Treats Taiyang disease (disease of the Taiyang channel) after sweating therapy. If sweating does not resolve the condition, and the patient still has fever, palpitations in the epigastrium (heart region), dizziness, body tremors, and a sensation of being unable to stand steady as if about to fall to the ground.
This formula is indicated for these conditions. It also treats Shaoyin disease (disease of the Shaoyin channel) that persists for two or three days, progressing to four or five days, presenting with abdominal pain, difficulty in urination, heaviness and pain in the four limbs, and spontaneous diarrhea.
Fuling (Poria, 3 liang) Shaoyao (White Peony Root, 3 liang) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, 3 liang) Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 2 liang) Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix, 1 piece, processed).
Take the above five herbs, add eight sheng of water, boil to obtain three sheng of decoction, remove the dregs. Take seven ge of warm decoction per dose, three times daily.
Song says: Ginger, Peony, and Poria are all three liang; Atractylodes is two liang, and one Aconite is used to explore its efficacy. For short urine, frequent cough, and abdominal pain, this formula drives out cold and calms water.
Modification Song says: If cough worsens, add Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit, half sheng), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, one liang), and Xixin (Asarum, one liang). (Another version removes Fresh Ginger.) If urination is clear and profuse, it may consume body fluids, so remove Fuling (Poria).
Zhanglingshao stated: Deficient patients should not undergo sweating therapy; if the condition persists after sweating, it leads to transformed syndromes. "Zhenwu" refers to the deity who controls water. Water nature is dynamic; now the water qi is moving excessively and restlessly.
It moves upward... [text incomplete] ...and affects the sides.
Luodongyi stated: Xiao Qinglong Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction) treats exterior unresolved conditions with water qi, which is an excess-cold pattern affecting both interior and exterior. Zhenwu Tang (True Warrior Decoction) treats conditions where the exterior is resolved but water qi remains, involving... [text incomplete] ...Spleen governs water transport, Kidney governs water metabolism. The Kidney acts as the gatekeeper of the Stomach. Water accumulates following its kind. If there is no Yang Qi in the Kidney, although the Spleen's pivot mechanism functions, the Kidney's gate remains closed. Water attempts to flow but lacks control, leading to overflow and erratic movement, causing these symptoms. Using the acrid-hot nature of Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix) strengthens the primal Yang of the Kidney, thus giving water a master. The warm-drying nature of Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) establishes the Middle Jiao (Earth element), thus providing control over water. The acrid-dispersing nature of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) assists Fuzi in tonifying Yang, embedding the intention of dispersing water within tonification. The light-penetrating nature of Fuling (Poria) assists Baizhu in strengthening Earth, embedding the method of promoting urination within controlling water. Particularly important is the bitter-descending action of Shaoyao (White Peony Root); its principle is subtle. Human Yang Qi is rooted in Yin Essence. If only acrid-hot herbs are used to tonify Yang without assisting with bitter-descending agents, the True Yang may fly away and dissipate. Shaoyao (White Peony Root) is the last flower of spring, wilting in summer; it is used to urgently gather scattered Yang Qi and return it to its root. When diarrhea occurs, Shaoyao is reduced because of its bitter-descending and purgative effects. Adding Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) warms the middle and overcomes cold. Cold-water injuring the Lung causes cough; adding Xixin (Asarum) and Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) overcomes cold-water. Adding Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit) collects Lung Qi. If urination is normal/profuse, remove Fuling (Poria) to avoid excessive diuresis damaging Kidney Qi. If vomiting occurs, remove Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix) and add Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) because the pathology is not in the Lower Jiao but water stagnates in the Stomach; thus, warming the Kidney to move water is unnecessary, instead warming the Stomach to disperse water is appropriate. Moreover, Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) has the function of stopping vomiting.
