs to the Pericardium, descends through the diaphragm to connect with the Sanjiao; its branch emerges from the chest to the hypochondrium, about three cun below the axilla, ascending to Tianchi (PC 1); another branch from Tianchi ascends to the axilla, emerges three cun below Yuanye (GB 22), enters the chest, passes through the Pericardium, descends through the diaphragm to connect with the Sanjiao. Its branch emerges from the palm, follows the ring finger, passes through Guanchong (SJ 1). Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Zhongchong (PC 9) of the Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian, located at the medial end of the middle finger, approximately the width of a leek leaf from the nail. Insert to a depth of one fen, perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation, left for right, retaining the needle for the duration of a meal. If applying moxibustion, three cones of cone-sized grains of wheat may be used.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian
The Well point of the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian is Guanchong (SJ 1).
When a person suffers from deafness, headache, blurry and painful eyes, elbow pain, and severe pain in the interscapular region behind the heart, it is because the meridian ascends the arm, passes through the lateral aspect of the elbow, follows the shoulder, crosses above the Shaoyang meridian, enters the supraclavicular fossa, distributes in the Danzhong (Conception Vessel), disperses in the Pericardium, and descends through the diaphragm to connect with the Sanjiao; its branch emerges from the Danzhong, ascends the neck and post-auricular area, enters the ear directly; another branch from the post-auricular area descends to the cheek, reaching the infraorbital region. Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Guanchong (SJ 1) of the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian, located between the ring finger and little finger, approximately the width of a leek leaf from the nail. Insert to a depth of one fen, right for left, retaining the needle for the duration of a meal. If three cones of moxibustion do not cure it, needle Zhongzhu (TE 3), the Shu-Stream point of the Shaoyang Meridian.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian
The Well point of the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian is Xiaoxi (GB 43).
When a person suffers from pain in the chest, hypochondrium, and feet, facial numbness and stiffness, headache and eye pain, swelling and sweating in the supraclavicular and axillary regions, stiff goiter in the neck, and alternating chills and fever in malaria, it is because the branch of the meridian descends from the outer canthus to Daying (ST 5), joins the Hand Shaoyang meridian at the neck, descends past Jiache (ST 6), goes down the neck to join the supraclavicular fossa, descends into the chest, crosses the diaphragm, connects with the Liver, and belongs to the Gallbladder, following the hypochondrium. Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Xiaoxi (GB 43) of the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, located between the fourth toe and the flesh, approximately the width of a leek leaf. Insert to a depth of one fen, perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation, left for right, retaining the needle for the duration of a meal. Moxibustion of three cones may be applied.
Well (Jing-Well) Points of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian
The Well point of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian is Dadun (LR 1).
When a person suffers from sudden hernia and acute pain, as well as acute pain winding around the umbilicus above and below, it is because the Liver collateral goes five cun above the medial malleolus and diverges to the Shaoyang meridian; its branch ascends along the tibia to the testis, converging at the penis. Therefore, when pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian, these diseases arise.
One may needle the Well point Dadun (LR 1) of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian, located at the tip of the great toe. Perform the "Six Yin Number" manipulation, left for right. For chronic conditions recurring, needling will cure within three days. If applying moxibustion, five cones may be applied.
