Initially, the lesions are small like quassia seeds and large like chess pieces. They present as blistering vesicles with a red color, termed Huochi Chuang (Fire-Red Sores caused by intense fire-toxin), or have a white apex and red base, termed Tianhuo Chuang (Heaven-Fire Sores caused by epidemic heat-toxin). Both can spread over the entire body, accompanied by fever and pain, and upon rupture, discharge toxic fluid. Lesions predominantly on the upper body indicate excess wind-heat; frequent administration of Jiedu Xiexin Tang (Detoxifying Heart-Clearing Decoction) is indicated. Lesions predominantly on the lower body indicate excess damp-heat; frequent administration of Qingpi Chushi Yin (Spleen-Clearing Dampness-Removing Drink) is indicated. For unruptured initial lesions, apply Ruyi Jinhuang San (Ruyi Golden Yellow Powder) externally. For ruptured lesions discharging fluid, sprinkle Shizhen San externally to allow the sores to dry naturally. Boil a decoction of Gancao (Licorice Root) to wash the crusts, then apply medication. The formulas are detailed in the subsequent sections regarding main treatments and external applications.
Take Tuliuhuang (Earth Sulfur) 1 liang, Renyan (Arsenic Trioxide, highly toxic, use with caution) and Tieshu (Iron Rust) each 5 qian, Jiucai Gen (Root of Chinese Chive) and Congbai (White Part of Scallion) each 1.5 qian. Pound them thoroughly until extremely fine, spread inside a bowl, invert it over a small brick stove, and fumigate with burning Muye (Mugwort Leaf) until dry. Mix with Mayou (Sesame Oil), place the medicine in the palm, rub hands together until extremely hot, inhale the aroma frequently, then apply to the sores for excellent effect.
Another formula: Zhen Hongfen (True Red Powder), Qingfen (Calomel), Yaxiao (Saltpeter), mixed with Mayou (Sesame Oil) for topical application.
Another formula: Xionghuang (Realgar), Qingfen (Calomel), Yinzhu (Vermilion), Baifan (Alum), Yaxiao (Saltpeter), Songxiang (Rosin), Miduoseng (Litharge), Tonglv (Malachite), and You Toufa (Oily Hair). Place in an iron cup with Tongyou (Tung Oil) and boil into a powder. Pour into a groove on the ground, let cool and solidify into strips, grind, and apply. Effect is excellent. If itching occurs, add Jiaoqiao Mo (Powdered Pepper Shell).
This type of carbuncle often appears on the hands, feet, shoulders, and back, resembling red beans. Puncture to release fluid. Boil Yuntaicaiye (Leaves of Rape Plant) to make a decoction, drink one bowl, and consume several meals of cooked dry vegetables with minimal salt and soy sauce. In winter, grind the seeds and take orally.
Po Piao (Broken Gourd Shell), Bai Jiguanhua (White Cockcomb Flower), and Bai Luosike (White Snail Shell) are calcined (burnt to retain their properties) in equal parts. Add Xuexie (Dragon's Blood) and Shexiang (Musk) each 5 fen. Grind into powder, moisten with good wine, knead Shuai Ai (Cooked Mugwort with leaves) into a cake, and apply to Dingmen (Baihui, GV20). Fumigate with a heated iron until healed.
There is only a slight difference; the pus resembles bean juice. It disappears today but returns tomorrow. Crush Yuntaicai (Rape Shoots, i.e., Rapeseed stems) into a paste, place in a cloth bag, and warm in hot ashes.
Initially resembling Feizi (Prickly Heat/Miliaria), it gradually becomes like water blisters, feels like a burn, and the sore turns red. Urgently crush Yuntaicaiye (Rape Leaves) to extract juice, mix with Dahuang (Rhubarb), Mangxiao (Mirabilite), and Sheng [text cuts off here]
