Pediatric sudden abdominal pain presents with varying symptoms. Some cases involve pain due to heat retention; the pain is usually mild, occurring only a few times a day. In severe cases, the pain may radiate upward from the lower abdomen. After an episode of pain, there may be a period of relief, followed by recurrence after a long interval. These cases are suitable for treatment with cooling herbs combined with herbs that promote free flow. Other cases involve pain due to cold invasion combined with dampness; the pain is usually urgent and continuous with little cessation. In severe cases, it feels like knife-cutting, accompanied by nausea without vomiting, urge to defecate without success, cold hands and feet, and a bluish complexion. These cases are suitable for treatment with dispersing and ascending herbs combined with digestion-promoting herbs. There are also cases of worm-induced pain, where pain is triggered by the aroma of fried or roasted foods. Treatment should use herbs such as *Meliae Cortex* (Kulianpi) and *Quisqualis Semen* (Shijunrou) to kill parasites, which will stop the pain naturally. For specific management, refer to the "Worm Diseases" section.

Dan Douchi (Fermented Soybean), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) each 2 qian (chopped); Congbai (Scallion Stem) 5 stalks; Yan (Salt) 1 liang. Stir-fry together until hot, place on the umbilicus for moxibustion-like warming (ironing). Effective.
Another prescription: Boil Cong (Scallion) and Jiang (Ginger) into a strong decoction to wash the abdomen. Separately, crush Cong and Jiang, stir-fry until hot, form into cakes, and apply to the umbilicus. Recovery occurs after some time.
Another prescription: Zhike (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit) 1 qian, Binglang (Areca Seed) 1 piece, Chenxiang (Aquilaria Lignum), Guangxiang (Agastaches Herba) each a small amount. Decoct in water and take orally.
Another prescription: Ruxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha) in equal parts, ground into fine powder. Mix with water prepared by grinding Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) or boiling water, and take orally.
Infants within one month of age may present with umbilical herniation (Umbilical Protrusion), where the navel is shiny, swollen like an inflated balloon, making a slight sound when pressed, and appears red and swollen, which is alarming. This is caused by cutting the umbilical cord before bathing, or by loose binding, allowing wind-damp pathogens to enter internally. Use Musi (Ostreae Concha, calcined) and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) each 5 qian, Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas) 1 qian, ground into powder. Mix with water infused from Snails (Tianluo) to make a paste of 1-2 qian, and apply to the umbilicus.
Another prescription: Fuling (Poria), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) each 1 qian, Gancao (Licorice Root) 0.2 fen, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 0.3 fen, Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla) 0.3 fen. Decoct in water and administer orally. One dose brings relief.
Another prescription: Hongfandou (Red Rice Bean), Dan Douchi (Fermented Soybean), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, skin and navel removed), Bailian (Bletillae Rhizoma) each 1 qian. Ground into powder. Mix with natural juice of Banana Plant (Bajiao) and apply to the umbilicus.
