Whenever taking medicines for regulating menstruation, it is advisable to take a few more doses during the menstrual period, so that the next cycle will be regular. If pills are used, they should be taken over a long period to be effective.
If the patient has a gentle temperament and no other diseases in general, this is attributed to abundant blood with heat. Use *Danggui Shen* (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Stem part) and *Chuanxiong* (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), each 0.7 qian; *Chishao* (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), *Shengdi* (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), *Zhimu* (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), *Maidong* (Radix Ophiopogonis), and *Digupi* (Cortex Lycii), each 1 qian; *Gancao* (Radix Glycyrrhizae), 0.5 qian. Decoct in water and take on an empty stomach.
If the patient has an irritable temperament, prone to anger and jealousy, this is attributed to both qi and blood being hot with stagnation. Use *Zhixiangfu* (Rhizoma Cyperi Preparated, stir-fried and ground), *Danggui Shen*, *Chuanxiong*, *Baishao* (Radix Paeoniae Alba), *Tiaohuang* (Radix Scutellariae Preparated, stir-fried), and *Huanglian* (Rhizoma Coptidis), each 1 qian; *Shenggancao* (Raw Radix Glycyrrhizae), 0.5 qian; *Shengdi*, 0.7 qian. Decoct in water and take.
If the patient is thin and has no other diseases in general, this is attributed to blood heat. Use *Danggui Shen*, *Shengdi*, *Chuanxiong*, *Chishao*, *Huangqin* (Radix Scutellariae, stir-fried), and *Huanglian* (Rhizoma Coptidis, stir-fried), each in equal parts, to make *Sanbu Wan* (Three Tonics Pill): specifically treats blood heat. *Huangqin*, *Huangbai* (Cortex Phellodendri), and *Huanglian* are all stir-fried, mixed in equal parts, formed into pills with honey, and taken with warm water.
If the patient is thin, generally ill, and has heat symptoms, this is attributed to internal injury of the Chong and Ren meridians. Use *Siwu Renshen Zhimu Tang* (Four Substances Decoction with Ginseng and Anemarrhena): *Danggui Shen*, *Baishao*, *Taidangshen* (Radix Codonopsis), *Shudi* (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), *Zhimu*, and *Maidong*, each 1 qian; *Chuanxiong*, 0.7 qian; *Zhigancao* (Honey-processed Radix Glycyrrhizae), 0.5 qian. Use *Jiang* (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) and *Zao* (Fructus Jujubae) as guides, decoct in water, and take before meals. It is also advisable to frequently take *Dihuang Wan* (Rehmannia Pill).
*Dihuang Wan*: Treats injuries to the Chong and Ren meridians in women, as well as kidney deficiency, blood exhaustion, blood deficiency, and amenorrhea. Use *Shudi* (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) 8 liang, *Shanyao* (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) 4 liang, *Shanzhuyu* (Fructus Corni) 4 liang, *Baifuling* (Sclerotium Poriae Cum Rosa) 3 liang, *Danpi* (Cortex Moutan, without woody core) 3 liang, *Zexie* (Rhizoma Alismatis, without hairs) 3 liang. Form into pills with honey and take on an empty stomach with warm water.
If one has mistakenly taken acrid-hot uterine-warming medicines, this is attributed to latent fire in the Chong and Ren meridians. Use *Siwu Jia Huangbai Zhimu Tang* (Four Substances Decoction plus Phellodendron and Anemarrhena): *Danggui Shen*, *Chishao*, *Shengdi*, *Huangbai* (Cortex Phellodendri, stir-fried), *Zhimu*, and *Mutong* (Caulis Akebiae), each 1 qian; *Chuanxiong*, 0.7 qian; *Shenggancao*, 0.5 qian. Decoct in water and take before meals. Then take *Sanbu Wan* (see above).
If the patient is obese, has much phlegm, and is prone to stagnation, this is attributed to blood deficiency with qi heat. Use *Danggui Shen*, *Chuanxiong*, and *Shengdi*, each 0.7 qian; *Chenpi* (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, without white pith), *Fa Banxia* (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparated)...
