Fang Haishen (Releasing Evil Spirits) is also a type of Gu poison. If a person ingests this medicine, their forehead will inevitably turn scorched/black, they will have a fishy taste in the mouth, experience coma, irritability, see the forms of evil spirits, and hear the voices of evil spirits. They may feel as if they have committed a grave crime, or see evil officials arriving with iron chains and locks, or be chased by armed soldiers, often thinking of suicide. Those who do not know medicine will rarely survive; ten out of ten will die. The treatment formula involves using Chaihu Tang (Bupleurum Decoction) with modifications. One should abstain from salt and meat until the toxin is cleared and health returns naturally. After recovery, there is no need to abstain from fish and shrimp.
Chaihu Tang: Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) 4 qian, Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Sheng Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparatum), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus) each 3 qian, Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) 1 liang, Bai He (Lilii Bulbus) 5 qian, Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba) 6 qian, Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix) 1 qian. Decoct in water and take orally.
Another formula: Xia Ku Cao (Prunellae Spica) 2 liang, Zi Bei Fu Ping (Monochoriae Herba) 2 qian. Decoct in water and take orally.
For Zhong Haishen (Infected by Haishen), first use Zao Xin Tu (Caulis Trachycarpi Preparatus) mixed with cold water, clarified, and taken to induce vomiting. Alternatively, grind Bai Fan (Alumen) and Xi Cha Ye (Fine Tea Leaves) into powder, mix with cold water, and drink to induce vomiting. If poisoned through tea or wine, dozens of black spots will be vomited up; if poisoned through meat, one or two pieces of meat will be vomited up. Do not let dogs eat these black spots or meat. Burn them with fire, and the person who cast the Gu poison will die. She Gu (Snake Gu) is treated similarly. If the patient cannot sleep at night, crush Suan Zi (Allii Sativi Bulbus), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), and Xiong Huang (Realgar), add to hot water, and bathe the body, which is very effective.
Gu practitioners place bamboo leaves in water soaked with Gu medicine, transforming them into loaches. These are cooked and served to guests. After eating, the patient feels as if three to five loaches are moving inside the abdomen, sometimes rushing up the throat and sometimes descending to the anus, accompanied by constipation. Without treatment, death is inevitable. The treatment formula uses Xiong Huang (Realgar), Suan Zi (Allii Sativi Bulbus), and Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), swallowed with boiling water. Recovery occurs after diarrhea. After recovery, abstain from fish and shrimp for one to two years.
There is a folk custom called Wen Gu (Hearing Gu). A stone is placed on the road, marked with a thatched shelter or signs. When a person passes by, the stone jumps onto their body or enters their stomach. The abdomen becomes hard and solid. After three to four months, it begins to move, causing borborygmus (abdominal rumbling) and constipation, leading to gradual emaciation and weakness. Sometimes the stone flies into the hands, sometimes moves into the feet, which is extremely strange. Within three to five years, the person will inevitably die. The treatment formula uses Xiong Huang (Realgar), Suan Zi (Allii Sativi Bulbus), and Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), swallowed with boiling water. Recovery occurs after vomiting and diarrhea. There is no need to abstain from meat or salt. After recovery, abstain from fish and shrimp for one to two years.
