Whenever acupuncture is performed and *Deqi* (arrival of qi) is achieved, if neither the needle body nor the needle tip moves, employ the fourteen techniques: rubbing (*Cuo*), following (*Xun*), circling (*Pan*), pressing (*An*), pushing (*Tui*), trembling (*Zhan*), searching (*Sou*), stroking (*Mo*), grasping (*She*), lifting (*Ti*), horizontal (*Heng*), clockwise (*Shun*), counter-clockwise (*Ni*), and shaking (*Yao*). Observe the movement of qi up and down to assess deficiency or excess. To guide qi upward, obstruct its downward pathway; to guide qi downward, obstruct its upward pathway. For advancing the needle, proceed from Chen hour to Si hour; for withdrawing the needle, proceed from Si hour to Chen hour. Advancing involves rotating the needle to the left, while withdrawing involves rotating it to the right; this constitutes left-right movement.
Whenever acupuncture is performed, flying qi reaches the "Guan" (barrier/level), with the needle body stationary and the needle tip moving. Employ left-right rubbing (*Cuo*), following (*Xun*), circling (*Pan*), pressing (*An*), pushing (*Tui*), trembling (*Zhan*), searching (*Sou*), stroking (*Mo*), horizontal (*Heng*), clockwise (*Shun*), counter-clockwise (*Ni*), shaking (*Yao*), as well as guiding qi up and down. At areas of discomfort, retract and manipulate the needle slowly and loosely, like steering a boat, gently adjusting left and right according to the flow of qi so that qi naturally intersects. Or, if qi is blocked throughout the entire body, the method applied is similar. If qi does not move, simply extend and lift the needle.
When treating cold and heat conditions via acupuncture, use the rubbing technique. Move inward or outward, resembling the motion of twisting thread, without rotating too widely or tightly to avoid causing muscle tension. After needling, regulate based on advancement and withdrawal. Rotating left generates heat, allowing heavenly qi to enter (inhaling through nose, exhaling through mouth); rotating right generates cold, allowing earthly qi to enter (inhaling through mouth, exhaling through nose, expelling heavenly qi). There are principles of entry and exit involved. Explained slowly, supplemented by the generative numbers of the Zang-Fu organs, prior experiences stand ready.
The human body embodies Yin-Yang and the Five Elements (*Er Wu*), with blood and qi circulating like heaven and earth. Why does neglect of nourishment lead to disharmony? Diseases arise, relying on physicians for salvation. Truly, the heart of Zhenren Qiongyao (Perfected One Qiongyao) is profound, thoroughly investigating medical principles, distinguishing the creation of major and collateral meridians, and skillfully applying ten methods using golden needles.
Following (*Xun*) makes qi arrive without pause; after flicking (*Tan*), closing the acupoint with the hand allows lifting and pressing (*Ti An*) to move qi up and down; scraping (*Gua*) achieves results in an instant. Because qi stagnation makes searching (*Sou*) effective, and when qi feels like ants crawling, trembling (*Zhan*) is used; for stagnant qi, stroking (*Mo*) is relied upon; for harmonizing or severing, rubbing and twisting (*Cuo Nian*) are employed.
The true subtleties of reinforcing and reducing (*Bu Xie*) via following and opposing (*Sui Ying*) lie in fineness and coarseness, which the world generally transmits. However, my ten methods are distinctly different; how can fine jade compare? This method saves people with miraculous effects, supporting life and extending longevity without end. Pass it to comrades to accumulate merit; in the Apricot Grove (TCM community), spring rain nourishes, and every branch blooms red.
