For the treatment of sores and ulcers, one must first use this prescription to draw out the toxic fluid, and then apply a wound-healing agent to achieve efficacy. It is applicable to sit-boil sores (sores caused by prolonged sitting) and suppurating sores.
Take four taels of asphalt and two taels of red alum (Alumen Rubrum), grind them together into a fine powder, mix with sesame oil, and apply externally. This will cause fluid to exude from the sore, drawing out the toxicity. There may be slight pain, which must be endured.
If, after the previous prescription has drawn out all the toxicity, the sore does not heal and red flesh remains inside the edges, immediately use this medicine to close the wound. Take Erhaijie (Concha Heterodonis) [two qian], Chuanlianhuang (Coptidis Rhizoma) [one qian]... If itching is severe, it is miraculously effective.
When a person mistakenly consumes Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi) or Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui), resulting in carbuncles or sores named "Fudu Chuang" (Toxic Sore due to Aconite/Cinnamon), one must strictly avoid taking detoxifying and cooling agents, nor is it necessary to apply plasters. The key is to allow the tissue to necrose and ulcerate freely, using only Liu Yi San (Six-to-One Powder) applied topically. This can remove necrotic tissue and promote healing without changing other medicines.
Di Dongsheng from Xieqiao, nearly sixty years old, in the summer of the Gengxu year of the Qianlong reign, suffered from a Fudu Chuang on his waist due to the mistaken consumption of Aconite and Cinnamon. The lesion was as large as an ice plate, foul-smelling and putrid, difficult to approach. I taught him this method; he recovered completely in two months without changing medications. This is recorded here for reference. Those who believe will benefit.
Take leaves of the Tung tree (Vernicia fordii), steam them with vinegar, and apply as a poultice. This reduces fever and relieves pain, gradually closing the wound until healed.
Wash fresh bark of the Goji root (Lycii Radicis Cortex). Scrape off the white pith-like layer inside the bark in pieces and set aside. Decoct the rough outer bark, roots, and stems to make a wash solution. Use it to clean the area until pus and blood are completely removed. If dark/bad blood appears, wash it away as it comes forth; do not fear. After cleaning, apply the reserved white pith to the wound. Bleeding will stop naturally, scabs will form, and healing will occur.
Burn Spina Gleditsiae (Gleditsiae Spina) to ash while retaining its medicinal properties, and grind into a fine powder. Take three qian mixed with wine, followed by 3-5 rapeseed kernels for delivery.
Place sparrow droppings directly onto the center of the sore, depending on the size of the lesion (one grain or several grains). This will facilitate rupture. Alternatively, burn Snake Slough (Bombyx Batryticatus is incorrect here, should be Serpentis Skin / Ophichus skin - *Note: WHO term for snake skin is often not standardly listed as a single herb, but 'She Tui' refers to Ophichus skin or similar. In WHO standards, specific snake parts might vary, but generally 'Ophichus skin' or simply 'Snake skin'. Let's use 'Serpentis Cutis' or descriptive. Actually, WHO ITM lists 'Bombyx Batryticatus' as Tianma? No. 'She Tui' is usually 'Ophichus skin' or 'Snake slough'. Let's use 'Serpentis Slough' or keep Pinyin if no exact match. However, standard English for She Tui is often 'Snake Slough' or 'Ophichus Skin'. I will use 'Serpentis Slough' for clarity.) ground into ash (retaining property), mixed with lard, and applied. This promotes the emergence of the abscess head.
Grind Tian Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) into a powder and rub it over the affected area to stop itching.
Smoke the affected area with burning cow dung. Inducing sweating leads to recovery.
Dryly rub the perimeter of the sore with table salt to stop itching. Alternatively, grind Cicada Slough (Cicadae Periostracum) into powder and apply, or decoct and wash to relieve itching.
For itching caused by sore crusts, crush Bai Bian Dou (Dolichoris Lablab Semen Album) into a powder and apply thickly.
For unbearable pain from swollen toxins, mash Bajiao Gen (Musa Basjoo Root) and apply as a paste.
For non-healing wounds, sprinkle Qin Jiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) powder. Boil Sang Ye (Mori Folium) in vinegar for one rolling boil, remove immediately, and apply as a dressing.
