281. Tianzhao (Sky Canopy): There is a condition where the head swells like wearing a hat, called "Tianzhao." If the swelling reaches the eyebrows, it is difficult to treat. First, use red paper dipped in sesame oil to irradiate around the swelling (irradiating the red veins on the forehead). Then, mix Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian), Polygonati Rhizoma (Huafen), Minii Oxidum Rubrum (Huandan), and Talcum (Huashi) into a fine powder, blend with egg white, and apply. Reapply when dry. 284. Meichuang (Syphilis Chancre): A new verified formula for treating syphilitic chancre involves internally administering Cuandu Wan (Toxin-Expelling Pill). Mix Periostracum Cicadae (Chantui), Ophichtrus Skin (Shetui), Pangolin Scales (Shanjia), Erinaceus Skin (Ciwupi), Gleditsiae Spina (Zaoci), Sophorae Flos (Huaihua), Codonopsis Root (Fushen), Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma (Tufuling), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi), Coptidis Rhizoma (Chuanlian), and Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) into a powder. Form pills using rice vinegar paste. Take thirty pills with salt water.

285. Xiaochuan (Asthma): A miraculous formula for asthma. Apply patches to Feishu (BL13) acupoint located beside the third thoracic vertebra and Fengfu (DU16) acupoint on the spine; three applications can cure it permanently. Soak herbs in sesame oil first, add Minii Oxidum (Huandan) to form an ointment, then add Frankincense (Ruxiang) and Myrrha (Moyao), four qian each, to finalize the ointment for application. Internally administer Shegan Wan (Belamcanda Pill). For deficient persons, use Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Fritillariae Bulbus (Beimu), Bambusae Sap (Zhuli), and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiangzhi) taken warm. Shegan Wan formula uses Belamcandae Rhizoma (Shegan), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia), Distanthermae Flos (Kuandonghua), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Kuxingren), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi), Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi), Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus (Chuanbeimu), Poria (Jiefuling), Pruni Semen (Yuliren), and Glycyrrhizae Uredo (Zaojiazi), ground into powder, mixed with paste to make pills the size of wu zi seeds. Take ten pills with salt drink.

286. Jiuxu (Penile Swelling): A verified formula for pediatric penile swelling (Jiuxu) caused by wind-cold-heat pathogens affecting one section is treatable. Two sections are difficult; three sections are untreatable. Use three green onions, cut off heads and tails, scald with boiling water, split, and wrap around the penis three times. Then apply raw tobacco oil to the penis and tea oil to the scrotum and swollen areas. Next, stir-fry a bundle of green onions with one cup of red wine in an iron pan until hot, place under the penis while hot, replacing if cooled. Internally take Rehmanniae Radix (Xiaoshengdi), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhizi), Taraxaci Herba (Pugongying), Rheismi Radix (Jiujun), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishao), Angelicae Sinensis Radix cauda (Dangguiwei), Plantaginis Semen (Cheqianzi), Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao), Phaseoli Semen Rubrum (Chixiaodou), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Ganjie), and Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie), half a cup of aged wine, half a cup of well water, stew for the time it takes to burn one incense stick, sit still, and drink at once. Urinate more than ten times for immediate recovery.

Another formula: For mild cases, use one Ipomoeae Batatas (Baishulang), peeled and chopped (bought from dye shop), and half a pill of Baiqu (bought from snack shop), pound extremely fine, add one egg white and half tablespoon of liquor, mix well, spread on oil paper, apply to penis, three applications for cure.

Stir-fry fish swim bladder until yellow, take three qian each, add three mugwort leaves, put in one bowl of pure wine. Boil over double boiler for one incense stick duration, drink hot for immediate cure. Do not eat chicken meat within 100 days.

288. Shan Zheng (Hernia): Formula for treating hernia. Decoct Litchi Seed (Lizhihe) and drink for immediate cure. Combine Erchen Tang (Two Aged Things Decoction) with Siling San (Four Powders Powder), adding Foeniculi Fructus (Huixiang), Litchi Seed (Lizhihe), and Citri Grandis Semen (Juhe).

290. Ru Jie (Breast Knot): Formula for women's breast knots. Caused by infant breath blowing during sleep. Often suffers this condition. Use six Diandranthus Seeds (Dimiancaohe) mashed with red wine and applied; several applications bring cure.

291. Yin Du (Earthworm Poison): To resolve earthworm poison. Children sitting on wet ground often suffer earthworm poison causing penile and scrotal swelling. Apply duck blood, or have a Muscovy duck hold some saliva in its mouth, or apply duck saliva, or apply loess water; all are effective.

292. Sheng Pao (Blister Formation): Formula for blisters from long travel. Use one tablespoon of salt and one tablespoon of rice, mash and apply overnight, cover with paper. Flat next day.

Do not arbitrarily change dosages; tried and true.

294. Yu Qu Tan Bing (Preventive Phlegm Disease): Huatan San (Phlegm-Resolving Powder). When a newborn's umbilical cord is cut, apply this powder to the navel to permanently prevent phlegm diseases. Use Calcined Alum (Kufan) one and a half qian, Borax (Pengsha) five fen, Cinnabar (Zhusha) five fen, Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian) five li, and Moschus (Shexiang) five li, grind together finely and sprinkle; very effective.

296. Linchan Liangfang (Good Formula for Childbirth): Good formula for childbirth. Take more before delivery. Suitable for pre- and post-natal periods. For transverse/breech presentation or dead fetus, add one he of Glycine Max (Maladou), stir-fry until charred, add hot water and one large cup of child's urine, decoct and drink for miraculous effect. Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) one liang, Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (Chuanxiong) five qian, decoct in half water half wine and drink.

297. Nanchan (Difficult Labor): Verified formula for difficult labor. Specifically treats difficult labor and non-opening of pubic symphysis. For women with weak qi and blood, this expediting formula is miraculous; even dead fetus will be expelled. Use Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) one liang, Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (Chuanxiong) seven qian, a clump of human hair (calcined in tile until carbonized but retaining nature), large piece of Vinegar-processed Testudinis et Chelonis Carapax et Plastrum (Cu Zhi Guiban), grind into powder (raw turtle shell is better), decoct in clean water and drink.

298. Xiaochan (Spontaneous Abortion): Women with weak qi and blood prone to spontaneous abortion will never miscarry again after taking this. Formula uses Gutai Tang (Fetus-Securing Decoction). 299. Chanhou Yanfang (Postpartum Verified Formula): Newly revised experienced modified Shenghua Tang. Women should take this decoction immediately after childbirth. Removes stasis and generates new blood; take three to four doses consecutively. If no abdominal pain, no need to take. Add Codonopsis Radix (Dangshen) for qi deficiency, add Honey-fried Astragali Radix (Zhi Qi) for excessive sweating. Postpartum Tonifying Wonderful Formula: Treats various postpartum deficiencies, fever, night sweats, lactation fever, internal heat, etc. Use Codonopsis Radix (Dangshen) one liang, Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) five qian, grind to powder. First slice one pig kidney, add half he of glutinous rice and two stalks of scallion white, decoct in water until ready, then add medicine powder and decoct.

300. Ru Bu Han Jie (Cold Knot in Breast): Formula for women's cold-stagnation breast knot. Total 32 ingredients. Soak in refined large mill sesame oil for several days. Then use a new wok, boil oil and herbs together. Burn with mulberry wood. Remove when herb residue turns charcoal color, strain through bamboo sieve. Weigh precise amount of medicinal oil. Follow method to add Xian Dan (Line Dan) to make ointment. For every jin of medicinal oil, add half jin of Xian Dan. Basically, half the weight of oil in Xian Dan. Before making ointment, add three powder ingredients: Genuine Dragon's Blood (Zheng Xuemei), Frankincense (Ruxiang), Myrrha (Moyao), four qian each. Choose an auspicious day, purify oneself. Place Dragon's Blood, Frankincense, Myrrha, and powder in center of new wok, pour medicinal oil on top. Simmer gently. Stir constantly with mulberry stick to prevent settling and burning. When oil boils, weigh Xian Dan accurately and sprinkle evenly. Or use sieve for better uniformity. Xian Dan is Minii Oxidum (Huandan); select high quality, grind extremely fine. Soak in clear water for over a month or twenty days, changing water once or twice daily to remove salty taste. Longer soaking increases efficacy. If unable to do yourself, ask reputable pharmacy to prepare according to method. Never use unsoaked original Dan lightly; it may cause harm. Gentlemen beware. Total 47 guiding decoctions. When using guides, decoct first, remove dregs, then mix with pill and stew to dissolve for better effect. For emergencies, use guide decoction to take pill. 308. Chanhou Qitong (Postpartum Qi Pain): Unbearable postpartum blood-q pain. Shixiao San is best.

309. Wenyi (Plague): Leiji San specifically treats plague and sudden abdominal pain, cold limbs, blue-black face, vomiting/diarrhea cholera, Zhusha syndrome, and all sha syndromes. In the first year of Qianlong, plague raged in Guizhou, suddenly lightning struck stone wall at Danping Mountain writing this formula, saving countless lives. In Daoguang first year, soft-leg plague prevailed in Jiangnan provinces, treated with this formula with miraculous effect. Use Ya Zao and Beixixin each three qian half, Zhusha and Xionghuang each two qian half, Huoxiang three qian, Kufan and Baizhi each one qian, Jiegeng, Fangfeng, Muxiang, Guanzhong, Chenpi, Subohe, Faxia, Gancao each two qian, grind to extreme fine powder. Store in bottle sealed, carry with you. For emergencies, take three fen blown into nose, take two qian with ginger juice decoction, lie down briefly, sweat comes out and cured.

Chu Yi Jiuku Dan: Specifically treats all plague seasonal syndromes and cold/flu, whether transmitted meridians or not. Adult one pill, child half pill, mix with cool water and take. Sweating indicates cure. Severe cases take two doses continuously. After taking, if no sweat, strictly avoid hot soup/food. If sweating, no restriction. Formula: Mahuang, Ganjiang, Ming Tianma, Lvdoufen, Songluocha each one liang two qian, Sheng Gancao, Mingzhu Sha, Ming Xionghuang each eight qian, Sheng Dahuang two liang, grind to fine powder, honey make pills bullet-sized.

Tangjiang Yin: Treats four-season plagues. Use yellow sugar one cup, fresh ginger juice one cup, mix with large cup of boiling water, drink hot urgently. Cover blanket, sweat comes out and cured. Or chop pine needles, mix with wine and take, very appropriate.
