Raw soybeans, chewed thoroughly; if they do not taste fishy, it indicates Sha poison (Sha disease/toxin). It can be used to test the condition and also resolves Sha toxin; raw taro is also effective.
Take one large red rooster, place it on the patient's abdomen with its beak facing the patient's face; the chicken will lie still. When the pain stops, the chicken will jump down naturally. This method also treats corpse fainting (sudden collapse and unconsciousness) and sudden evil invasion.
When chewing fresh ginger while conscious, if it does not feel spicy, it indicates a true cold syndrome.
Mix equal parts of newly drawn well water and "Tianquan" water (rainwater boiled repeatedly), known as Yin-Yang Water. Li Shizhen stated in *Binhu Pulse Classification*: The Upper Jiao governs reception, the Middle Jiao governs digestion and transformation, and the Lower Jiao governs excretion. When the Three Jiao are unobstructed, Yin and Yang are harmonious, and ascending and descending movements circulate normally, the Zang-Fu organs function smoothly. If this order is lost, the two Qi become chaotic, turbid Yin fails to descend, and clear Yang fails to ascend, resulting in Huoluan (cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea). Drinking this water stabilizes the condition by separating Yin and Yang to achieve balance. Note: Well water rises, rainwater descends; thus, rising water should be fresh, and descending water should be cooked. It can be used to decoct malaria medicines, aiming to resolve cold-heat pathogens and harmonize Yin and Yang. Decoct East Wall Earth for drinking (*Shengji Zonglu*).
Soot from the bottom of the cooking pot and soot from the chimney flue (each 2.5g), stirred rapidly thousands of times in boiling water, covered with a bowl, and taken orally in small doses.
Raw broad beans (ground into powder) mixed with a little vinegar and taken with newly drawn well water (*Puji Fang*).
Luffa network (500g) and white frost plum flesh (3g, including the kernel), ground together, and taken with juice decocted from pear tree branches (*Shenghui Fang*).
Decoct Haotongpi (Cortex Phellodendri or similar bark) for drinking (*Shengji Zonglu*).
Old straw sandals found by the road (remove both ends, wash three to four times), decocted in water (*Shihai Wenshan*).
Fresh lotus root, crushed for juice (*Shenghui Fang*).
Aged grain from the imperial granary, boiled into a clear soup, sipped slowly to treat excessive thirst in Huoluan (*Yonglei Qianfang*).
Winter melon, boiled into a clear soup, drunk when cool (Note by Banchi). Commentary: Although aged grain clears heat and relieves thirst, it is suitable only after Huoluan symptoms have ceased. During the peak of pathogenic factors, when vomiting and diarrhea are uncontrolled, using it might be too stagnating. Winter melon is sweet, bland, and slightly cool, effectively clearing summerheat and dampness. Whether before or after illness, using it as a beverage is excellent. It can be used for warm diseases, dampness, summerheat, epidemics, diarrhea, and dysentery.
Reed rhizome and Ophiopogon tuber, decocted in water (*Qianjin Fang*). Commentary: Reed rhizome alone decocted relieves irritability and thirst; combining it with bamboo leaves is even better.
Pear flesh, boiled into soup; for severe thirst, crush for juice (Mengyin).
Radish, boiled into soup, or chewed raw to swallow juice, spitting out residue (Mengyin).
Raw mung beans, quickly boiled into clear soup, taken cold (Mengyin).
Loquat leaf (brush off hairs), heavily decocted and sipped slowly. This formula not only relieves thirst in Huoluan; if collected in deep winter, cleaned, chopped, dried in a clean pan, and stored in a sealed porcelain jar, it can replace tea daily to prevent summerheat-damp epidemics and conditions like dysphagia and dysentery (Mengyin).
The following treat Huoluan with muscle cramps.
White feces of male chickens (collected in the twelfth lunar month), ground into powder, mixed with water and taken warm (*Jin Gui Yao Lue*).
Earth slurry (dig a pit three feet deep in clean soil, pour in new well water, stir, wait briefly, and take the clear supernatant), drink three to five cups (*Qianjin Fang*). Commentary: Qianfu said: Huoluan is caused by internal injury from summerheat, confusing the seven spirits. Yin energy calms the spirit; agitation destroys it. Only extreme Yin energy can cure it. Kun represents Earth, belonging to Yin; Earth is quiet and compliant. Earth slurry made in a Yin pit is Yin within Yin, capable of draining Yang within Yang. I believe understanding Luo's words means half the treatment for Huoluan is achieved. Jiang Shiyu praised his diligent study of ancient teachings, truly justified.
Newly drawn well water, slowly cooled and drunk; externally, soak both feet in a basin of water. Avoid hot food (*Jiuji Liangfang*). Commentary: Applicable if summerheat is blazing.
One handful of broad bean leaves, crushed to extract one bowl of juice, drink (*Guang Biji*).
One handful of mulberry leaves, decocted for drinking (*Shenghui Fang*).
Papaya (15g), decocted in water. Use the remaining liquid to soak a blue cloth and wrap the calf muscles. Adding seven mulberry leaves to this formula is especially good (*Shenghui Fang*).
Mentha arvensis (wild mint), decocted for drinking (*Shenghui Fang*). Commentary: Do not use if sweating.
Forty-nine copper coins, Papaya (15g), Smoked plum (five, stir-fried), decocted in two cups of water, divided and taken warm (*Shengji Zonglu*). Commentary: This formula specifically treats Liver Wood overacting on Spleen Earth. It is not suitable for severe epidemic infections.
Salted plum, decocted into soup, sip slowly (*Ruyi Fang*). Commentary: Same principle as above.
For those near death, use one handful of broken rush mat (cut), one cup of sour rice water, decoct and drink (*Shenghui Fang*).
Silkworm excrement (15g), decocted in Yin-Yang water, clarified and taken warm (Mengyin). Commentary: Silkworm excrement comes from mulberry leaves. Mulberry leaves calm wind and resolve dampness, hence used in *Shenghui Fang* for Huoluan cramps. Since eaten by silkworms, it retains wind-resolving and damp-draining properties. Silkworms remain rigid without rotting, retaining pure clear Qi from nature. Thus, their excrement is odorless and unchanged in color, indicating transformation of mulberry into silkworm body, maintaining clear Qi despite traversing turbid pathways. *Jin Gui* uses chicken excrement for Huoluan cramps; chickens belong to Xun, dry excrement helps overcome wind-damp and guide turbidity downward. Silkworm excrement guides turbidity down and transforms it to clarity, superior to chicken excrement. I use it as the main drug for Huoluan cramps with good results. Later, I saw Feilong Duoming Dan for Sha disease, using human calcined bone to lead drugs to sweep turbid evil downward through the yin orifices, more precise than formulas using mirabilite. Hence, faster effect. Formulation...
For those unable to urinate, drink juice extracted from watermelon (Mengyin).
(Use watermelon juice cautiously if Yang Qi is constrained internally causing heat without sweat. The note "frequent sweating" is accurate. Xie...)
For thirst with stagnant Qi mechanism, crushed juice of Honeysuckle, Dandelion, Luffa leaf, or Luffa fruit can be drunk, or decocted dried herbs (*Mengyin*). Commentary: Violet flower (Viola yedoensis), also called Ruyi Grass, clears blood heat. Chewed raw, it tastes sweet without grassy odor, suitable for famine relief. Truly a celestial herb for survival. Noted for public awareness.
The following treat Dry Huoluan (inability to vomit or defecate).
Buckwheat (roasted, hulled, 9g powder), mixed with cool boiled water (*Jianbian Fang*).
Gardenia seeds (14 pieces, burnt and ground), taken with wine (*Zhouhou Fang*).
Salt (a pinch heated on a knife until hot), taken with warm child's urine or new well water. Soon, vomiting and defecation occur, and Qi flows freely.
Motherwort herb (15g), decocted, add raw honey, take warm (*YiTong*).
Calystegia hederacea root, chewed and juice swallowed (*Shouyu Shenfang*).
Herba Siegesbeckiae, decocted and taken warm (*Shengji Zonglu*).
Peach leaves, decocted and taken warm (*Waitai Mi Yao*).
Acorus tatarinowii (15g crushed for juice), mixed with water (*Shenghui Fang*).
Oil from tobacco pipes (soot oil), one pill size placed in mouth,灌ed with water, alive upon swallowing (*You Tang Yi Shu*).
Turnip seeds, boiled for juice (*Jijian Fang*).
Black soybeans, raw ground, taken with water in a cubic inch measure. *Puji Fang*. Commentary: Current practice of testing Sha with soybeans originates here.
For critical cases, place a slice of raw taro in the mouth; swallowing juice revives consciousness. After revival, eat a few more slices to widen intestines, remove filth, break blood stasis, and clear Sha toxin. Folk methods of drinking oil and swallowing alum aim to induce vomiting and clarify turbidity. However, oil is cloying and alum is astringent, having drawbacks; I do not adopt them.
Pu'er tea, heavily decocted and taken warm (Mengyin).
Light sea snake (120g) and Chinese water chestnut (60g, sliced), boiled until snake dissolves. Take juice, warm (Mengyin).
Radish, crushed for juice (Mengyin).
Male rat excrement, fourteen pieces, decocted in Yin-Yang water (Mengyin). Commentary: *Jingyan Fang* has a formula using horse manure juice for Dry Huoluan. Though it dries dampness and descends turbidity, the foul smell makes direct administration difficult. Rat excrement is more acceptable and seemingly equally effective. (Note: Horse manure burnt to ash is named Dusheng San, treating intestinal twisting Sha, effective immediately. The complaint about smell refers to unburnt manure...)
Radish leaves (hung in winter or spread on roofs until early spring, thoroughly dried, stored in sealed jars). One ounce washed, decocted and taken warm (Mengyin). Commentary: Also treats epidemic throat conditions, external invasions, malaria, dysentery, diarrhea, infantile malnutrition, jaundice, edema, and beriberi. Effective, accessible, cheap, and beneficial for all families.
Rice stalks, heavily decocted and taken warm (Mengyin).
Liuyi San (see Part 4), three qian mixed with new well water (Hejian).
The following treat pathogens deeply entering collaterals, and Dry Huoluan affecting Zang organs, along with Huoluan cramps.
Zixue (Purple Snow) (see Part 4)
Bixue (Green Snow)
Jiangxue (Crimson Snow, aka Hongling San)
Xingjun San
Yushu Dan
Zijin Dan
Feilong Duoming Dan (Same name as surgical formula but different ingredients. Surgical formula uses centipede as chief; centipede flies and controls snakes, hence the name. Sha-treatment formula uses precious aromatic substances, aided by human calcined bone to swiftly sweep turbid evil downward, achieving rapid success like a galloping horse, hence the name.)
Commentary: All above formulas have life-saving power. Powerful ones are hard to obtain suddenly; expensive ones are hard to buy. If distributed according to ability or funded for charity, the merit is boundless.
The following treat Cold-Damp Dry Huoluan.
Aged mugwort leaves, decocted and taken (*Waitai Mi Yao*).
Perilla, crushed for juice or decocted dried herbs (*Zhouhou Fang*). Commentary: Effective for abdominal pain and diarrhea/vomiting caused by eating fish and crabs.
Citrus reticulata peel and Pogostemon cablin (each 15g), decocted (*Baiyi Xuanfang*).
Allium macrostemon, boiled into soup (*Duxing Fang*).
Ginger-processed Magnolia bark, ground, taken with warm water (3qian). For cases with summerheat, use new well water (*Shenghui Fang*).
Cloves (14 pieces ground), mixed with boiling water (*Qianjin Fang*). Commentary: Effective for pain and diarrhea from excessive crab and fruit consumption.
True Shenqu (3qian), decocted and taken warm (Mengyin).
Evodia fruit (14 pieces), Amomum fruit (3g ground), swallowed with soaked liquid (Mengyin).
Agarwood (3 fen ground with cool boiled water), taken with boiling water (Mengyin).
The following treat Yin-Cold Huoluan.
Sansheng Dan (see Part 4)
Suxiao Dan
Chan Su Wan
Yao Shi Chan Su Wan
Pili San
Huiyang Gao
These formulas must be prepared. If distributing to others, clearly describe the condition to avoid errors.
For Huoluan cramps with excessive vomiting/diarrhea, weak pulse, shortness of breath, and profuse sweating indicating collapse: Place 2-3 jin of good vinegar near the patient. Red-hot iron tools are frequently quenched in the vinegar, allowing the patient to inhale the vapor, turning danger to safety. For cold feet, crush 30g raw Aconite, apply to Yongquan point (KI1). Then medicate according to syndrome to restore Yuan Qi. Regardless of cold or heat syndromes, for impending Yuan Qi collapse, this method should be urgently used. I have tested it many times with success. It also treats postpartum syncope and restlessness in various diseases.
