Pingsha (Standard Comparison): This chapter appears in Volume 15, Chapter 59 "Qi Fu Lun" (Discussion on Qi Orifices) of the *Suwen* (Basic Questions), and also in Volumes 3, Chapters 1-22 of the *Jiaying Jing* (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion), though the textual arrangement differs from this version.

The points where the Qi of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian emerges number seventy-three: one point at each inner corner of the eyebrows (Zanzhu BL-2, totaling two. Pingsha: The *Suwen* states seventy-eight points. Wang Bing's commentary says: Including the floating and thin Qi that communicates, it should be ninety-three points, not seventy-eight. The points emerging from the main meridians are seventy-eight, and those communicating via floating and thin Qi are fifteen, making up the total. This differs from both the text and Yang Shangshan's annotation in this book.) Two cun into the hairline at the nape, with an interval of half a cun (One cun into the hairline on the forehead, and one cun into the hairline from the nape, hence "two cun into the hairline at the nape." There is also a place with an interval of one and a half cun, hence "half a cun." Pingsha: The *Suwen* has the character "zhi" (to) after "nape," and "two cun interval half cun" is written as "three and a half cun.") Five rows laterally, spaced two cun apart; the floating Qi within the skin comprises five rows (In the *Mingtang Jing*, the lateral spacing is one and a half cun, differing here. The so-called floating Qi refers to the floating Qi of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian beneath these five rows of points. Pingsha: "Two cun" in the *Suwen* is "three cun." Wang Bing's commentary attributes this to the locations of Dazhu BL-11 and Fengmen BL-12. Lin Yi et al.'s *Xinzhengjiao* state that this refers to the five rows of points mentioned later regarding floating Qi in the skin. Moreover, Dazhu BL-11 is lateral to the first thoracic vertebra, and Fengmen BL-12 is lateral to the second thoracic vertebra; the distance from the hairline exceeds three and a half cun, making the error obvious. Thus, Yang Shangshan's annotation in this book is correct, while Wang Bing's in the *Suwen* is incorrect.) Each row has five points, totaling twenty-five points (These twenty-five points are located on the face and head, entering the hairline one cun above, circulating through high areas. Counting horizontally across the five meridians, there are five locations, each with five points. "Current" refers to Xinhui GV-22 [Note: Text says Yahui, likely a typo for Xinhui or similar midline point], Qian Ding GV-21, Baihui GV-20, Hou Ding GV-17, and Jiangjian GV-19, totaling five. Lateral to the Du Meridian, the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian has Wuchu BL-3, Chengguang BL-38, Tongtian BL-37, Luoque BL-36, and Yuzhen BL-9, totaling ten on both sides. Lateral to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian has Linqi GB-15, Mucuang GB-14, Zhengying GB-13, Chengling GB-12, and Naokong GB-20, totaling ten on both sides. Since the Taiyang Meridian is the general leader of the two Yang meridians, all these points are governed by the Taiyang, totaling twenty-seven. Pingsha: In the annotation, "Yahui" in the *Suwen* and *Jiaying Jing* is written as "Xiahui"; the character "Ya" is likely an ancient form of "Xin".) One point on each side of the large tendon in the middle of the neck (Tianzhu BL-10 on both sides, totaling twenty-nine points.) One point on each side of Fengfu GV-16 (Tianyou TE-16 on both sides, totaling thirty-one points. Pingsha: In the annotation, Tianyou TE-16 in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary is written as Fengchi GB-20. *Xinzhengjiao* states: According to the *Jiaying Jing*, Fengchi GB-20 is the intersection of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and the Yangwei Mai, not emitted by the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. This annotation adds six points—Dazhu BL-11, Fengmen BL-12, and Fengchi GB-20—to the count of ninety-three, exceeding the total.) From the sides of the spine down to the coccyx, over twenty-one segments and fifteen intervals, there is one point in each interval (From Dazhu GV-14 down to the coccyx, over twenty-one segments and fifteen intervals, there is one Shu point on each side of the interval, totaling thirty Shu points, and sixty-one points overall. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "xia ji" (beside the spine) is written as "xia bei" (beside the back); "kao" (coccyx) has the character "wei" (tail) added; "ge you yi" (each has one) is written as "ge yi". Wang Bing's commentary states: For "one in each of the fifteen intervals," the current *Zhonggao Kongxue Tujing* retains thirteen points, totaling twenty-six on both sides: Fufen BL-43, Pohu BL-42, Shen Tang BL-44, Ge Guan BL-47, Hun Men BL-48, Yang Gang BL-49, Yi She BL-50, Wei Cang BL-51, Huang Men BL-52, Zhi Shi BL-53, Baohuang BL-54, and Zhizhong BL-55. The *Jiaying Jing* records points from the second thoracic vertebra, three cun lateral to the spine, down to the twenty-first vertebra, totaling twenty-six points lateral to the spine. The point names from Fufen BL-43 downwards match Wang Bing's commentary. However, the *Jiaying Jing* starts from the second thoracic vertebra, whereas this book's annotation starts from Dazhu GV-14, creating a discrepancy. Furthermore, the text says "one in each of the fifteen intervals," and Yang's annotation says "one Shu point on each side of the fifteen intervals," which aligns with the text, but unfortunately does not detail the point names.) Six points from Weizhong BL-40 down to the side of the little toe (From the little toe up to Weizhong BL-40, there are twelve points on both sides including Jing-River-Stream-Source-He-Sea points, totaling seventy-three points. Pingsha: The *Suwen* adds twelve characters before Weizhong: "Five Shu points of the Zang organs each five, Six Shu points of the Fu organs each six." The character "ge" (each) is added before "liu shu" (six points).)

The points where the Qi of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian emerges number fifty-two: two points at each upper corner of the head (Tenchong GB-9 and Qubin GB-7 on both sides, totaling four points. Pingsha: Fifty in the *Suwen* is written as sixty.) One point at the upper front corner of each ear (Hanyan GB-7 on both sides, totaling six points. Pingsha: The *Suwen* adds eight characters before "ear": "Five points inside the hairline directly above the eyes." Yuan Ke mistakenly printed Hanyan as Lingyan.) One point for Keyzhu-ren (Shangguan GB-3 on both sides, totaling eight points. Pingsha: Before Keyzhu-ren, the *Suwen* adds eleven characters: "One below the lower front corner of the ear, one below each sharp hair.") One point for Xiaguan ST-7 (Xiaguan ST-7 at the temporal artery in front of the ear, two points, totaling ten points. Pingsha: Before Xiaguan, the *Suwen* adds six characters: "One in the depression behind each ear.") One point behind the jaw below the ear (Daying ST-4, also known as Suikong, two points, totaling twelve points. Pingsha: In the annotation, Daying ST-4 in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary is written as Jiache ST-6.) One point for Quepen LI-15 (Quepen LI-15, also known as Tiangu, two points, totaling fourteen points.) One point three cun below the axilla and one point in each of the eight spaces below the hypochondrium (Three points between three cun below the axilla on both sides: Quanlin GB-9, Zhejin GB-24, and Tianchi GB-1. Three points from the hypochondrium to the eighth intercostal space: Zhangmen LR-13, Weidao GB-26, and Riyue GB-24. These are emitted by the main Qi. Fuai SP-15 and Dahuang SP-15 are not explicitly stated as emitted by the main Qi but are close to the Qi of these three meridians. Daismai GB-26 and Wushu GB-26 are reached by the branch Qi of Shaoyang. One point above, reached by the collateral branch of Shaoyang. Totaling twenty-two points on both sides, and thirty-six points overall. Thus, three cun below the axilla is the hypochondrium, and outside the eight spaces below the hypochondrium is the hip, distinguishing the terms hip and hypochondrium. Pingsha: The *Suwen* does not repeat the character "xia" (below). This annotation totals twenty-two points on both sides, whereas the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary totals eighteen, excluding the four points of Fuai SP-15 and Dahuang SP-15. The point above is written as Juliao.) One point on each side of the center of the hip pivot (Huantiao GB-30 and Juliao GB-29 on both sides, totaling forty points. Pingsha: In the annotation, Juliao GB-29 is absent in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary.) Six points from below the knee to the base of the second toe (Six points of the Foot-Shaoyang Jing-River-Stream-Source-He-Sea points, twelve on both sides, totaling fifty-two points.)

The points where the Qi of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian emerges number sixty-two: three points beside the hairline on the frontal skull (Toutwei ST-8, Benshen ST-4, and Qucha ST-6 on both sides, totaling six points. Pingsha: Sixty-two in the *Suwen* is written as sixty-eight. In the annotation, Benshen ST-4 and Qucha ST-6 in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary are written as Xuanlu GB-7 and Yangbai GB-14.) One point in each nasal bone cavity (Qiu, pronounced qu liu fan, means the surface of the nose. Some say it refers to nasal congestion disease, which is incorrect. Quanliao SI-18, two points, totaling eight points. Although the *Mingtang Jing* does not state they emit Qi, the main and branch meridians of the Yangming ascend to tie with the eye system, thus reaching Quanliao SI-18. Pingsha: In the annotation, Quanliao SI-18 in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary is written as Sibai ST-2.) One point in each bone cavity of Daying ST-4 (Twenty points on both sides. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "bone cavity" is written as "bone kong". Below "each one", the *Suwen* adds "Renying ST-17 each one".) One point in each bone outside Quepen LI-15 (Tiantu CV-22 on both sides, totaling twelve points. Tiantu CV-22 is where the large collateral of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian reaches. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, there is the character "kong" (empty/cavity) after "bone". In the annotation, Tiantu CV-22 in the *Suwen* is written as Tianchu.) One point in each bone space in the chest (Yizhong refers to Yingchuang ST-16. Two points on both sides, totaling fourteen points. Pingsha: In the annotation, Yingchuang ST-16 on both sides in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary includes six points: Qihu ST-1, Kukufang ST-19, Wuyi ST-17, Ruzhong ST-17, Rugen ST-18, and Yingchuang ST-16.) Five points outside Jiuwei CV-15, three cun below the breast, and five points beside the stomach wall (Rugen ST-18, Burong ST-21, Chengman ST-22, Liangmen ST-25, and Guanmen ST-23, totaling ten points on both sides, and twenty-four points overall. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "wan" is written as "wan" (upper abdomen). Wang Bing's commentary lacks Rugen ST-18 but includes Taiyi SP-15.) Three points each three cun wide beside the umbilicus (Taiyi SP-15, Rourumen ST-24, and Tianshu ST-25, totaling six points on both sides, and thirty points overall. Pingsha: In the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary, Taiyi SP-15 is absent, but Wailing ST-29 is present. "Rourou" is written as "Rouroumen". The *Jiaying Jing* agrees.) Six points each two cun below the umbilicus (Wailing ST-29, Taiju ST-42, Shuidao ST-28, Guilai ST-29, Fushé SP-13, and Chongmen SP-12, totaling twelve points on both sides, and forty-two points overall. The points of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian have no separate count, so they are included in the Yangming. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "each six" is written as "each three". Wang Bing's commentary only lists Shuidao ST-28, Taiju ST-42, and Guilai ST-29, lacking Wailing ST-29, Fushé SP-13, and Chongmen SP-12. Checking shows Fushé SP-13 and Chongmen SP-12 belong to the Taiyin, hence the note.) One point for each Qi Street artery (Qi Jie, also known as Qichong ST-30, two points on both sides, totaling forty-four points. Pingsha: In the *Jiaying Jing*, Qi Jie is written as Qichong ST-30.) One point above Futu ST-32 (Biguan ST-31, two points, totaling forty-six points.) Eight points from below Sanli ST-36 to the middle toe of the foot, distributed among the acupoints above (Six points of Jing-River-Stream-Source-He-Sea plus Shangjixu ST-37 and Xiajixu ST-39, totaling sixteen points on both sides, and sixty-two points overall. Shangjixu ST-37 combines with the Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-Yangming, and Xiajixu ST-39 combines with the Small Intestine Meridian of Hand-Taiyang, hence sixteen points on both sides. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "fen shang" is written as "fen zhi".)

The points where the Qi of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian emerges number twenty-six points (Thirty was mistakenly written as twenty. Pingsha: Twenty in the *Suwen* is written as thirty.) One point at each inner canthus (Jingming BL-1 on both sides, two points.) One point in each bone cavity below Jugu SI-1 (Jugu SI-1 on both sides, four points. Pingsha: Above Jugu SI-1, the *Suwen* adds eighteen characters: "One outside each eye, one below each nasal bone, one above each ear lobe, one in each ear." Below Jugu SI-1, the *Suwen* lacks the characters "xia gu" (lower bone).) One point in each bone cavity above the elbow crease (Quyuan SI-13 on both sides, six points. Pingsha: In the annotation, Quyuan SI-13 in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary is written as Bingfeng Shu.) One point in each depression protruding from the cervical vertebrae (Jianjing GB-21, two points, eight points. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "chu xian" (protruding depression) is written as "shang xian" (upper depression).) One point four cun above Tianrong SI-17 (The Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian is near Tianrong SI-17, but the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian does not reach Tianrong SI-17. It is believed that "Tianrong" is a typo. Unclear where it emits. Eight points on both sides, totaling sixteen points. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, Tianrong SI-17 is written as Tianchu SI-16. Wang Bing's commentary mentions Tianchu SI-16 and Qiaoyin GB-11, totaling four points. This annotation suspects "Tianrong" is a typo. Examining the *Jiaying Jing*, Tianchu SI-16 is emitted by the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. Based on this, "Tianrong" is indeed a mistake for "Tianchu".) One point at each shoulder joint (Bingfeng SI-12 on both sides, eighteen points.) One point three cun below each shoulder joint (Tianzong SI-11, Naoshu SI-14, and Jianzhen SI-9 on both sides, totaling six points, and twenty-four points overall. Pingsha: The *Suwen* lacks the character "zhe" (those). Wang Bing's commentary has Tianzong SI-11 but lacks Naoshu SI-14 and Jianzhen SI-9.) Six points from the elbow down to the base of the little finger of the hand (Six points, twelve on both sides, totaling thirty-six points. Pingsha: The *Suwen* lacks the character "yu" (to).)

The points where the Qi of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian emerges number twenty-two points: One point at the outer edge of the nasal cavity and one point on the neck (Yingxiang LI-20 and Tianchu SI-16, four points on both sides. Tianchu SI-16 is close to the Large Intestine Luo-connecting vessel, thus receiving its Qi. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "bi xue" (nasal cavity) is written as "bi kong" (nasal empty space). "Ge you yi" (each has one) is written as "ge you er" (each has two). The *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary has Futu LI-18 but lacks Tianchu SI-16.) One point in the bone cavity of Daying ST-4 (Daying ST-4 on both sides, six points.) One point at the intersection of the cervical vertebrae (Cervical vertebrae on both sides, eight points. Ascending from the intersection of the cervical vertebrae, descending into the Quepen area, passing these two points, thus receiving its Qi. Pingsha: In the annotation, the two cervical vertebrae points in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary are written as Tianding LI-16.) One point at the intersection of the Yu valley (Jianyu LI-15, ten points. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "Yu" is written as "Gao".) Six points from the elbow down to the base of the index finger of the hand (Six points below the elbow, twelve on both sides, totaling twenty-two points. Pingsha: The *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary includes Sanli LI-10 but omits Quchi LI-11. The *Xinzhengjiao* has already identified this as an error.)

The points where the Qi of the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian emerges number thirty-three points: One point below each nasal bone (Quanliao SI-18, two points. Pingsha: Thirty-three in the *Suwen* is written as thirty-two. In the annotation, Quanliao SI-18 is written as Quanliao.) One point at the root of each eyebrow (Sizhukong SJ-23 on both sides, four points. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "Meiben" (eyebrow root) is written as "Meihou" (behind the eyebrow).) One point at each upper corner (Hanyan GB-7 on both sides, six points. Pingsha: In the annotation, Hanyan GB-7 in Yuan Ke's edition is mistakenly printed as Lingyan. In the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary, it is written as Xuanli GB-6.) One point behind each lower complete bone (Tianrong SI-17 on both sides, eight points. Pingsha: In the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary, Tianrong SI-17 is written as Tianyou TE-16.) One point in the middle of the neck, anterior to the Foot-Taiyang (Dazhu GV-14 and Dazhu BL-11, one central and two lateral points, totaling eleven points. Pingsha: In the annotation, the three points of Dazhu GV-14 and Dazhu BL-11 in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary are written as Fengchi GB-20.) One point for Futu LI-18 (Futu LI-18 on both sides, thirteen points. Futu LI-18 is close to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian. Pingsha: Above Futu LI-18, the *Suwen* has the character "xia" (beside). In the annotation, the two points of Futu LI-18 in Wang Bing's commentary are said to be Tianchu SI-16.) One point for Jianzhen SI-9 (Jianzhen SI-9 on both sides, fifteen points.) One point in each gap three cun below Jianzhen SI-9 (Jianliao TE-14, Huizong TE-3, and Xiaoluo TE-7, six points on both sides, totaling twenty-one points. Jianliao TE-14 and Huizong TE-3 are close to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian. Pingsha: In the annotation, Jianliao TE-14 in the *Suwen* Wang Bing commentary is written as Jianyu LI-15. Xiaoluo TE-7 in Yuan Ke's edition is printed as Xiaoshuo.) Six points from the elbow down to the base of the ring finger of the hand (Six points, twelve on both sides, totaling thirty-three points. Another version says twenty-eight, indicating a numerical discrepancy, suspected to be an error.)

The points where the Qi of the Du Mai (Governor Vessel) emerges number twenty-six points: Three points in the center of the neck (The center of the neck refers to the interior of the neck, not just the midline. Descending internally from the neck: Yinmen CV-23 is one, Tianzhu BL-10 is two, totaling three. Ascending: Fengfu GV-16 is one, Fengchi GB-20 is two, totaling three. Altogether six points. The Du Mai enters Fengchi GB-20, confirming this. Pingsha: Twenty-six in the *Suwen* is written as twenty-eight. "Center three" is written as "center two", followed by eight characters: "Eight behind the hairline, three in the center of the face.") One point in each of the twenty intervals from Dazhu GV-14 down to the coccyx; there are twenty-one segments below the tail, following the spinal method (Di, pronounced zhu shi fan, refers to the lowest bone of the tail in this text. From Dazhu GV-14 to the di, there are twenty-one segments and twenty intervals, with one point in each interval, totaling twenty-six points. The *Mingtang Jing* states from Duiduan CV-26 up to the neck, down to Yinmen CV-23, there are thirteen points. From Dazhu GV-14 down to Changqiang GV-1 at the di bone, there are twenty-one segments and eleven points, totaling twenty-four points emitted by the Du Mai Qi. This differs from the current text, and the reason is unknown. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, below "down to kao" (coccyx), the six characters "twenty jie jian ge you yi" (one in each of the twenty intervals) are missing, and seven characters "wei ji pang shi wu xue zhi" (tail and sides fifteen points to) are present.)

The points where the Qi of the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) emerges number eighteen points: Two points in the center of the throat (Lianquan CV-23 and Tantu CV-22. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, eighteen is written as twenty-eight. Below "center two", there are seven characters: "One in the center of the bone limit of the chest.") Three cun below Jiuwei CV-15, five cun below the stomach wall, and one point per cun from the stomach wall down to Henggu CV-11 over eight cun, following the abdominal meridian method (From Jiuwei CV-15 down to Henggu CV-11 is one chi six cun, with one point per cun, totaling sixteen points. Adding the previous eighteen points... The *Mingtang Jing* states that the central Ren Mai Qi-emitting points total twenty-six. This text, from Xuanji CV-15 down to Tingzhong CV-17, totals [missing character] points. Although this text emits points from Xuanji CV-15 down to Henggu CV-11, the measurement in cun differs from the *Mingtang Jing*, and the reason is unknown. Pingsha: In the *Suwen*, "wei wan" is written as "wei wan" (stomach upper abdomen), "ba cun" is written as "liu cun" (six cun), and "yi yi" is written as "ban yi" (half one).)

Each of the Five Zang Shu points has five points, totaling fifty points. One point for the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian under the tongue, and one point for the Jueyin Jimai LV-1 in the pubic hair region (The Five Zang Shu points number twenty-five. Discussing both sides together yields fifty. The Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian has one point under the tongue, which also differs from the *Mingtang Jing*. The Jueyin Jimai LV-1 is likely the same bone, hence five points. Pingsha: The *Suwen* lacks the ten characters "Wu Zang zhi shu ge wu fan wu shi xue" (Five Zang Shu points each five, total fifty points). Instead, it has fifty-one characters above "Foot-Shaoyin": "One below the yin separation, one below each eye, one below the lip, one at Yinjiao CV-24. The points emitted by the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) number twenty-two: One per cun from half cun lateral to Jiuwei CV-15 to the umbilicus, one per cun from five fen lateral below the umbilicus to Henggu CV-11, following the abdominal meridian method.")

One point for the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian, one point for the Yin Qiao and one for the Yang Qiao, and the points emitted by the fishy areas of the hands and feet, totaling three hundred and sixty-five points (Two points for the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian on both sides. Zhao Hai KI-6 is generated by the Yin Qiao, and Shen Mai BL-6 originates from the Yang Qiao, totaling four points on both sides. The fishy areas of the hands and feet, along with Taibai SP-3 of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian, total ten points. The twenty-six meridians total three hundred and eighty-four points. When this text says three hundred and sixty-five points, it uses a round number; being slightly over or under is not incorrect. The three hundred and eighty-four points represent the meaning of points emitted by all meridians. If referring to the *Mingtang Jing*, the points taken are incomplete, and some are double-counted, hence this figure.)
