The Foot Sanjiao Meridian is a divergent branch of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. At five cun above the lateral malleolus, it branches off, enters and penetrates the small intestine, emerges at Weiyang (BL39), runs parallel with the main pathway of the Foot-Taiyang Meridian, and internally connects with the urinary bladder, regulating the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner). Its pathological manifestations include retention of urine in excess conditions and enuresis in deficiency conditions; enuresis should be treated with tonification, while retention of urine should be treated with sedation (from *Ling Shu*).
The Fu-Association point is Zhongwan (CV12); the Zang-Association point is Zhangmen (LR13); the Sinew-Association point is Yanglingquan (GB34); the Marrow-Association point is Juegu (GB39, also known as Yangfu); the Blood-Association point is Geshu (BL17); the Bone-Association point is Dazhu (BL11); the Vessel-Association point is Taiyuan (LU9); the Qi-Association point is located outside the Sanjiao, between two tendons directly opposite the inner sides of both breasts, which is Danzhong (CV17). ○ For Fu diseases, treat Zhongwan; for Zang diseases, treat Zhangmen; for Sinew diseases, treat Yanglingquan; for Marrow diseases, treat Juegu; for Blood diseases, treat Geshu; for Bone diseases, treat Dazhu; for Vessel diseases, treat Taiyuan; for Qi diseases, treat Danzhong (from *Nan Jing*).
The root of the Foot-Taiyang Meridian is located five cun above the heel; its branch terminates at the two collaterals of Mingmen, where Mingmen refers to the eyes. ○ The root of the Foot-Shaoyang Meridian is located between Qiaoyin points; its branch terminates before Chuanglong, where Chuanglong refers to the ear. ○ The root of the Foot-Shaoyin Meridian is located three cun above the medial malleolus; its branch terminates at the back and the two vessels under the tongue. ○ The root of the Foot-Jueyin Meridian is located five cun above Xingjian; its branch terminates at the back. ○ The root of the Foot-Yangming Meridian is at Lidui; its branch terminates at Renying and the area of the cheek clamping Hangsang. ○ The root of the Foot-Taiyin Meridian is four cun anterior and superior to Zhongfeng; its branch terminates at the back and the root of the tongue. ○ The root of the Hand-Taiyang Meridian is posterior to the lateral malleolus; its branch terminates one cun above Mingmen. ○ The root of the Hand-Shaoyang Meridian is two cun superior between the fourth and fifth fingers; its branch terminates below and laterally to the upper angle behind the ear. ○ The root of the Hand-Yangming Meridian is within the elbow bone extending up to Bieyang; its branch terminates below the face at Heqian. ○ The root of the Hand-Taiyin Meridian is at Cun Kou; its branch terminates at the pulsating point under the axilla. ○ The root of the Hand-Shaoyin Meridian is at the end of the sharp bone; its branch terminates at the back. ○ The root of the Hand-Zhongyin Pericardium Meridian is two cun between the two tendons posterior to the palm; its branch terminates three cun under the axilla. ○ In general, when examining these roots and branches: deficiency in the lower part leads to cold limbs (Jue); excess in the lower part leads to heat; deficiency in the upper part leads to dizziness; excess in the upper part leads to heat and pain (from *Ling Shu*).
