The Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian. The spleen belongs to the Central Earth (Zhongzhou). There are twenty-one acupoints, starting with Yinbai (SP1) and wandering along its course. Proceed to Dabu (SP2), gaze at Taibai (SP3). Visit Gongsun (SP4), arrive at Shangqiu (SP5). Cross Sanjiaoin (SP6), where Lougu (SP7) and Diji (SP8) can be connected. Step into Yinlingquan (SP9), while Xuehai (SP10) and Jimen (SP11) are sought. Enter Chongmen (SP12), Fushé (SP13) opens up. Untie Fujie (SP14), Daheng (SP15) wanders freely. Fu'ai (SP16) and Shidou (SP17) connect with Tianxi (BL22) sharing the same source. Xiongxiang (ST21) and Zhourong (ST22) link to Dabao (SP21) like a hook.
Starting from the medial side of the great toe is Yinbai (SP1). Seek Dabu (SP2) in the depression behind the joint. Taibai (SP3) is below the medial malleolus bone. One cun posterior to the joint is called Gongsun (SP4). Shangqiu (SP5) is encountered in the depression medial to the medial malleolus. Three cun above the medial malleolus is Sanjiaoin (SP6). Six cun above the medial malleolus is Lougu (SP7). Five cun above the medial malleolus faces Diji (SP8). Medial to the lower knee is Yinlingquan (SP9). Xuehai (SP10) is on the medial aspect, superior to the patella. Jimen (SP11) is located in the fish-belly muscle area; the arterial pulse is felt through the tendons. Chongmen (SP12) is 0.5 cun below Qimen (LR14). (Note: Qimen is an Liver Meridian point; 4.5 cun lateral to Juque, which is a Conception Vessel point, located 6.5 cun above the umbilicus.) Fushé (SP13) is determined 9 cun below Qimen. Fujie (SP14) is 6.8 cun below Qimen. Daheng (SP15) is 5.5 cun below Qimen. Fu'ai (SP16) is 2 cun below Qimen. Qimen (LR14) reveals the Liver Meridian pathway. 4.5 cun lateral to Juque connects to the Spleen meridian points; do not act randomly. Above this lies Shidou (SP17). Tianxi (BL22), Xiongxiang (ST21), and Zhourong (ST22) run through. The distance between them is about 1.6 cun. Moving up another 1.6 cun changes to Zhongfu (LU1). (Lung Meridian point). Dabao (SP21) is 6 cun under the axilla. Yuanli (GB22) is 3.5 cun under the axilla. (Totaling forty-two points on both sides).
The Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian originates in the heart. It emerges and attaches to the Heart System (Xinxi). It descends through the diaphragm and connects with the Small Intestine. Its branch rises from the Heart System, flanking the pharynx, and connects with the Eye System. Its main trunk returns from the Heart System, goes up to the lung, and exits below the axilla. It follows the posterior medial border of the upper arm, running posterior to the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian. It descends into the elbow, follows the posterior medial border of the forearm, reaches the end of the styloid process of the ulna (Rui Gu), enters the posterior medial palm, follows the medial side of the little finger, and exits at its tip. If there is pathological change, symptoms include dryness of the throat, heart pain, thirst with desire to drink. This is called Arm Jue (Bi-Zhi). Diseases governed by the Heart include yellow eyes, hypochondriac pain, pain along the posterior medial border of the arm, Jue syndrome, and heat/pain in the palm. For these conditions: excess is drained, deficiency is tonified, heat is treated with rapid needling, cold is treated with retained needles, sinking yang is treated with moxibustion, and neither excess nor deficiency is treated by selecting points from the meridian itself. In severe cases, the Cun Kou pulse is twice as large as the Ying Chang pulse. In deficiency cases, it is smaller than the Ying Chang pulse.
There are two Heart Systems. One connects with the lung and enters the space between the large lobes of the lung. The other descends from the lung lobes, curves backward along the interior of the spine, connected by fine collaterals, penetrating the spinal cord, and connecting with the kidney, precisely at the seventh vertebral segment. Generally, the systems of the five zang organs all connect to the heart, and the heart connects to the systems of the five zang organs. The Hand-Shaoyin Meridian originates in the heart, runs outside the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel), attaches to the Heart System, descends through the diaphragm, and connects with the small intestine at the level of 2 cun above the umbilicus. Its branch emerges from the Heart System outside the Ren Mai, ascends, flanks the pharynx, and connects with the eye system. Its main trunk returns from the Heart System, goes straight up to the lung region, emerges, follows the axilla to reach Ji Quan (HT1). (The point is located in the artery between the tendons in the axilla, entering the chest). From Ji Quan, it descends along the posterior medial border of the upper arm, running posterior to the two tendons of the Hand-Taiyin Lung and Hand-Jueyin Pericardium meridians. It passes through Qing Ling (HT12), descends to the medial elbow to reach Shao Hai (HT3). The wrist ankle is called Rui Gu. From Shao Hai, it descends along the posterior medial border of the forearm, passing through Ling Dao (HT4) and Tong Li (HT5), reaching the end of the styloid process of the ulna. It passes through Yin Xi (HT6) and Shen Men (HT7), enters the medial palm, reaches Shao Fu (HT8), follows the tip of the little finger to Shao Chong (HT9) to terminate, thereby connecting with the Hand-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Above Shaoyin, Minister Fire (Jun Huo) governs. Thus, pathological changes cause dryness of the throat, heart pain, thirst with desire to drink, indicating an abundance of Shaoyin Qi. Diseases governed by the Heart include yellow eyes. The Heart System connects to the eye superiorly; abundance of Heart Fire causes yellowness. The arm and palm are parts traversed by the Heart Meridian. These are diseases generated by the Heart that extend externally to the meridians.
