In cases of threatened miscarriage during the second or third month of pregnancy, it is generally due to long-standing uterine deficiency and a dual weakness of Qi and Blood, which fail to secure the Yuan Qi and nourish the fetus, leading to fetal restlessness and impending expulsion. In such urgent situations, An Tai Yin (Fetus-Securing Decoction) should be administered immediately to preserve the pregnancy. If there has been a history of prior miscarriage, Da Zao Wan (Great Creation Pill) may be taken first, followed by Du Zhong Wan (Eucommia Pill), thereby preventing mid-term miscarriage.
Mr. Tang stated: Mid-term miscarriages often occur in the third, fifth, and seventh months. If a previous miscarriage occurred in a specific month, it is likely to recur in the same month subsequently. Therefore, if a miscarriage previously occurred in the third month, one must take several doses of herbs that clear heat, tonify Qi, and secure the fetus half a month before the expected date to replenish the deficiency. For those who miscarry in the fifth or seventh months, medication should also be taken prophylactically half a month prior to prevent complications. This advice pertains specifically to pregnancies complicated by internal heat. The third, fifth, and seventh months are considered Yang months; since fire can consume and melt, these periods are prone to such issues.
