Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) 5 fen, Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Qingpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride), and Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae) each 1 qian; Danpi (Cortex Moutan), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Recens), and Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) each 2 qian. These seven herbs serve as the base formula. Additional herbs should be added based on the specific tooth affected for decoction and administration. The recommended additions for each tooth location are listed below: The uppermost left teeth belong to the Gallbladder channel: add Huoqi (Radix Notopterygii) and Danshen (Radix Scutellariae Barbatae, note: context implies Longdancao/Dracocephalum or Gentiana root often used for gallbladder fire, here translated as Dragon Grass/Gentian Root per common TCM practice for 'Dan Cao', specifically Longdancao). *Correction*: "Dan Cao" usually refers to Longdancao (Radix Gentianae). Left lowermost teeth belong to the Liver channel: add Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) and Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae). Upper left middle teeth belong to the Stomach channel: add Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) and Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae). Lower left middle teeth belong to the Spleen channel: add Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) and Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba). Upper central incisors belong to the Heart channel: add Maidong (Rhizoma Ophiopogonis) and Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis). Lower central incisors belong to the Kidney channel: add Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri) and Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae). Upper right middle teeth belong to the Stomach channel: add Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) and Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae). Lower right middle teeth belong to the Spleen channel: add Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) and Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba). Uppermost right teeth belong to the Large Intestine channel: add Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) and Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus). Lowermost right teeth belong to the Lung channel: add Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) and Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis). Use Zhuye (Folium Bambusae) and Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) as guiding herbs. Decoct in water. Two doses will result in a cure. If there is pain throughout the entire mouth, add Renshen (Radix Ginseng) 5 fen.
Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Recens) each 5 qian; Maidong (Rhizoma Ophiopogonis) 2 qian (remove heart); Danpi (Cortex Moutan) and Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis) each 1.5 qian. This formula serves as the base. Subsequent modifications depend on symptoms: If the four upper central incisors indicate Heart Fire, add Tiaoqin (Radix Scutellariae), Mutong (Caulis Akebiae), and Dengxincao (Medulla Junci); if the four lower central incisors indicate Kidney Fire, add Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri), and Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae); if the left lower teeth indicate Liver Fire, add Longdancao (Radix Gentianae), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), and Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri); if the left upper teeth indicate Gallbladder Fire, add Qingdai (Lapis Azuritae) and Ziye (Folium Perillae); if the right lower teeth indicate Lung Fire, add Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis), Sangbai (Cortex Mori Radicis), and Tiaoqin (Radix Scutellariae); if the right upper teeth indicate Spleen Fire, add Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Zhuye (Folium Bambusae), and Yuanmingfen (Natrii Sulfas). All added herbs should be 1 qian. Decoct in water and administer. Symptom-specific adjustments yield miraculous efficacy.
Take a small piece of Songmujie (Pine knot), place it on the painful tooth, bite down firmly, and the pain will cease immediately.
Another prescription: Mix powder of raw Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) with Shaojiu (Baijiu/Spirit of Grain), brush onto the outer cheek, and the pain will stop immediately.
Yiren gen (Radix Coicis) 4 liang, decoct in water for gargling. Replace with fresh solution when it cools.
Another prescription: Burn Litchi (with shell) until carbonized but retaining its nature, grind into powder, and apply to the affected area to stop pain immediately.
Grind raw Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) into powder and apply to the area; this also strengthens the teeth.
Mu'er (Auricularia Judae) and Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae) in equal parts, decoct in water and drink frequently.
Another prescription: On the noon hour of the Dragon Boat Festival, soak Changpu root (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii) in saltwater, then dry in the sun. After the designated time, remove and store in a porcelain jar to prevent mold. When needed, cut a thin slice and apply to the painful area for immediate relief.
