Formula for treating Shanghan (Cold Damage) Shiqi (Seasonal Qi diseases), Wenyi (Warm Epidemics), presenting with headache, high fever, and a full pulse, in the initial one to two days of onset.
Zhen Dansha (Cinnabar, 1 liang, powdered).
Take the above single herb, boil in 1 dou of water, reduce to 1 sheng, take orally at once, cover the patient to induce sweating, avoid cold and raw foods. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 1)
Hao Chi (Good Fermented Soybeans, 1 sheng, wrapped in silk gauze) Congbai (Scallion White, cut, 1 sheng).
Take the above two herbs, boil in 5 sheng of urine from an uncircumcised boy, reduce to 2 sheng, divide into two doses, take orally, cover the patient to induce sweating, extremely effective. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 1)
Formula for treating Taiyang Zhongfeng (Wind Strike of the Taiyang Channel), characterized by a floating Yang pulse and weak Yin pulse; floating Yang indicates spontaneous heat, weak Yin indicates spontaneous sweating; aversion to cold as if shivering, aversion to wind as if being sprinkled with water, mild fever as if covered by feathers, nasal congestion with roaring sound, and dry vomiting.
Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, each 3 liang), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 2 liang), Dazao (Fructus Jujubae, 12 pieces, split).
Cut the ginger and split the jujubes. Cut the remaining herbs. Boil in 7 sheng of water. First boil the jujubes until soft, strain out the dregs, then add the other herbs. If the water level is low, add more. Boil until slightly bubbling, obtain 3 sheng of liquid, strain out the dregs. Take 1 sheng per dose, three times daily. For children, adjust the dosage according to their condition. If sweating occurs after the first dose, extend the interval between subsequent doses slightly. If no sweating occurs, shorten the interval slightly to ensure the medicinal effect is continuous, so that sweating will naturally occur, similar to the method of using Liuwu Qingsan. If the disease is severe, administer day and night, and strictly avoid wind. If the condition does not resolve after one dose and the symptoms remain unchanged, continue administration. Some patients may require two or three doses to recover. After taking this medicine for a short while, drink hot congee to assist the medicinal power. If the initial illness was severe and fire therapy was used to force sweating, leading to excessive fire qi, persistent sweating, restlessness, and insomnia, add Longgu (Os Draconis) and Muli (Concha Ostreae), each 3 liang, reduce Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi Cassiae) and Shengjiang by 1 liang each, and omit Shaoyao. For deficiency labor with interior urgency and abdominal pain, take 2 sheng of the aforementioned Guizhi Tang, add Jiaoyi (Malt Sugar), 1 sheng, adjust to a suitable temperature, and divide into two doses. If profuse sweating occurs, use only 2 liang of Guizhi. After inducing sweating, if sweating is induced again, leading to Yang collapse and delirium, but the pulse remains harmonous, the prognosis is good and death will not occur. If the disease resolves after sweating, but about half a day later restlessness recurs with a floating and rapid pulse, sweating can be induced again, and Guizhi Tang is appropriate. Avoid Haizao (Thallus Sargassii), raw Congbai, Songcai (Brassica pekinensis), etc. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 2)
Guizhi Tang Formula
Cut the five herbs mentioned above. Boil in 7 sheng of water, reduce to 3 sheng, strain out the dregs. Take 1 sheng warm. Shortly after, drink 1 sheng of thin congee to assist the medicinal power. Cover the patient to induce slight sweating, extremely effective.
