When preparing moxa cones, the base and root must be at least three *fen* (approx. 1 cm) thick. If less than three *fen*, it may fail to adequately cover the acupoint, preventing the fire qi from circulating within the meridians of the point, thereby failing to draw out pathogenic factors.
On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, before sunrise, one should use their mind's eye to seek moxa segments resembling human forms; immediately using them for moxibustion yields remarkable efficacy. I recall seeing this mentioned in a certain book, though I have forgotten which one. In truth, moxa does not truly resemble humans. If one forces a resemblance based on imagination amidst ambiguity, all such methods are delusional, with none being true. What doubt remains?
The Yellow Emperor said: Using wood from pine, cypress, persimmon, mulberry, jujube, elm, willow, or bamboo as fuel for moxibustion will inevitably damage the muscles and blood; they must strictly be avoided. When obtaining fire, it is appropriate to strike flint to create sparks, or... [text ends]
Wind, cold, and dampness, when mixed and invading together, combine to form Bi syndrome (obstruction syndrome). This arises because the body is deficient and the interstices (*couli*) are loose, allowing wind, cold, and dampness to invade and cause Bi. In Bi disease, an excess of cold leads to pain; an excess of wind leads to wandering pain; an excess of dampness leads to fixed pain. If located in the bones, the limbs feel heavy and difficult to lift; if in the vessels, blood coagulates and fails to flow; if in the sinews, flexion occurs but extension is impossible; if in the flesh, there is numbness and insensitivity; if in the spleen, cold causes stiffness/tightness while heat causes flaccidity. These manifestations arise according to the specific pathogenic factor received. Generally speaking, Bi diseases can be summarized into five types: Jin Bi (Sinew Bi), Mai Bi (Vessel Bi), Pi Bi (Skin Bi), Gu Bi (Bone Bi), and Ji Bi (Muscle Bi).
Jin Bi corresponds to the Liver. Its symptoms include startle during sleep, increased appetite, and frequent urination. Mai Bi corresponds to the Heart. Its symptoms include stagnant blood flow, sallow complexion, palpitations or a sensation of Qi beating below the heart, sudden dyspnea and obstruction, dry throat, and frequent belching. Ji Bi corresponds to the Spleen. Its symptoms include flaccidity and lassitude of the four limbs, accompanied by coughing and vomiting. Pi Bi corresponds to the Lung. Its symptoms include loss of sensation in the skin, and Qi rushing upward causing wheezing and chest fullness. Gu Bi corresponds to the Kidney. Its symptoms include heaviness of the bones making them difficult to lift, paralysis or lack of coordination, along with pain and distension.
Palpation reveals that a large and choppy pulse indicates Bi; a rapid pulse also indicates Bi; a choppy and tight pulse also indicates Bi. There is also Feng Xue Bi (Wind-Blood Bi), caused by Yin pathogens entering the Blood meridians. Additionally, Zhi Yin (branching fluid retention) can also cause Bi-like symptoms; treatment should be administered according to the specific pattern.
