Lei Gong said: When using Nux (Natrii Sulfas), first grind it into powder. Place it in a porcelain bottle and heat it over fire until it becomes red-hot. Mix Herba Portulacae (Jichangcai) and Semen Platycladi (Baiziren) together, divide them into small pills the size of "Di Zhu" (a specific pill size). When the bottle is red-hot, throw the Nux into the bottle, continuing until all the "Di Zhu" sized pills are processed. The Nux will naturally become "Fu" (stabilized or subdued in nature). For every four taels of Nux, use fifteen pieces of Herba Portulacae and Semen Platycladi combined.

Mangxiao (Mirabilitum) is refined from Puxiao (Glauberite), and that which resembles wheat awns is called Mangxiao.
Lei Gong said: When using Talcum (Huashi), there are various types; do not mistake them. There are Bai Huashi (White Talcum), Lv Huashi (Green Talcum), Wu Huashi (Black Talcum), Leng Huashi (Cold Talcum), and Huang Huashi (Yellow Talcum). Among these, Bai Huashi resembles Calcitum (Fangjieshi); it is white and has fine white streaks when drawn on stone; only this type should be used. Lv Huashi is cold in nature and toxic, and is not used in medicine. Wu Huashi is blackish; if it leaves cyan-white streaks when drawn on stone, it is excellent for medicinal use. Huang Huashi is gold-colored and granular; if it leaves cyan-black streaks when drawn on stone, do not use it, as it can be fatal. Leng Huashi is bluish-green; if it leaves white streaks when drawn on stone, do not use it. If Huashi resembles ice, is white-cyan in color, and leaves white streaks when drawn on stone, it is genuine.
When processing Huashi, first scrape and grind it into powder with a knife, then boil it with Cortex Moutan (Mudanpi) for one shichen (two hours). Remove it, discard the Cortex Moutan, take the Huashi, wash it with flowing water from the east, dry it in the sun, and then use it.
Lei Gong said: When processing Zengqing, do not use stones containing impurities or Tongqing (Malachite).
To process one tael of Zengqing, require Saniculae Radix Cum Rhizoma (Zibeitiankui), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao), and Qingzhicao (Qingzhi Grass). Use equal weights of dried and fresh materials, finely chopped, and place them in a porcelain crucible. Add the Zengqing, along with two yi (weight unit) of flowing water from the east and the other herbs. Simmer slowly for five days and nights, ensuring the fire and water do not cease. When time is up, remove it, rinse it with flowing water from the east, then place it in a mortar and grind it into powder for use.
