Many people are able to treat patients, but few can enable everyone to treat others. This is because using medical skills to treat individuals is limited, whereas using medical knowledge to educate others is infinite. Shi Guitang authored *Zhinan* (Guide) for observing disease patterns, *Bianyi* (Differentiation of Anomalies) for examining materia medica, and continued the formulas and discussions of *Yijian Fang* (Simple Formulas). His intention was to ensure that everyone becomes aware of these books and formula discussions. He not only wished for self-treatment capability but also desired that no one be unable to treat others. Mediocre practitioners hoard "secret recipes" or "family-preserved formulas," displaying petty wisdom and selfishness by reluctantly sharing them with others. The breadth or narrowness of their minds is thus revealed.
