Du Meridian (Governing Vessel)
When a person suffers from stiffness and pain in the spine and back, epilepsy, heat in the back center, manic running, spirit possession (psychiatric abnormalities), eye pain, and soreness and pain at the Dazhui (GV14) bone, this is because the Du Meridian originates at the Xiaji (Huiyin, CV1) and ascends along the spine to the Fengfu (GV16) acupoint. It starts at the Weili (Changqiang, GV1) and if disease arises here, one may needle the Renzhong (DU26) acupoint of the Du Meridian. Located in the depression below the nasal column near the nostrils, insert the needle four fen deep; moxibustion is also permissible, but is less effective than needling. It is highly effective for coma, dizziness, epilepsy, and mania.
Ren Meridian (Conception Vessel)
When a person suffers from seven types of hernia and eight types of mass formations, disharmony of cold and warmth, sores and ulcers on the mouth and tongue, and stiffness and pain in the head and neck, this is because the Ren Meridian originates below the Zhongji (CV3) acupoint, ascends through the pubic hair region, follows the abdomen, reaches the Guanyuan (CV4) acupoint, goes up to the Tiantu (CV22) acupoint in the throat, passes through the Chengjiang (CV24) acupoint, and generates these diseases. One may needle the Chengjiang (CV24) acupoint of the Ren Meridian, located in the depression between the beard hairs. Insert the needle three cun (using the patient's own body measurements) deep. Apply moxibustion for seven moxa cones, up to a maximum of forty-nine cones.
The Du Meridian originates from the Xiaji (Huiyin, CV1), runs alongside the spinal interior to ascend to Fengfu (GV16), passes through the brain, forehead, and nasal bridge to enter Yinjiao (GV28). It is the general outline of the Sea of Yang Meridians. The Ren Meridian originates from the bottom of Zhongji (CV3), ascends through the abdomen, follows the throat to Chengjiang (CV24), and is called the Sea of Yin Meridians, associated with pregnancy. The Chong Meridian (Penetrating Vessel) emerges from the Baozhong (uterus/womb), ascends along the middle of the spine, meets the throat from the abdomen, and connects to the lips. In women, it forms the Blood Chamber for menstruation; this meridian runs together with the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. These three meridians (Ren, Du, Chong) originate from the intersection at the Yin region, start together but follow different paths. The Yang Qiao Meridian originates inside the heel, follows the lateral malleolus upward to enter Fengchi (GB20). The Yin Qiao Meridian follows the medial malleolus upward to the throat; it is originally a branch of the Foot-Shaoyin and Foot-Taiyang meridians. The Jueyin intersection gives rise to the Yin Wei Meridian (Linking Vessel), originating from the Zhubin (KI9) acupoint of the Foot-Shaoyin Meridian. The Huayang intersection gives rise to the Yang Wei Meridian (Linking Vessel), originating from the Jinmen (BL63) acupoint of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. The Dai Meridian (Belt Vessel) circles between the costal margins and intersects with other meridians at the Weidao (GB26) acupoint of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. These are the Eight Extraordinary Vessels, which link and connect the regular meridians to ensure smooth circulation.
The Du Meridian originates from the central part of the bones below the lower abdomen. In women, it enters and connects to the Tingkong (external urethral orifice); this opening is the end of the urinary passage. Its collateral network follows the genitalia, converges at the Cuajian (perineum), winds around the posterior perineum, separately winds around the buttocks, reaches the Shaoyin Meridian, and combines with the middle collateral of the Juyang (Foot-Taiyang Bladder) Meridian at the Shaoyin Meridian. It ascends along the posterior inner aspect of the thigh, penetrates the spine, and attaches to the Kidneys. It combines with the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, which starts at the inner canthus of the eye, ascends to the forehead, crosses at the vertex, enters to connect with the brain, re-emerges, descends separately to the nape, follows the shoulder blades internally, flanks the spine to reach the waist center, enters to follow the paraspinal muscles and connects with the Kidneys. In men, it follows the penis down to the perineum, identical to women. The portion rising straight from the lower abdomen penetrates the center of the umbilicus, ascends through the Heart, enters the throat, ascends to the chin, circles the lips, and ascends to tie the center under both eyes. The Du Meridian originates at the Xiaji (Huiyin, CV1), runs alongside the spinal interior, ascends to Fengfu (GV16), enters the brain and reaches the vertex, follows the forehead to the nasal column, and belongs to the Sea of Yang Meridians. Its pathological manifestations include stiff spine and厥逆 (cold extremities/fainting). There are twenty-seven acupoints in total. See acupoints listed previously.
The Ren Meridian and Chong Meridian both originate from the Baozhong (womb/uterus), ascend along the spinal interior, and serve as the Sea of the Collateral Meridians. Those that float outwardly ascend along the abdomen, meet at the throat, and branch out to connect to the lips and mouth. When blood and Qi are abundant, the muscles feel hot. When blood is particularly abundant, it seeps into the skin and generates fine hair. Women have an excess of Qi but a deficiency of Blood because their menstrual flow occurs frequently, thus injuring both the Ren and Chong Meridians. Because the Qi of the Ren and Chong Meridians does not nourish the lips and mouth, beards do not grow.
The Ren Meridian originates below the Zhongji (CV3) acupoint, ascends to the pubic hair margin, follows the interior of the abdomen, passes through Guanyuan (CV4), reaches the throat, and belongs to the Sea of Yin Meridians. Its pathological manifestations involve painful internal knotting; in men, it manifests as seven types of hernia, and in women, as mass formations. There are twenty-four acupoints in total. See acupoints listed previously.
The Chong Meridian, like the Ren Meridian, originates from the Baozhong (womb/uterus), ascends along the spinal interior, and serves as the Sea of the Collateral Meridians. Those floating outwardly ascend along the abdomen, meet at the throat, and branch out to connect to the lips and mouth; therefore, it is said that the Chong Meridian originates from the Qichong (ST30) acupoint, runs parallel with the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, flanks the umbilicus upward, and disperses in the chest. Its pathological manifestations cause Qi rebellion and abdominal urgency. The *Nan Jing* states that it runs parallel with the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. Based on acupoint locations, the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian runs two cun to the left and right of the umbilicus ascending. The Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian runs one cun to the left and right of the umbilicus ascending. According to the *Zhen Jing* (Needling Classic), the Chong, Ren, and Du Meridians all originate from the Huiyin (CV1) acupoint. In the abdomen, they travel through the Youmen (KI15), Tonggu (KI16), Yindu (KI17), Shiguan (KI18), Shangqu (KI19), Huangshu (KI16 - note: text says Huangshu but standard is Huangshu KI16 or similar, context implies KI channel points), Zhongzhu (KI20), Siman (KI21), Qixue (KI22), Dahe (KI23), and Henggu (KI24). These twenty-two acupoints all belong to the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian distribution. Thus, it is clear that the Chong Meridian runs parallel with the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian.

The Dai Meridian (Belt Vessel) originates from the costal margin and circles the body once. Its pathological manifestations include abdominal fullness and a loose, weak sensation in the waist, as if sitting in water. The acupoints where its Qi emerges are named Dai Mai (Dai Meridian) because it circles the body once like a belt. It also intersects with the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian at the Dai Mai (GB26), Wushu (GB27), and Weidao (GB28) acupoints. This is the Dai Meridian...

The Yang Qiao Meridian originates in the middle of the heel, follows the lateral malleolus upward, and enters Fengchi (GB20). Its pathological manifestations cause relaxation of the Yin side and tension of the Yang side. The Qiao Meridians of both feet are originally branches of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, combining with the Foot-Taiyang. Their Qi ascends; when the Qi of both sides returns and merges, it moistens the eyes. If Qi does not nourish, the eyes cannot close. For men, count the Yang side; for women, count the Yin side. The ones counted are the Jing (Regular) vessels, and those not counted are the Luo (Collateral) vessels. The Qiao Meridians are eight chi long. The acupoints where they emerge originate at Shenmai (BL62), root at Puxen (BL60), mark at Fuyang (BL59), intersect with the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian at Juliao (GB29), intersect with the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian at Jianyu (LI15) and Jugu (SI10), intersect with the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and Yang Wei Meridian at Tianliao (SI16), intersect with the Hand and Foot Yangming Meridians at Dicang (ST4) and Juliao (ST3), and intersect with the Ren Meridian and Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian at Chengqi (ST1). There are twenty acupoints in total.

The Yin Qiao Meridian also originates in the middle of the heel, follows the medial malleolus upward to the throat, and intersects with the Chong Meridian. Its pathological manifestations cause relaxation of the Yang side and tension of the Yin side. Therefore, it is said: The Qiao Meridian is a branch of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, originating behind RanGu (KI2), ascending above the medial malleolus, going straight up the Yin thigh, entering the Yin region, ascending along the interior of the chest, entering the Supraclavicular Fossa (Quepen), ascending anterior to Yingchang (LI17), entering the nose, attaching to the inner canthus, and combining with the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. For women, this is the Jing (Regular) vessel; for men, this is the Luo (Collateral) vessel. The Qiao Meridians of both feet are eight chi long. The Xi-Cleft point of the Yin Qiao Meridian is at Jiaoxin (KI8). For diseases of the Yin Qiao Meridian, select this acupoint. There are four acupoints in total.
Zhaohai (Below medial malleolus KI6) Jiaoxin (Above medial malleolus KI8)
The Yang Wei Meridian links the Yang meridians. Its vessel originates from the meeting of all Yang meridians and, together with the Yin Wei Meridian, links and connects the whole body. If the Yang Wei cannot link the Yang, the body feels unstable and unable to control itself. The acupoints where its Qi emerges diverge from Jinmen (BL63), mark at Yangjiao (GB35), intersect with the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and Yang Qiao Meridian at Tianliao (SI16), intersect with the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian at Naohui (TE15), intersect with the Hand and Foot Shaoyang Meridians at Tianyou (TE16), and intersect with the Hand and Foot Shaoyang Meridians and Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian at Jianjing (GB21). In the head, it intersects with the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian at Yangbai (GB14), ascends to Boshen (GB13) and Linqi (GB15), Mu Chuang (GB16), Zhengying (GB17), Chengling (GB19), follows Naokong (GB20), descends to Fengchi (GB20) and Riyue (GB24). It intersects with the Du Meridian at Fengfu (GV16) and Yamen (GV15). Its pathological manifestations involve suffering from alternating chills and fever. There are thirty-two acupoints in total.

The Yin Wei Meridian links the Yin meridians. Its vessel originates from the intersection of all Yin meridians. If the Yin Wei cannot link the Yin, the person feels despondent and loses their will. The acupoints where its Qi emerge: the Xi-Cleft point of the Yin Wei Meridian is named Zhubin (KI9). It intersects with the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian at Fuai (SP16) and Daheng (SP15). It intersects with the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian at Fushé (SP13) and Qimen (LR14). It intersects with the Ren Meridian at Tiantu (CV22) and Lianquan (CV23). Its pathological manifestations involve suffering from heart pain. There are twelve acupoints in total.
