After taking Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), if profuse sweating occurs and the pulse is surging and large, administer Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) as before. If the condition resembles malaria, occurring twice a day, relief will follow sweating; this formula belongs to:
Guixin (Cassia Twig, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*) (1 liang 17 zhu) Xingren (Apricot Seed, *Armeniacae Semen*) (16 pieces, remove tips and skin) Shaoyao (Peony Root, *Paeoniae Radix*) (1 liang 6 zhu) Mahuang (Ephedra Herb, *Ephedrae Herba*) (16 zhu, remove joints) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Rhizome, *Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma*) (appropriate amount)
The above seven ingredients are cut, boiled in five sheng of water. First, boil Mahuang (Ephedra Herb, *Ephedrae Herba*) until it boils once, skim off the foam, then add the remaining herbs. Boil until two sheng remain, strain, and take one sheng warm, twice daily. Originally, it was said: combine two parts of Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) with one part of Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction) to make two sheng, taken in two doses. Now combined into one formula. Avoid consuming Haizao (Sargassum Thallus, *Sargassi Herba*) and Songcai (Chinese Cabbage, *Brassicae Pekinensis Folium*).
To treat cold damage or warm disease after three days or more, with fullness in the chest, Tao states: if cold damage or warm disease has persisted for three or four days, with discomfort in the chest and an urge to vomit, administer Jiu Dan Fang (Wine Gallbladder Formula).
Kujiu (Vinegar, *Aceti vini*) (0.5 sheng) Zhudan (Pig Gallbladder, *Sus Scrofa Domesticus Vesica Bilei*) (one piece)
Mix the above two ingredients and consume them all. Relief follows vomiting; this is highly effective. Zhi states: it is excellent for eliminating toxic qi. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 1)
To treat cold damage persisting for seven or eight days without resolution, characterized by silent irritability, abdominal stagnation of feces, and delirious speech, use Da Chaihu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction).
Chaihu (Bupleurum Root, *Bupleuri Radix*) Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, *Pinelliae Rhizoma*) (washed with hot water, each 8 liang) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Rhizome, *Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma*) (4 liang) Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, *Anemarrhenae Rhizoma*) Shaoyao (Peony Root, *Paeoniae Radix*) Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*) Weirui (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma, *Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma*) Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, *Scutellariae Radix*) (each 2 liang) Gancao (Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) (1 liang)
Cut the above ten ingredients, boil in one dou of water until three sheng remain, strain, and take one sheng warm, three times daily. Avoid Haizao (Sargassum Thallus, *Sargassi Herba*), Songcai (Chinese Cabbage, *Brassicae Pekinensis Folium*), mutton, and Yitang (Maltose, *Saccharum*). (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 1)
Shengdihuang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction): To treat cold damage with heat, physical emaciation, shortness of breath, fullness below the heart, retained food in the stomach, and difficulty in defecation.
Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root, *Rehmanniae Radix*) (3 jin) Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*) (4 liang) Dazao (Jujube Fruit, *Zizyphi Fructus*) (20 pieces, split) Gancao (Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) (1 liang, honey-fried) Mangxiao (Mirabilite, *Natrii Sulfas*) (2 he)
Crush and mix the above five ingredients thoroughly. Steam them under five sheng of rice until cooked, squeeze out the juice, and divide into two doses. Avoid Haizao (Sargassum Thallus, *Sargassi Herba*) and Songcai (Chinese Cabbage, *Brassicae Pekinensis Folium*). (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 2)
