Question: Why do people suffer from eye diseases, and why do women experience retrograde menstruation (menstrual blood flowing upward), with blood pouring into the pupil, causing redness and astringency throughout the eye?

Answer: This is due to unmarried women or obese and robust women suffering from heat in the blood leading to amenorrhea. When the menstrual period passes without flow, the blood reverses its direction and flows upward, entering the eyes and pouring outside the cornea, appearing red, or growing like fleshy growths on the black cornea. Treatment must absolutely avoid hooking or cutting; instead, only use herbs that descend qi, break blood stasis, and unblock menstruation. The blood nebula will naturally recede. It is suitable to take Tiaojing San (Regulating Menstruation Powder), Pohong Honghua San (Breaking Blood Safflower Powder), Shunjing Tang (Smooth Menstruation Decoction), and Daochi San (Guiding Out Redness Powder).

Question: Why do women experience eye astringency and pain during menstruation? Answer: This is due to Liver deficiency. Women who are constitutionally weak have underlying eye conditions. During menstruation, excessive blood loss further damages the Liver meridian, causing increased eye pain, swelling and astringency making it difficult to open the eyes, headache, dizziness, and the formation of nebula on the black cornea, resembling millet grains or flower-like white depressions. All these are caused by Liver decline and deficiency. It is suitable to take Danggui Buxue San (Angelica Tonifying Blood Powder) and decoct Jiuyi Dan (Nine-to-One Pill).
