(1) It can tonify primordial Qi, promote hair growth, make the body feel light, nourish the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner), delay aging, and improve vision. It eliminates wind-toxin. When crushed and applied to sores, it stops bleeding and promotes flesh regeneration. The best quality is harvested before spring, characterized by a white color. Pickled in natural fragrant vinegar as a preserved vegetable, it benefits the human body. To treat bone-steaming consumption (Gu Zheng), soak one liang of Qinghao in urine for two nights, dry it, grind it into powder, and form pills; this is very effective in clearing heat from consumption.
(2) Additionally, for "Ghost Qi" (a term referring to sudden onset strange illnesses or mental abnormalities), take the seeds, grind them into powder, and administer with wine using a measure of one cun bi (square inch spoon); recovery will occur.
(3) Burn the herb to ash, leach the ash with water to obtain juice, and decoct it with Duan Shi (calcined mineral drug); this treats malignant sores and scars.
(1) Gu Mi (Zizania aquatica/Giant Water Bamboo) can induce wind stagnation in the five Zang organs and meridians, trigger hemorrhoids, cause drowsiness and lethargy, and lead to weakness in the back, shoulders, arms, and limbs.
(2) Additionally, there are various types of mushrooms; those growing on locust trees are superior. Those found in wild fields may be toxic and even fatal.
(3) Additionally, it tends to generate internal cold qi, causing mild abdominal pain.
Consuming too much makes one feel slightly cold; however, when taken with Cornus Officinalis Fruit (Shan Zhu Yu), it treats edema.
It treats itching but should not be consumed in large quantities.
(1) Gu Cai (the tender stem of Zizania aquatica): It clears pathogenic qi from the five Zang organs, and is effective for post-alcohol facial flushing, vitiligo, and red eyes. However, it is slippery to the intestines and stomach and should not be eaten in excess. For sudden heart pain caused by heat-toxin and wind-qi, it can be boiled with salt and vinegar for consumption.
(2) If heat symptoms arise from taking Dan Shi (mineral drugs), cook it with crucian carp to make soup; consuming three to two meals will result in recovery.
(3) Ju Shou (the tender shoot of Zizania aquatica): Cold in nature. It treats floating wind-heat in the chest and heart, but eating it induces cold qi. It nourishes teeth but damages sexual function (Yang Dao), causing coldness and slipperiness in the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner); it is best not to eat it.
(1) For heart pain caused by roundworms, with a cyan face, foaming at the mouth, approaching death: Take ten jin of Qinghao leaves, cut finely. Boil with three shi and three dou of water until thick like maltose syrup, then strain. Administer one sheng when the temperature is neutral (neither hot nor cold) on an empty stomach; the worms will be expelled. For severe cases, take again; fast overnight, and take again at dawn the next day.
(2) For suffering from hemorrhoids: Frequently boil bamboo leaves to extract clear juice and use it to cook rice.
(3) Additionally, for heat jaundice and five types of hemorrhoids: Crush and extract the juice, take one sheng in one dose; for severe cases, take again.
(4) For Dan Shi heat toxicity attacking the eyes causing swelling and pain: Take a handful of roots, wash them. Crush with a little water, squeeze out the juice, and drink it. If the swollen area is hot, crush the root and stem and apply it topically to the affected area.
