At the initial stage of dysentery, immediately stir-fry Hawthorn Fruit (Shanzha) on a tile until yellow. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct in water to make a concentrated liquid, mix with red and white sugar, and take orally four to five times daily. This can prevent the onset of full-blown dysentery; it is suitable for the elderly, children, men, and women.
Alternatively, take Five-Grain Insects (Wugu Chong), stir-fry them on a tile until yellow, grind into powder, add red and white sugar, and take with boiling water.
Alternatively, take Chicken Gizzard Membrane (Jineijin, i.e., the lining of the chicken's gizzard), bake it on a tile until charred but retaining its medicinal properties, grind into powder. Alternatively, mix with Stone Lotus Seed (Shi Lianshi), grind into fine powder, add red and white sugar, mix with water, and take orally.
Additionally, Ganlu Yin (Sweet Dew Decoction) for treating dysentery: Remove pits from 3 qian of Smoked Plum (Wumei), remove pits from 5 qian of Hawthorn Fruit (Shanzha), and use 2 qian of white granulated sugar. Decoct or steep in hot water, and drink as tea intermittently.
Additionally, Ginger Tea Drink (Jiang Cha Yin): Treats the initial stages of bloody and purulent dysentery, cold-and-heat malaria, and vomiting. Use 3 qian each of aged fine tea leaves and old ginger root (retain the peel for bloody dysentery, remove the peel for purulent dysentery). Decoct in water and take orally.
Additionally, steam dried Purslane (Machixian) until cooked. For red and white dysentery, add red and white sugar; consuming large amounts is advisable.
Shenxiang Wan (Coptis and Aucklandia Pill): Extremely effective for treating red and white dysentery. Use 6 qian of Coptis Rhizome (Kushen), 4 qian of Aucklandia Root (Muxiang, not roasted over fire), and 5 qian of Licorice Root (Gancao). Grind all into powder, mix with rice paste, and form into pills.
Shenfang (Divine Prescription for Dysentery): Stir-fry 4 liang of clean Hawthorn Flesh (Zharou), 3 liang of Plantago Seed (Cheqianzi), and 5 qian each of Amomum Seed Powder (Sharenmo) and Guangmuxiang (Aucklandia Root, not roasted over fire). Grind all into powder, mix with brown sugar, and take orally. This prescription is extremely effective at the initial stage of dysentery. It also treats diarrhea.
Another prescription: On the third day of the third lunar month, collect Shepherd's Purse flowers (Jicaihua) and air-dry them. Wait until autumn to treat red and white dysentery; add a small amount of red and white sugar, decoct in water, and take orally to achieve a cure.
Another prescription: Use 1 liang of Oiled Angelica Sinensis Root (You Danggui), 3 qian of Aurantium Fruit (Zhike, stir-fried with bran), and 5 qian of Scutellaria Root (Huangqin). Decoct in water and take orally; decoct the dregs again for a second dose. Avoid physical exertion and greasy/fishy foods. The heavy use of Danggui aims to utilize its slippery and moistening properties; Zhike specifically promotes bowel movement; Huangqin clears summer-heat and resolves heat. This prescription has repeatedly shown miraculous effects.
