The method of the Ye Zhe Palace (the palace of Water in the North, corresponding to the Winter Solstice) on the whole body. It adopts the positions of the Nine Palaces. Li (Li Trigram, South Fire) corresponds to the upper part. The central five corresponds to the middle part. Kan (Kan Trigram, North Water) corresponds to the lower part. Xun (Xun Trigram, Southeast Wind) and Kun (Kun Trigram, Southwest Earth) correspond to the two shoulders and arms. All other parts follow this pattern.
Diagram of Tai Yi Blood Taboo
According to the diagram of the Ye Zhe Palace at the Winter Solstice recorded in the *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon), it only mentions that the Qi of the eight directions corresponds to the season to generate life, and violates the season to cause disease. It also states regarding the treatment of carbuncles: "If a person has carbuncles and swelling, and wishes to treat them, do not incise them on the day directly opposite their location." Now, it is said that all acupuncture and moxibustion should be taboo on these days, which contradicts the original intent of the classics.
On the first day, the Shen (Vital Spirit/Deity) is located in the Jueyin division of the big toe of the foot. Puncturing here causes swelling on the dorsum of the foot.
On the second day, the Shen is located in the Shaoyang division of the lateral malleolus of the foot. Puncturing here causes flaccidity of the sinews and collaterals.
On the third day, the Shen is located in the Shaoyin division of the inner thigh. Puncturing here causes pain in the lower abdomen.
On the fourth day, the Shen is located in the Taiyang division of the waist. Puncturing here causes weakness and inability to straighten the waist.
On the fifth day, the Shen is located in the Taiyin division of the mouth. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes stiffness of the tongue.
On the sixth day, the Shen is located in the Yangming division of both hands. Puncturing here causes obstruction in the throat. Another version states it is located in the little toe of the foot.
On the seventh day, the Shen is located in the Shaoyin division of the medial malleolus of the foot. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes tension and spasm of the Yin sinews and collaterals.
On the eighth day, the Shen is located in the Taiyang division of the wrist. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes the wrist to lose its strength and ability to hold objects.
On the ninth day, the Shen is located in the Jueyin division of the sacrum/coccyx. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes pathological accumulation and knotting.
On the tenth day, the Shen is located in the Taiyang division of the lower back. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes curvature of the waist and back.
On the eleventh day, the Shen is located in the Yangming division of the nasal bridge. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes swelling of the teeth and face.
On the twelfth day, the Shen is located in the Shaoyang division of the hairline. Puncturing here causes deafness or heavy hearing.
On the thirteenth day, the Shen is located in the Shaoyin division of the teeth. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here induces cold Qi in the body.
On the fourteenth day, the Shen is located in the Yangming division of the epigastrium/stomach area. Puncturing here causes Qi stagnation and swelling.
On the fifteenth day, the Shen is distributed throughout the entire body. Tonification and sedation methods are inappropriate. This is a major taboo for acupuncture and moxibustion.
On the sixteenth day, the Shen is located in the Taiyang division of the chest. Puncturing here causes reverse flow of Qi and shortness of breath.
On the seventeenth day, the Shen is located in the Yangming division of the Qichong point (ST30). Puncturing here makes breathing difficult.
On the eighteenth day, the Shen is located in the Shaoyin division of the inner thigh. Puncturing here draws out pain from the Yin regions.
On the nineteenth day, the Shen is located in the Yangming division of the dorsum of the foot. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes swelling.
On the twentieth day, the Shen is located in the Shaoyin division of the medial malleolus. Puncturing here causes spasms of the sinews and collaterals.
On the twenty-first day, the Shen is located in the Taiyang division of the little finger of the hand. Puncturing here causes numbness.
On the twenty-second day, the Shen is located in the Shaoyang division of the lateral malleolus of the foot. Puncturing here causes flaccidity of the sinews and collaterals.
On the twenty-third day, the Shen is located in the Liver and the Jueyin division of the foot. Puncturing here causes muscle cramps and twisting.
On the twenty-fourth day, the Shen is located in the Yangming division of the hand. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes obstruction in the throat.

On the twenty-sixth day, the Shen is located in the Taiyin division of the chest. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes wheezing and coughing.
On the twenty-seventh day, the Shen is located in the Yangming division of the knee. Puncturing or applying moxibustion here causes reversal of Qi in the foot meridians (Jue Ni).
On the twenty-eighth day, the Shen is located in the Shaoyin division of the knee. Puncturing here causes urgent pain in the lower abdomen.
On the twenty-ninth day, the Shen is located in the Jueyin division of the knee and tibia. Puncturing here causes sinew atrophy and weakness.
