Lei Gong said: When using Taiyi Yuyuliang (Taiyi Hematite), do not mistakenly use Shizhonghuang (Stone Middle Yellow) and Luanshihuang (Egg-shaped Stone Yellow); these two names resemble Taiyi Yuyuliang. Shizhonghuang is reddish-black and yellow inside, with a bland and slightly astringent taste. Luanshihuang tastes sour, each piece resembling an egg, containing a seed inside, and is unsuitable for medicinal use. If mistakenly ingested, it causes dryness of the intestines.
Taiyi Yuyuliang looks like stone but breaks easily when tapped lightly, and can be ground into powder; it resembles layered leaves of Cinnabar (Zhuhsha). It benefits the Spleen and stabilizes Zang-Fu Qi.
When processing four liang of Taiyi Yuyuliang, first boil five he of Black Bean (Heidou) and five he of Polygonatum Rhizome (Huangjing) in two dou of water until five sheng of decoction remains; pour this decoction into a porcelain crucible, add Taiyi Yuyuliang, heat over fire, and replenish as needed until the liquid is exhausted; the medicine will naturally acquire a fragrance similar to new rice. After pounding, grind it ten thousand times before use.
Lei Gong said: When using Taiyi Yuyuliang, it must be ground into powder. Pour fresh well water into a vessel, stir continuously without stopping. Once done, pour it out into a basin-like shape. Repeat this "water levigation" (Feiguo) process three times. Discard the sediment, and use only the levigated powder for medicinal purposes.
When taking this medicine, regardless of the dosage, one must avoid consuming foods with an eggy odor.
Lei Gong said: When using Huangjing (Polygonatum Rhizome), do not use Gouwen (Gelsemium Root), which closely resembles Huangjing. The distinguishing feature is that Gouwen leaves have two hooked hairs. Ingesting Gouwen by mistake harms the human body. Huangjing leaves resemble bamboo leaves.
After harvesting Huangjing, wash it clean with stream water, then steam it from Si hour to Zi hour (9 hours). Slice it thinly with a knife, sun-dry it, and use it.
Lei Gong said: When using Shichangpu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome), do not use Nichangpu (Mud Acorus) or Xiachangpu (Summer Acorus). These two are similar, resembling bamboo root whips, with black shapes, foul odors, and fishy tastes, making them unsuitable for use. For Shichangpu, harvest those growing on rocks. The true product has tender yellow roots, is firm and hard, has dense nodes, and measures one cun with nine nodes.
After harvesting, scrape off the outer layer of yellow-black hard skin using a copper knife. Mix with tender mulberry branches, steam, remove, sun-dry, discard the mulberry branches, and cut into pieces for use.
Lei Gong said: When using Renshen (Ginseng Radix), select those that are plump, block-shaped like a chicken leg, and resembling the human form.
After harvesting, dry in the shade, remove the rhizome head (Lu Tou) on all sides and any black parts, then cut into pieces for medicinal use.
Use Renshen sparingly in summer to prevent palpitations.
