Half a jin (approx. 500g) of large earthworms, cleaned of mud, boiled in urine of a young boy to extract the juice for drinking; or fresh juice squeezed and mixed with urine of a young boy is also acceptable. This is a prescription from Ge Xian.
Another prescription: Boil the shells of newly hatched chicken eggs in water and drink the decoction; symptoms will settle immediately. This is an extraordinary prescription.
Yet another prescription: Decoct heart-of-the-stove soil (Caulis Longgu) in water, take three times daily until cured. Alternatively, apply a toad to the area above the heart; this is most excellent.
It is also effective for those who do not develop macules and papules. For severe cases, apply more toads, but avoid excessive use over the liver area.
In cases of typhoid fever with mania, eyes staring straight, tongue stiff, or accompanied by macules and papules, urgently scrape the back, both elbow creases, beside both breasts, and both popliteal fossae with a copper coin until blue-purple stasis appears. Immediately take one toad (do not use those with red eyes, red skin, or no "eight-character" pattern on the abdomen), cut open, remove internal organs, and apply it to the chest center (Shanzhong, CV17). It is not necessary to eat the toad's liver after removal; ultimately, the toad application is superior.
Another prescription: First place patterned silver on the navel, then take mud from a swallow's nest, mash and blend it, mix with an egg, and fry into a cake to apply. Replace when it cools; recover after several applications.
One seed of Croton tiglium L. (Badi Dou, 巴豆), finely ground and oil removed, rolled in paper and inserted into the nostril; the tongue will return to its normal position.
Another prescription: Place plum-blossom Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian, 冰片) on the vertex of the head; the best quality is ivory-white. Use half a fen (approx. 1.8g), grind into powder, and apply; the tongue will retract.
See the section on Dysphagia and Obstruction.
One jin (approx. 500g) of Lilii Bulbus (Baihe, 百合), soaked in water overnight, boiled to make a decoction for bathing, and consume the Lily bulb as well.
Apply water buffalo meat to the affected area; swelling subsides and pain stops. Alternatively, applying Qingliang Gao (Cooling Ointment) is most excellent (see the section on Burns and Scalds); applying rapeseed oil is also an option, or using tea leaves from Lu'an Prefecture... or adding Ginger Rhizome (Shengjiang, 生姜), roasted over fire, peeled, wrapped in cloth, twisted to extract juice, dipped in sesame oil, and applied to the inner and outer canthi of both eyes; effective. Or treat according to the various prescriptions for Jaundice in Volume 15; this is most excellent.
This condition is named Baihe Bing (Lily Disease). If sweating has already been induced, use seven whole Lily bulbs, soak them in spring water overnight. The next day, boil them in fresh spring water to obtain one sheng (approx. 200ml) of juice. Take two liang (approx. 60g) of Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu, 知母), boil in spring water to obtain one sheng of juice. Mix with the Lily juice and boil again to obtain one and a half sheng of liquid; divide and take. If emetic or purgative methods have already been used, use seven Lily bulbs, soak and boil as before, add one Egg Yolk (Qu Bai, 去白), divide and take. If purgative methods have already been used, use seven Lily bulbs, soak and boil as before, then use Hematitum (Zheshi, 赭石)... use
