Formulas for Treating Death by Hanging.
Cover the patient's mouth and nose with clothing or thick materials such as felt, pressing down gently. Have two people blow forcefully into both ears. The patient may be revived within the time it takes to cook a meal. (From *Waitai Mi Yao*, Volume [Missing])
Formula for Treating Death by Suicide by Hanging.
Grind *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* (Zaojiao, 皂荚) and *Asari Radix et Rhizoma* (Xixin, 细辛) into powder. Take an amount the size of a broad bean, and insufflate it into both nostrils. Using *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* (Zaojiao, 皂荚) alone is also effective. (From *Ishinpo*, Volume 14)
Formula for Treating Death by Drowning.
Flex the dead person's legs and place them on the shoulders of a living person. Position the deceased's back against the living person's back. Carry the deceased while running briskly; the patient will revive once water is expelled from the airway. (From *Waitai Mi Yao*, Volume 28)
Another Formula.
Heat sand and cover the deceased with it, ensuring sand is above and below, leaving only the nose and mouth exposed. Keep the sand warm; replace it when it cools. (From *Ishinpo*, Volume 14)
Formula for Reviving Those Who Have Been Drowned Overnight.
Hang the deceased upside down and undress them. Remove debris from the umbilicus. Blow forcefully into both ears. The patient will revive. (From *Waitai Mi Yao*, Volume 28)
For Death by Heatstroke in Summer: In cases of death by heatstroke, cold exposure must be avoided, as contact with cold leads to death. The treatment formula is as follows.
Wrap a flexible leather belt around the patient's umbilicus. Have three or four people urinate into the center of the belt to generate warmth. Alternatively, use mud mixed with grass, or invert a clay bowl or a detached wheel chariot part and place it over the umbilicus, ensuring urine does not leak out. This method is intended for emergency situations on the road where hot water is unavailable, necessitating the use of urine. Zhang Zhongjing stated: "If multiple people are needed to urinate, the goal is to obtain warmth." If hot water is available, it should be used instead. Zhang Zhongjing further noted: "Mud and wheel parts are avoided because they are considered cold." However, in summer, if heated earth or warmed wheel parts are obtained, they may also be used. (From *Waitai Mi Yao*, Volume 28)
Formula for Treating Freezing Death from Falling into Water in Winter, Characterized by Stiff Limbs, Locked Jaws, and Only Faint Breath.
Burn a large quantity of ash in a large vessel until warm. Place the warm ash in a cloth bag and apply it to the patient's heart region. Replace the bag when it cools. Once warmth penetrates the heart area, the eyes will regain movement, and the mouth will open. At this point, administer warm urine or thin rice gruel slowly via the mouth. The patient will revive. If the heart is not warmed first, and fire is applied directly to the body, the conflict between external cold and internal heat will result in death. (From *Waitai Mi Yao*, Volume 28)
