Apply dry ginger powder externally, or apply pepper powder externally. Initially feeling swelling and pain, after a short while the swelling subsides and pain stops, and one is safe within three days.
This condition is most feared for recurring every seven days. During an attack, although there is no wind in the sky, the patient feels strong wind and hides under the bedclothes with head covered; this is not a good omen. If after twenty-one days (three sevens) there is no aversion to wind, it is treatable. When bitten, first check the top of the head; if there are two or three red hairs, pluck them out urgently, which is most critical. Then, in a windless place, wash away dirty blood with cold tea, apply crushed almonds to the wound, and internally drink one bowl of leek juice. Take another bowl every seven days, totaling seven bowls over forty-nine days. Cover the wound with a boiled egg white, and burn moxa wool on top dozens of times. Avoid salt and vinegar within one hundred days; avoid pork, fishy smells, alcohol, and sexual indulgence within one year; avoid dog meat, silkworm cocoons, and red adzuki beans for life, to ensure survival. Otherwise, nine out of ten will die. This is a wonderful prescription by Ge Xian. It is recorded that a mad dog bit three people in one day, and only one survived using this prescription; its efficacy has been personally witnessed. Do not mistakenly consume *Mylabris* (Banmao) poison, which causes unbearable pain in urination. To resolve *Mylabris* toxicity, refer to the prescription in the section "Rescuing Various Poisons".
Another prescription: Use *Rohdea japonica* (Wannianqing) grown in flower pots, crush the whole plant including roots, squeeze out the juice, and administer orally. If small dogs form blood clots in the abdomen, they will be excreted through stool. It treats cases regardless of how long ago the bite occurred, with no dietary restrictions, truly a celestial prescription. The *Rohdea japonica* has leaves about one to two inches wide and eight to nine inches high; those that are old and lush are suitable.
Another prescription: Mad dog bites are invariably fatal if untreated. Using drugs containing toxic ingredients like *Mylabris* causes unbearable urinary pain, and within one hundred days, one must avoid hearing gongs and cannons. Furthermore, if the drug contains *Mylabris*, one must avoid being near ramie plants for life, otherwise the disease will recur. Now, a new prescription is found: taking it can gradually eliminate toxins without restrictions on gongs, cannons, or ramie. However, for half a year, avoid alcohol, sexual indulgence, pork, fishy smells, salt, vinegar, scallions, garlic, and all triggering foods. The prescription uses 3 qian of copper sulfate (crushed), and alum [Note: Original text "明 疑而" appears corrupted, inferred as Alum/Mingfan based on context], decocted in water and taken. It eliminates toxins and imposes no restrictions on gongs, cannons, or ramie, only requiring avoidance of alcohol, sex, pork, fishy smells, salt, vinegar, scallions, garlic, and all triggering foods for six months.
Another prescription: Immediately upon being bitten, use two clay wine pots. Fill them with good liquor, boil to remove alcohol fumes, then press the pot openings onto the wound to extract dirty black blood. When full, the suction releases naturally. Repeat with another pot, alternating until all blood is extracted; this is extremely effective. Alternatively, cut open a toad (specifically the cane toad/Chanshu, but not those with red eyes or lacking the 'eight-character' pattern on the belly), and apply the flesh and viscera to the wound, changing once daily (bury the used ones in soil).
Another prescription: Upon being bitten, grind fermented soybeans (Douchi) into powder, mix with sesame oil to make thick pills the size of marbles. Frequently roll and rub these pills on the wound. If dog hair appears on the pill, it indicates the toxin is exiting; replace the pill and continue rubbing until no more hair appears. This is miraculous. Observe all previous dietary restrictions and frequently eat almonds to prevent toxicity. Alternatively, use earthworm feces (also known as Qu Ni), mix with sesame oil into pills, and apply.
Another prescription: Take half a walnut shell, fill it with human feces, cover the wound with locust tree bark, then cover with the walnut shell. Burn moxa on the walnut shell until the whole body sweats and the patient feels exhausted, then recovers. This is simple and highly effective. Alternatively, apply thick human feces to the wound, cover with a boiled egg white, and burn moxa dozens of times; this is even better.
Another prescription: Decoct dragon's teeth (also known as *Verbena officinalis*) and Chinese water chestnuts (*Eleocharis tuberosa*) in water and drink. Extremely effective.
Another prescription: Treat according to the method for snake bites using tobacco oil described later. Tobacco oil is pungent; if the patient does not feel pungency after ingestion, it is treatable. This is because dogs go mad from smelling snake venom, so it can be treated similarly to snake bites.
Another prescription: Crush root bark of wolfberry (Digupi, i.e., *Lycium chinense* root bark), decoct in wine, take for one or two days, drinking it as tea. There will be no subsequent complications forever.
