The Hegu (LI4) acupoint is first treated with the lifting method (reducing), followed by tonification; the Quchi (LI11) acupoint is treated with pressing and scraping to apply reduction without damaging healthy qi; bleeding from the Yemen (TE2) acupoint, combined with reduction and lifting at the Fuliou (KI7) acupoint, can direct rebellious Qi downward and relieve urgency.
Tonifying Yinlingquan (SP9) three times directs Qi downward; rotating the needle clockwise seven times at Guanyuan (CV4) serves as an auxiliary measure; subsequently selecting Yinjiao (CV7) and relying on guiding Qi downward can rapidly alleviate urgent urination.
At Baihui (GV20), located in the center, apply reduction, lifting, and scraping methods; the lifting and trembling techniques at Quchi (LI11) must be coordinated properly; bleeding should be performed at Weizhong (BL40) and Xingjian (LR2); Hegu (LI4) relies entirely on reduction and flashing-through meridian techniques.
For Taiyang disease presenting with spontaneous sweating that cannot be stopped, Hegu (LI4) is treated solely with internal reduction; Fuliou (KI7) is specifically used with tonification; Neiting (ST44) seeks efficacy through lifting and scraping within the reducing method.
Stiffness of the neck and unceasing head pain: when testing acupuncture, seek the Houxi (SI3) acupoint. Pain in the back, arms, shoulders, and mid-arm: needling Zhongzhu (TE3) is as valuable as ten thousand taels of gold. Unceasing pain in the abdomen and flanking the umbilicus: treating at Yinlingquan (SP9) resolves water-dampness concerns. Accumulation and cold retention in the stomach: select Zusanli (ST36). Chest pain: seek Daling (PC7). Pain extending to both hypochondria and Yanglingquan (GB34): pain in the waist and knees is cured via Weizhong (BL40). Gold is easy to obtain in this world, but these seven needle techniques are rarely mastered or preserved.
Observe the complexion, inspect the form and syndromes, determine which meridian is invaded by pathogenic factors; clearly apply tonification and reduction in needling; locate acupoints and distinguish floating and sunken pulses; follow the principles of upper-lower and smooth-reverse directions, and adjust needles according to the cold and heat of the four seasons. If a physician can ensure the smooth flow of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, myriad diseases will not invade.
Hundreds of types of pain arise in the abdomen; wind-pain affects the four extremities; thousands of sores and carbuncles invade the skin and pores. If one employs the profound and miraculous methods of medical artisans, only the Feiteng Huoshui Needle (Flying Dragon Water-Fire Needle) suffices. One needle can treat all five Zang organs; one needle attack can resolve whole-body pain; each needle regulates Yang meridians to tonify Yin meridians. In spring, needle shallowly; in autumn, needle deeply. Be calm, careful, and attentive in your search; understand the reverse and smooth aspects of Ying-Sui (Following and Opposing) tonification and reduction. The effectiveness of needling depends on the floating and sunken pulse qualities; its value is worth ten thousand times a thousand taels of gold. The subtlety of one acupoint can make ghosts and gods weep; how dare evil spirits dare to invade again? Although it may not resurrect the dead, where the golden needle reaches, pain often finds relief. This is the "Ode to Retaining the Needle" left by ten generations of enlightened physicians; ordinary people following ancient methods can also manifest divine efficacy.
Yesterday at the third watch of the night, just as noon arrived (metaphorical expression), pushing a cart through mud stirred up dust. If someone can comprehend the meaning of this phrase, five times five equals twenty-five (likely referring to a numerical principle or acupoint combination).
The six-day Ruyi (As-You-Wish) principle is profound and mysterious; secret lifting, thrusting, twisting, and搓 (rubbing) techniques are paramount. Following and opposing naturally regulate Ying and Wei Qi; the miraculous Feiteng needling was transmitted by sages. Upper and lower intersecting meridians distinguish left and right; numbers one, two, three, and four are the root. For those of normal constitution who understand this, the divine secrets of immortals should not be spoken lightly.
