(Nasal Dryness, Sneezing)
Children often have excessive nasal discharge. This is caused by cold wind striking the fontanelle and lung cold. Moxibustion on Xinhui (B26, 3 moxa cones). *Mingtang* records: Xinhui treats head wind with excessive nasal discharge. Heliao (SI19) treats nasal obstruction and facial deviation. Excessive clear nasal discharge that cannot be stopped. Qiunu (rhinorrhea) with sores. (Same below.) Kunlun (BL60) treats epistaxis with excessive nasal discharge. Fengmen (BL12) treats persistent epistaxis. Dripping clear nasal discharge. (Below) Heliao (SI19) treats nasal sinusitis with discharge and sores. (*Tongren* records: Fengmen (BL12) treats rhinorrhea with clear discharge. [Seen in discussions of Cold Damage and miscellaneous diseases.] Tongtian (GV18), Chengguang (BL75) treat facial deviation. Excessive clear nasal discharge. (Both seen in facial deviation conditions.) Qanding (GV21) treats children with excessive clear nasal discharge. [Seen in epilepsy.] Shenting (GV24) treats head wind and vertigo. Unstopping clear nasal discharge. Tearing. Shenting (GV24), Cuanzhu (BL2), Yingxiang (LI20), Fengmen (BL12), Hegu (LI4), Zhiyin (BL67), Tonggu (BL65) mainly treat rhinorrhea with clear discharge. (*Qianjin*) Qucha (GB7) etc. mainly treat nasal deviation with excessive discharge. [Seen in nasal congestion.] Fuliou (KI7) mainly treats saliva/phlegm. Shuigou (GV26), Tianyou (TE16) mainly treat inability to retain nasal discharge. Loss of smell and taste. Lidui (ST45), Jinggu (BL64), Qianggu (SI15) mainly treat yellow nasal discharge. (*Qianjin* seen in nasal congestion.)
Wang Zhizhong’s mother suffered from chronic nasal dryness for a long time, accompanied by a sensation of cold air. She asked physicians, but they did not understand it, merely saying that she would recover naturally when the illness passed. Eventually, the illness did pass, without specific intervention. Later, she gradually recovered after moxibustion was applied to Juegu (GB39). Wang Zhizhong himself once suffered from this condition. He accidentally noticed slight pain at Juegu (GB39) and applied moxa; his nasal dryness also disappeared. Initially, he did not know this was due to the efficacy of moxibustion on Juegu (GB39). Later, upon reading *Qianjin Fang*, he found this syndrome recorded there, and only then realized that the resolution of his nasal dryness was due to Juegu (GB39). If there is excessive nasal discharge, it is appropriate to moxa Xinhui (B26) and Qanding (GV21). The pathology in adults and children is initially indistinguishable.
Fengmen (BL12), Wuchu (BL3) mainly treat incessant sneezing. (*Qianjin*) Heyan (GB7) treats frequent sneezing. (*Mingtang*) Fengmen (BL12) treats excessive nasal discharge. (*Tongren* seen in Cold Damage discussions.) *Ben Shi Fang* records that Xu Zhike experienced involuntary sneezing immediately after eating due to fluid retention in the body. He was cured by taking Zao Gao Wan (Jujube Paste Pill). (Temporary sneezing can be relieved by adding clothing around the neck.)
