Kunlun, Jiexi, Ququan, Feiyang, Qian Gu, Shaoze, Tongli, govern dizziness and pain of the head. If headache is accompanied by tendon spasms, heavy bones, shortness of breath, hiccups and belching, distension, frequent fright, unwillingness to sleep, cough with vexation, the pulse is wiry when lifted and hard as stone when pressed. This is due to insufficiency of Kidney Qi lodging internally, with Qi rebelling upwards, termed Kidney Jue. It is suitable to moxa Guanyuan for one hundred Zhu, and administer Yuzhen Wan. (Zhi Zhang Bian records) If headache extends to the teeth, occurring intermittently and persisting for years, this is caused by Wind-Cold remaining in the bone marrow. Marrow is governed by the brain; brain Qi rebelling causes headache, and teeth also hurt. It is suitable to use Baifuzi San, moxa Qubin for seven Zhu. Pain on the left moxa the left, pain on the right moxa the right. Shaohai, (see Dental Caries.) Wanggu, treats headache. (Tongren Shuxue Zhenjiu Tujing see Heart Vexation.) Qianjin Fang states: governs headache at the top of the head and behind the ears. Naokong and others. Tianchong, governs epilepsy headache. (Qianjin Fang see Epilepsy.)
Suwen once discussed cases of headache persisting for several years. Severe cold reaches the bone marrow internally. Marrow is governed by the brain; brain Qi rebelling causes headache, and teeth also hurt. It is named Jue-ni headache, which involves dizziness. This is correct. All can be treated according to the syndrome. If it is True Headache, then morning onset leads to evening death, evening onset leads to morning death. (See detailed explanation in Nanjing Shu.) If a person suffers from this, there is little that can be done. In summary, there must be a cause. Is it because the root is not firm? If one wishes to apply moxibustion, one must first moxa points such as Baihui and Xinhui, and especially moxa points such as Dantian and Qihai to tonify and nourish, so as not to let the condition reach such an extreme.
