Abdominal carbuncle is also known as intestinal abscess. Treat it according to the various formulas for intestinal abscess mentioned above.
See the formula in the "Abdomen" section.
See the formula in the "Sea Bottom" section.
See the formula in the "Neck and Head" section.
All see the "Back" section.
See the formula under "Carbuncles and Ulcers - Horizontal Condition".
This is called Gan Shi (Gangrenous erosion), caused by the binding of wind-cold pathogens, leading to stagnation of Qi and blood. Use silkworm cocoons; place five fen of Bai Fan (Alumen, Alum) into each cocoon, roast over fire. For every one liang of Bai Fan, add five qian of Tuo Seng (Calamine, Calamina) and one qian of Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), grind into powder, and apply externally mixed with honey.
This results from the accidental ingestion of Qing Fen (Calomel, Mercurous Chloride) and Dan Shi (Cinnabar and other mineral drugs), causing toxin accumulation in the sinews and bones, failing to heal for a long time. Refer to the formula for Qing Fen toxicity in the "Rescue from Various Toxins" section for treatment.
This is Dan Du (Erysipelas). Treat it according to the various formulas for You Feng Dan Du (Wandering Wind Erysipelas) listed below.
This is Liu Zhu (Flowing Deposit/Cellulitis). It differs from the sudden onset of You Feng Dan Du. Treat it according to the Liu Zhu formulas in the "Yang Ju" section.
Whenever Ding Chuang (Malignant Carbuncle/Furuncle) heals but recurs, it is because the root of the Ding has not been removed. If not treated urgently, recurrence will make the root deep and difficult to cure. The method for extracting the Ding root is described later.
Ding Chuang develops most rapidly; some may die by evening if developed in the morning, or die immediately upon development. Some survive three to five days, dying after a month or half a month. Its toxicity is extremely fierce. Symptoms may include chills and fever, numbness, vomiting, irritability, dizziness and blurred vision, stiff tongue and dry mouth, blackish-blue hands and feet, abdominal distension and fullness, mental depression and fatigue, or confused speech. These are all symptoms of Ding Chuang. The shape may be large or small, long or round; the color may be white, yellow, red, or purple, possibly with red streaks. There are many names and colors, but the treatment principle is the same. If differentiation is unclear, have the patient chew raw soybeans. If there is no bean-like odor, it is Ding Chuang.
Ding Chuang often occurs in hidden areas; it may be painful or painless, itchy or non-itchy. Patients often do not notice its onset. If not treated early, it easily leads to mishandling. Some develop chills and fever for several days before the lesion appears; others appear immediately. Initially, it is the size of a millet grain, or varies in size. If chills, fever, numbness, itching, or vomiting occur, carefully examine the entire body, paying special attention to the beard, hair, eyes, ears, mouth, nose, under the shoulders, both axillae, fingernail and toenail folds, anus, and vulva. Inspect these areas multiple times a day. If found, treat according to the formula. If red spots appear on the anterior chest (heart pit) or posterior back, treat according to the Yang Mao Ding (Sheep Wool Ding) formula below. If unable to locate it, take a small amount of steam condensation residue from a steamer basket and place it in the mouth. A specific spot will become severely painful, indicating the location of the Ding. Urgently puncture to drain foul blood until healthy blood appears. For various sores and Dao Lian Ding (Knife Scythe Ding), needles and knives are contraindicated; for other Dings, they are not forbidden. If the toxicity is severe, urgently administer Hu Xin San (Heart-Protecting Powder) (see formulas for carbuncles and toxins) or one bowl of Rapeseed Oil (true Sesame Oil is also acceptable) to prevent toxic vapors from attacking the heart. Drinking Ju Hua Yin (Chrysanthemum Drink) is also effective.
Spider Toxin Extraction Method: First, pierce the head of the Ding with a porcelain shard. Find a live spider (the larger, the better) and place it on the Ding. Upon seeing it, the spider will naturally [absorb the toxin].
Ju Hua Yin (Chrysanthemum Drink): Take fresh juice from Bai Ju Hua Ye (Chrysanthemi Folium, including roots) by crushing, one tea cup. Mix with boiling wine and drink. Boiling with wine is also possible (but less effective than fresh juice).
Zu Ji Da Ji Gao (Note: Textual corruption likely refers to a specific plaster, literally "Foot Giant Spurge Plaster"): Apply Da Ji Gao (see formulas for carbuncles and toxins). Healing occurs immediately. Reapply upon recurrence; it is invariably miraculous.
Di Ding Yin (Vinca Drink): Zi Hua Di Ding (Vincae Herba) one liang, Bai Fan (Alumen) and Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) three qian each, Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos) three liang. Decoct and drink. Effective for all types of Ding. One person had Hong Si Ding (Red Streak Ding) spreading to the side of the breast; after taking this, he healed immediately. Truly a miraculous formula.
Cong Fan San (Scallion and Alum Powder): Ming Fan (Alumen) three qian (finely ground), seven Cong Bai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus). Grind together until paste-like. Divide into seven portions. Each portion is taken with a cup of hot wine. After finishing, sleep covered to induce sweating. If no sweat occurs, drink another cup of Cong Tou Tang (Scallion Head Decoction). Soon, profuse sweating will occur, and the illness will vanish. This formula treats not only Ding but all malignant conditions; it is especially effective for early-stage lesions that have not yet suppurated.
Yan You Gao (Tobacco Tar Ointment): Use tobacco tar from the pipe stem. Apply thickly around the periphery, leaving the head uncovered. Shortly, the Ding will rupture and discharge fluid, leading to healing. Miraculous efficacy. If red streaks are present, apply the tar three fen away from the streak to stop its spread.
Another Formula: Apply thickly with yellow loose chicken manure around the periphery. Puncture the head but do not apply medicine to it. Extremely effective.
Another Formula: Chew raw soybeans thoroughly and apply as a poultice. Extremely effective.
