To treat extreme excess heat in the interior of the Yangming channel (Yangming Channel Disease), characterized by mental restlessness, thirst, heat constraint, and retained fluid that fails to dissipate; it is used to treat jaundice caused by the struggle between dampness and heat, manifesting as sweating only on the head, no sweating on the body, difficult urination, desire for fluids, and inevitable yellowing of the body. It is appropriate to use Yinchen Tang (Artemisiae Scopariae Decoction) combined with Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) to promote urination and defecation.
Yinchen (Herba Artemisiae Scopariae, stems removed, half tael) Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, two qian and a half) Dazhizi (Fructus Gardeniae, five pieces)
Combine these as one dose, add two zhong of water, decoct until one zhong remains. Take at any time, stopping when bowel movement becomes unobstructed.
To treat Shanghan (Cold Damage) where failure to purge earlier has allowed heat toxin to remain in the stomach, causing macules (erythematous spots), and in severe cases, irritability and delirious speech.
Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae) Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, honey-fried, three qian each)

In Taiyang disease (Taiyang Channel Disease) persisting for six or seven days, if exterior symptoms remain, the pulse is faint and deep, yet there is no Jie Xiong (Chest Binding syndrome), and the patient exhibits mania, this indicates heat in the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner). The lower abdomen is hard and full. If urination is normal but accompanied by mania, and stools are black, this signifies blood stasis. One should purge the blood stasis; this formula is appropriate.
Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, washed with wine, one liang) Shuizhi (Hirudo, ten pieces, stir-fried, internal organs removed, crushed, stir-fried with calcined iron ore powder until purple-yellow, ash discarded, only the herb is used)
